I like that the show played with Kuzco's movie personality just enough to keep him likeable for several episodes without losing what was undeniably 'Kuzco' about him.
Yea i feel like because he no longer has money or power here the show brings out his chiller, goofier, and kinda pathetic side that makes him more likeable in a way. Like I feel the movie kuzco and this kuzco r the same but it's a different vibe. Like you can actually tell he's a teenage boy in the show
likewise there's a theory that Kuzco still plays up his jerk persona a tad. Just because he's nice now he's still the emperor, he can't let people walk all over him
Lol you make it like that means he lost or something! I wouldn't be bullying the guy that's going to graduate and reclaim his throne. @@tiahnarodriguez3809
Kuzco can be selfobsorb all he wants but he does genuinely love and care for Malina and wants only her and wants her to be his empress so shows he'll be loyal to only one woman
I like the times when her and Kuzco, especially Kuzco, break the 4th wall pinning on what's happenin' in the focus of scenes, and what their opinions of others are. If there are bits of Kuzco making fun of Yzma, then that would be hilarious 😁 It's been a long time since I've watched this show and the movie that came with it. I just want to watch it one last time to see what I remembered of it.
They never planned on continuing it after Yzma’s voice actress died. They weren’t replacing her, and a new story set in Kuzco’s world with no Yzma just wouldn’t have been the same.
When you think about it, I think this explains why he never chose a bride when he actually became emperor. After Malina went wherever she went off to after the series ended, what other girl could compare?
The TV show takes place after the first movie. All of the characters make references to the movie many times. Plus in the TV show Kuzco is living with Pacha & his family.
I almost forgot about them. They really are criminally underrated. So much attention on Disney Princesses not enough for princes like Kuzco. And Malina is the princess to the rescue to keep him in check.
I really love the progression of their relation ship. Starting as just an friend keeping Kuzco’s narcism in check, annoyed by him repeatedly hitting on her in the beginning and later developing and accepting she does have feelings for him.
This is literally all I want. Seriously. Long story short. I just want my healthy supportive loving mutual respectful brown on brown. Native on Native, Mayan on Mayan forever till death do us part relationship.
Nah. They in deep with each other. Malina likes the more compassionate side of Kuzco of why she keeps his distance Everytime he acts like the world revolves around him.
Fr. Kuzco was written to be a gay man in a time when Disney wouldn’t let gay people in their movies and then they gave him a girlfriend in this crappy TV show? Ew.
@@josephmartin9737 He had absolutely no interest in women (which, tbf, could mean he’s aroace and not gay). Very much enjoyed being in drag and playing the part of a woman and pretending to be Pacha’s wife. He was flamboyant and talked and had mannerisms more commonly seen in gay and queer men. You can call these stereotypes, which they are, but back then stereotypes were often used as a way to put queer characters into movies and shows without getting into trouble with homophobic networks and audiences. Disney had almost no hand in the making of The Emperor’s New Groove. They hadn’t even officially read the script until after the film was in theaters because they just didn’t care about this movie. So when they movie suddenly did well and they decided to make a show years later where they actually had a hand in it, but none of the original writers, they gave Kuzco a girlfriend? Gross. Just the same old story of the Big Mouse trying to bury queer characters. Gay characters being openly queer in Disney is only a more recent thing now it’s more socially acceptable and profitable to be pro-LGBTQ.
@@percyross7612 A lack of interest was him being stuck up and having unknown impossible standards for people at the start (he says “is this really the best you can find” and insults their looks, specifically making comments that imply he’s just thinks he deserves perfection, in line with the rest of his beginning ego), and him dressing up and being flamboyant and having bad mannerisms were also generally tied to his ego. He stayed flamboyant in the same way he kept some jokey egotistical mannerisms, but at that point to say someone being confident and loud when they rule their known world makes them queer coded is a stretch. I just dont see the connection, and the idea that them giving him a girlfriend in the tv show to “bury” gay characters seems like even more of a stretch. While I don’t disagree with Disney being super against making outwardly gay characters, the writers making a girlfriend for the main character to add an extra element to the tv show seems more likely than it being a kind of master plan to get rid of the notion he was gay when nothing directly implied that in the first place.

Just a reminder that kuzco was rejecting alot of women at the start of the movie, so his feelings here are actually quite genuine.

The most wholesome and healthier ship in Disney.
