    Much love for the Fab Five, proud to have lived during that time and really experienced how impactful that team was from a cultural and media frenzy standpoint. There will NEVER be another Fab Five.

    They literally shifted college basketball on so many ways. I was in high school around this time. I'm still a UM fan till this day.

    The Banners should go up as they were earned. The University is for the students as they make an impact on Society. The Fab five did all of those things

    When ppl say they underachieved, theycant forget that their best player was there( Webber) for 2 years. When you compare them to UNLV, remember UNLV was MUCH older. Larry Johnson arrived at UNLV at 20. Webber" left" Michigan at 20. If those guys were there 4 years, ppl would have forgot about UNLV.

    Watching this, Its still Evident after all these years, Ray Jackson is still bitter about being the "Forgotten Member" of the Fab 5. The only one who wasn't a McD's AA, The Last One to Start as a freshman, the Only one not to Be Drafted in the NBA and the Only one to never play in the NBA. To hear him say he wished he "Would have gotten a Bag" and say if he would do it all over again, he would do a year of International Ball and then go to the League, Shows he still dosent get it. He wasnt talented enough. It simply was not in the Cards for him, and not going to Michigan was mot going to change that. He has a pretty good life, Has a Degree and Access to one of the best Networks in the Country at Michigan, has Relationships with Teammates who are Sports Broadcasters (Webber and Rose) Coaching (Juwan Howard) and General Managers (Rob Pelinka) and is part of a College Basketball Legacy that Helped Transcend The Sport even after Their Records And Final Four Banners were Vacated. Whatever bitterness he still has he needs to let it go

    • @WUDAT
      @WUDAT 2 роки тому

      I don't think Ray is bitter. He appreciates what he has been through, sure he is disappointed he didn't get to live his dream. But he has built a successful life away from basketball.

    The Fab Five has been unfairly criticized, excessively derided, and subjected to disgusting hatred over the years.
    Webber shouldn't have taken all that money, since it put his school and teammates in danger. But it's incumbent upon human beings to have some modicum of respect for others. I am horrified by the cruel and childish comments that now dominate discussions of every facet of sports. People need to carry themselves with more dignity.

    This team was fun and one of my all-time favorites but not one of the best ever. They won nothing. The reality is for all the swag and stuff they attribute to the Fab 5. The Fab 5 with actually just filling the void left by the Running Rebels marketed by Nike generating increased popularity

    Hmmm ... # of Big Ten titles won - zero (0); # of Big Ten tournament championships won - zero (0); # of NCAA tournament championships - zero (0), not even a measly NIT title. Alot of flap, smack, strutz, ink, noise, et al. And nothing to show for it. And Weber won't even come near it or have anything to do with it. Probably wishes he'd played somewhere else ... that's part of this story, too, whether anyone cares to admit it. This is just the arrogance and presumptive attitude of a self-satisfied institution. One can tell the state of current undergraduate education when they begin to intellectualuze everything. This is nothing but bald faced celebrity worship. 😮

    Whatever their legacy is culturally or stylistically can be discussed by those who care about stuff like that but regarding competitive greatness their legacy is they never won anything.

    • @Jon.A.Scholt

      I think you miss the point. An all freshman squad getting to the final and then coming a possession away from a title as Sophomores the next year was completely unprecedented. Successful teams then were senior and junior laden, not like today's one and done. By your definition success is defined solely by national titles, and I think that is an extremely narrow view. And tell me this, which team does the nation remember more; the 1994 Arkansas National title team or the Fab Five. Could you name even one starter without looking on the internet?

    • @ivandesantis858
      @ivandesantis858 3 роки тому

      @@Jon.A.Scholt I didn't miss a damn thing. I guess if you want to count cultural impact and you consider baggy shorts black socks and shaved heads some earth shaking accomplishment in fashion knock yourself out but like Bobby Knight said "fab means you won something" and they didn't and that Arkansas team is on the list of Champions which the Fraud 5 are not and never will be ! They had a lot of attitude and they were very arrogant and when you choose to carry it like that you better close the deal and they didn't get it done. Sorry that fact troubles you but it's about winning! Competitive sports will always be about winning and they got their asses kicked and never beat Duke in all their meetings and choked like dogs against the Tar Heels. Don't give me no BS excuses they didn't get it done . PERIOD

    • @Jon.A.Scholt
      @Jon.A.Scholt 3 роки тому

      @@ivandesantis858 Damn dude, you really hate them! What did they do, kick your dog in the nuts? (Sorry, it's crude but I couldn't resist) I was simply trying to make the point that "success" is more nuanced than the simple binary notion "Win the national championship, if not...... ". I think that is far too narrow. By your definition no banners should be hung for Final Four appearances, runners up, conference titles etc. If whichever school you root for makes the Final Four this year will you call the season a failure? Furthermore, say a team goes winless one year and then is the NCAA runner up the next year, is that team's season unsuccessful because it didn't win the national title? Successful seasons that end in the Final Four are what make prospects interested in joining one team over another. For example, people have considered Tom Izzo a successful coach the past 20 years, though he hasn't won a national title in 21 years. By your standard Izzo is 0/20 when it comes to successful seasons. Coach K is only 2/20 over the same period so he's almost as "unsuccessful" as Izzo.
      And the "cultural" impact or "popularity" or whatever we want to call their "off the court legacy" is not entirely intangible. Juwan Howard's status as a Fab Five player likely impacts the chance of Michigan landing highly touted recruits. So I think a case could be made that their "legacy" influences their success via recruiting.
      You also mentioned that the Fab Five never beat Duke "in all their meetings". The wording of "in all their meetings" makes it sound like they played each other several times over 3 or 4 years. In fact they played twice over the two years the Fab Five was fully together, and yes, lost both times. But I think it's a bit hyperbolic and perhaps a touch disingenuous to use the phrase "in all their meetings".
      But anyway, you seem to have quite the animosity against that team (and me for some reason) which is fine. Nonetheless I'm enjoyjng this têt-à-têt with you. One of the great things about sports are the discussions fans have over rather obscure topics, this one included. Cheers!

      @@Jon.A.Scholt I don't hate anybody . I just don't praise or worship mediocrity. Rejoicing over Final Four appearances is for the little sisters of the poor. When you're "The Fab Five" that's not good enough !! They were 1 and 3 vs Bobby Knight's Hoosiers who didn't have half of the talent that Michigan had in those 2 years when they were fully intact and Knight knew they were a bunch of no heart chumps and he was right. And unlike the Fraud Five Izzo has the one title . And newsflash when you have to talk "nuance" it usually means you didn't win anything ! You can invent all the BS apologist excuses you wish if that keeps you warm at night but when the great winning teams of Men's Division 1 NCAA basketball are talked about the Fraud Five will never be mentioned. PERIOD
