    I am impressed that you found old footage of the resort. It really enriched the explore . The video is beautifully done but sad too. The owner did the right thing in repurposing the resort but tragic that safety code violations led to a fire and no insurance payments . I guess because of safety reasons people weren't allowed to retrieve their belongings... that is too bad .Hope no one was killed in the fire. Thank you for sharing this awesome find.

    I lived there for 3 years after I sold my business. sold our unit and moved to florida. it was a wonderful place with very friendly people. it was a shame it burned a lot of people were put out on the street because Grandview held a lot of people. jerry lewis and dean martin played there. Thank you for making this it brought back a lot of memories

    As a young teen I was able to explore a local hotel that was abandoned. I went all by myself. I didnt destroy or steal. Such an experience. Looking back, 50 years later, I feel clean that I caused no damage and didnt take anything. I knew someone would come along and do all that. But I wasnt going to.

      Just a few comments: It appears as though the paint on the doors,door casings,walls,etc., had begun peeling off from heat from the fire!?? It must have been terrifying to grab what they could and get the heck out as quickly as possible! I'm guessing it was *illegal* to go back inside to try to get more of their possessions if the fire marshal deemed it "too dangerous"...? Aren't you (or anyone,else,really) just a little interested in who that "expensively furnished" condo belonged to? I am..lol. Surely there must have been at least one *Hollywood star* or wealthy musician who stayed or vacationed there!? ^_^ :-D

    I agree with you totally about vandalism, and it makes me sick to see what some people do to property that doesn't belong to them. I have never been able to understand why. Some of the suites that you showed were even now beautiful and the furnishings really impressive. I feel so bad for the people who were effected by this tragedy. It is so truly sad.

      Homeowners/Renters insurance probably replaced most of it,thus making it the property of whomever owns the lot now. That might even be the company that paid out on the insurance to the individual people in each unit.

    • @HarleyBadger
      @HarleyBadger 6 років тому +5

      This is the danger of a Condo Board. The residents owned their each individual units, but the property and structures themselves were owned by a Condo Board. For those of you not familiar with how that works, it's sort of like "buying" a space inside a shopping mall. The residents were not allowed to retrieve their belongings, or even receive an insurance payout, as of a couple years ago anyhow. The property was insured, but immediately after the fire, the insurance company sued the Condo Board, because ironically, there had been fire code violations ("supposedly" fixed just a month prior to the fire,) and the Board covered it up and hid that information from the insurer. This led to a situation of insurance fraud. Due to the lawsuit, the Court forbid anyone from going back onto the property to retrieve their belongings, even though none of this was their fault. Their only course of action was to sue the Condo Board, who are just in reality a handful of people. Last I heard, nobody ever retrieved their property OR got paid for the damages.

    A mixture of sadness as to all of those possessions that people just had to leave and there is something spooky that makes you feel that someone could just walk across one of those rooms at any moment. Oh, at 19 mins 26 seconds - that broken doll on the bed is disturbing on many levels.

    JPVIDEOS are THE best! I’ve been fascinated with abandoned buildings since I was a kid, wondering what stories the walls could tell if they could speak. I haven’t seen this video yet, but if you like this one, you’ll love JP’s NEVELE Resort documentaries, also with footage in its grandeur. Classy, eerie, in awe of simpler times, great music....you’re the best! I love your narratives also. And I never want them to end....I don’t think they’re too long. Our son has a home in nearby Boiceville, and we’re familiar with the Ellenville exit on the way from NYC. I’ve got him fascinated with your Catskills videos; we see several abandoned places along 28 between 87 & Margaretville & wonder what their stories are from grander days. Keep up the great work, gentlemen. Your videos are my fix for relaxation, nostalgia and warm fuzzies, tho as many have said, ‘why did they leave everything????’ Blessings to you for sharing this history.

