They are not "average grunts" by any extent of that phrase whatsoever and are extremely disciplined and very very highly trained.
At minute 2:58 you can see the platform without snow. Then when the soldiers open the door and look at the platform, minute 3:24 it is full of snow again.

"they will have to beat the physics of it." was said. Physics of a projectile. I am unsure how much more people could do if they get the tech again.
That scene always seemed a bit thin for me. Firstly, do we really expect a US Embassy to have a malfunctioning fire escape? Secondly, he wouid have left obvious boot prints in the snow on that platform.
Agreed on the fire escape but the boot prints would be easy to miss. The soldier who walked through the door stepped onto the platform before looking down. He would have disturbed the prints with his own boots
Agreed; a group of soldiers who misses both footprints, the red bag on the ground and a person just underneath..?!! But then again, "this is JB!!" (Also; not a single person outside the building as this happened inside??? 😂
No, The fire escape was behind a locked door of an elevator shaft, you would not put a fire escape there as the fire can easily spread in elevator shaft to other floors. Probably the lift shaft replaced a stair case as its an older building and in that scenario the fire escape would’ve removed as a security precaution as well the fact it was redundant. The foot prints, tracking prey is only as good as the tracker is, so if they are not very observant or good at the job then that can easily be missed.
They didn't. They retreated (JB had a gun, they didn't, and he didn't fire meaning he wasn't going to shoot as long as they backed away), then called a lockdown and re-armed, then proceed to search for him methodically. Tactically, they did what would be the smart thing as opposed to moving forward and dying and helping out the situation exactly zero. In the director's comments I believe they had consultants who said in this situation that's exactly what they would have been trained to do.
Before you feel sorry for all those guards, just remember that they read about the My Lai massacre in school and thought "Yeah, that's the kind of organization I wanna sign up for."

Robert Ludlum wrote many bestsellers, but the Jason Bourne series is the most famous.

How come we didn't have a Marine detail acting like this in 1979 in Tehran??
Because the Marines in 1979 were told not to use deadly force, so they ended up being blindfolded and paraded around by a bunch of college kids.
