Hope there is a follow up to this trying out using battery acid, wire wool, a claw hammer, band sander and fireworks all for more stubborn marks.

Good idea to unplug the TV first before touching the screen to clean it.
Also, give the remote a wipe with a disinfecting wipe (wring it out first so it's not too wet).

I never use any type of cleaner on my screen it’s not needed. I use a slightly moist hood microfibre cloth - then use a dry microfibre cloth to finish. The point about using a soft cloth is also important.

We use a product called mystify who make a cloth and spray which is excellent after I used a micro fibre cloth and managed to put tiny scratches in a screen. Clean 7 Mac screens in our office and all our TV’s with it and wouldn’t change now.

    I don't have a tv, but a flat monitor.
I use a small amount of water and a smooth, slick microfibre cloth made for glass surfaces. Works decently.

I dust my tv first then I use Method glass cleaner, sparingingly, and buff with microfibre cloth. Occasionally, I use the soft brush vacuum attachment to clean back of tv.

The danger with using any kind of solvent on a screen is longer term than this video acknowledges. Even if you're wiping it off some amount of residue will remain (visible or not), and that can break the plastic down on a molecular level over time, causing it to become brittle and start cracking. I remember having issues with this working in aerospace years ago. A 15 minute video won't tell you whether or not it's a horrible idea.
Also, if anyone knows how to clean crayon off a tv please let me know.

Last time I used household cleaning wipes (the wet ones with product). Not happy about it, it left lots of residue behind, but the TVs are too big and I am too tired to apply something else to clean it. Next time... 😉

Great video, do you have some specific recommendations for an iPad screen or is it the same as what you advised? Soft cloth and use some common sense?
BTW, used WD40 to grease my foldable car mirrors this sunny afternoon (we have a bank holiday over here) never ever would think to spray it onto the TV 😂

    • @lords-electrical
      @lords-electrical  2 роки тому +2

the best way will be to let the screen cool down and try and use a dedicated screen cleaner. don't be tempted by anything abrasive as it will damage the screen

I currently have a Panasonic LED LCD HD Flat-screen Television.
I only use an Addis dirt attract Handi Duster for the screen itself and to dust the remainder of the unit. (The area of South Africa, where I reside, is prone to dust and dust storms).
I then use a slightly damp microfibre/microfiber cloth to wipe around the bezel less screen and the entire back only. NOT any area of the screen surface whatsoever.
I had a Sony LCD "HD Ready" Flat-screen Television before which I performed the same procedure.
So in short and ideally, no liquid of any kind, should come into contact with any screen surfaces of televisions, laptops and so on... Just a word of caution and opinion, really.
Yes, my Panasonic has what appears to be a thin layer of glass right across, however liquid ingress is a possibility. So, be careful !
Remember that these screens, are not like the Cathode Ray Tubes we were all used to, back in the day. (These were manufactured out of a much thicker glass and easier to clean).

    • @lords-electrical

I would leave it turned off so the screen doesn't get warm at all but then get a dedicated screen cleaner. Hopefully the disinfectant wipe won't have damaged the screen though.