    Very well done! I have to say this has to be the video I have enjoyed most that you have filmed. You supplied the past and present on this one and drone footage at the end ( which i have to say was great as you can see how large the property was) and it was just a very interesting video. It is very eerie to see the possessions of the past residences left behind but also I reminder that you should enjoy and cherish every moment you have because you just never know when something tragic can happen and you lose everything. As far as some of that furniture goes "HOLY CRAP" that was some beautiful stuff!!!!!!

    I knew it as a "Murphy Bed."
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy_bed
    BTW, when Mike said that was the same I.D. badge, did he mean with the same name on it? Even if it was just another teacher's I.D. it's quite a coincidence.

    Both insurance company refused to pay for damages, that’s sad 😔

    • @majortwit
      @majortwit 5 років тому +4

      Mayylove what’s sad is a condo board that was derelict in its duty to maintain the various fire systems in use. Insurance companies said they were misled about present and working systems. The demo and cleanup costs are well beyond the property’s worth, so owners lost everything.

    • @sandrazahn4916
      @sandrazahn4916 5 років тому +4

      Mayylove code violations are required to be addressed and cleared for insurance companies to pay. It’s sad I know but it cuts down on insurance fraud. As for the condo residence their property is covered in the unit they own from the walls in. Renters should have renters insurance to cover their possessions. Most policies have coverage for temporary relocation cost.
      But no matter what it’s still terribly sad. The children that had to be rushed from their homes without their favorite toy. How would they understand that. Or a person who’s family that lives a long distance away or no longer living, photos are great reminders. Insurance money or the great people at The Red Cross could never replace that.
      I was an insurance underwriter, it was a small company with 23 employees so we did it all. Somedays were so sad half of us would be crying. All insurance companies aren’t bad there are just rules written in the policies that must be followed.
      I hope the residents have found peace and moved on with their lives.
      Great video guys 🙂

      @@majortwit Funny how they didn't claim fraud while collecting premium payments every month. But time for the scum to pay out on the policy and all of a sudden they were "mislead and lied" to. That's something that should've been looked into before issuing coverage.

    JP, I had a thought when you said you were surprised those booths are still there at about the fifteen:thirty time mark. Someone should check those booths for lost cons, as well as under the vehicle seats. They might be surprised. : )
    At 31:28 you referred to a chair, as interesting. I'm thinking the word you were looking for was Opulent.
    If I was a scrapper I would .... do a rough estimate on contents and find out if it's feasible to pay salvage fees, maybe with a partner or so and salvage the heck out of that place legally .... Make some connections for selling, retrieve the best/most valuable items first, get a crew together to help load and move the items in a timely manner. In my mind that would be a responsible way to handle it, for the sake of our earth and perhaps give people a chance to acquire furniture and or other items that they wouldn't otherwise have access to. The Astounding amount of wastefulness in this country is Deplorable. Reselling and recycling is a good way to Reduce the Waste, don't ya think?

      @@JPVideos81 Good on you. I was looking for something "printing through" but you carry well. I used to do this with a friend before the age of cameras with phones built in. We just had flash lights. But we both had ccp's and when first entering, we would yell "we are looking to buy the property and we are armed you can leave now if you like" and as we went through the property, we'd repeat that before entering a new section.
      We once checked out a huge abandoned power plant. The main generators were on the floor and there were balconies with offices and utility rooms for maintenance men and plant staff.
      As we came upon an office, out popped a junkie that was crashing in there. Scared the crap out of me. Dirty mattress on the floor, needles and drug paraphernalia all around. The place was so huge, you could build a three bedroom house on the floor were the dead generators were. I told him we were not police and to keep his self in there until we're done and everything will be all right. He did and that was that. But both of us being prior service, always had each other's backs on a property.
      Several times we'd hear footsteps scrambling out of some pre arranged exit as we entered. Many of these places had devil worship evidence with alters and satanic symbols on the walls. These had me on edge the most, as I had no intention of being sacrificed. I always wondered what went on in those places at night.
      All I can say is, if you go discovering in these abandoned places, be prepared. Anyway, I enjoy your videos.
