One of the easiest and best things to do is to insulate, insulate, insulate. Attic insulation is the most important but all of it whenever possible should be done. I’ve reached statistics to say the average home has enough leaks in it allowing cold air to equal the opening of one window to the outdoors. If you have a fireplace, wood stove or pellet stove, they should have an outside air source for combustion. The three things needed to burn wood/pellets are fuel, air, heat. If you were running a fireplace or wood stove for example you’re taking air from inside the house that has already been heated and paid for and sending it up to chimney and the same amount of cold air is making its way into your house to replace the air that aided combustion and went up the chimney.

Changing the furnace filter once a month is absurd, not to mention a very expensive waste of money. Every 6 months is fine
