filmed in Melbourne, Australia in Feb 1976 (Summer down under).
They filmed two versions "on the street" for a total cost of $250. Hey, renting 3 bag pipe players and a flatbed truck aren't free.
A Whole Lotta Rosie is an interesting song. Based on Bon's encounter with a woman that significantly outweighed him.

Genuinely refreshing content, gentlemen. So, here's the opening to the rabbit hole. The Young brothers, Angus (lead guitar) and Malcolm (rhythm guitar) grew up as a migrant family to Australia, from the UK, with their elder brother George (more to come)
Bon Scott was also a Scottish immigrant to Australia as a little kid.
George Young was in a 1960's band called The Easybeats, who were formed in the Villawood migration accommodation centre, where families from across the world lived upon first arriving in Australia.
    The Young family were Scots.
George met a guy called Harry Vanda at Villawood. The Easybeats included Australian born Stevie Wright
The Easybeats had huge Australian success, as an edgier version of Beatles style pop/rock. They also enjoyed UK success.
George encouraged his younger brothers, Malcolm & Angus, and they formed AC/DC, and as they were developing, met a kindred Scottish Australian, Ronald Bon Scott. Bon had played drums and bagpipes and sung with other bands. And magic was created
But George and Harry Vanda weren't done. They went on to write songs for, and produce, many, many other brilliant Australian music acts. They even wrote a song for Grace Jones
They also recorded some of their material under the name of Flash and The Pan
Vanda & Young changed the face of rock 'n' roll across the world, and the various bands & solo singers they produced for & wrote songs for went on to become hugely influential acts all over the world, in many different genres, from the tough as nails rock of Rose Tattoo and The Angels, to female fronted rock in Divinyls, to disco pop like the huge hit "Love Is In The Air" by John Paul Young

They state themselves that they are Australian in just about every interview. Angus was 8 when they moved here, the band was formed here, they did the hard yards here in pubs and clubs. Mal came home here to die, not Scotland, as this was his home, and he and Bon are both buried in Australian soil. They never lived in Scotland after they left there and consider this to be their home. There is also a statue to Bon in Fremantle, where he was from in Western Australia. And have you heard them speak? They are Aussie boys with Scottish roots but have never been a Scottish band, even according to them. So let it go, it’s looks so desperate trying to claim them when they say the opposite of what you’re saying, themselves 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

and that's why we're so defensive about our musicians, for every famous band that comes out of Australia, there's already 100 others in Scotland, UK, America and so fourth, the Australian entertainment industry is a small one, our international lime light is a small one, so we take who we can get. Australia is immigrant country, i'm sure a large percentage of our famous musicians are born in other countries and moved here, like John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes, both born in Scotland/England but they're our musicians
im personally more then happy to celebrate their Scottish origins but on the other hand, Scotland already has hundreds of years worth of cultural exports that you can pat yourselves on the back with, Australia? not so much, so of course a lot of aussies would be super defensive

AC/DC has not performed the song live since the death of Bon Scott out of respect for Bon. They last performed the song with Bon on December 17, 1979 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. Angus - Malcom and Bon were born in Scotland and moved to Australia as kids - Ironically, after Bon died and they eventually found Brian - who Bon knew, Brian is also Scottish...

"It's a long way to the top (If you wanna rock n' roll)" ... was written in 1975 as AC/DC was on their 2nd album in Australia titled 'T.N.T.' and they had 2 new members - Phil Rudd (drums) and Mark Evans (bass)... in the studio for the first time.
Bon Scott (vocals) was a Scottish immigrant like Angus and Malcolm Young (lead guitar and rhythm guitar) and he went, "You know what this song needs? Bagpipes!"
Angus and Malcolm liked the idea and Bon Scott played bagpipes in the studio... but word has it that Bon had never played bagpipes before that. He did play flute in his previous band Fraternity and played drums.
Bon Scott was a driver in 1974 when he was hired by AC/DC's managers to drive the band from their hotel to the gig... and back. He was reportedly a crazy driver 😂He saw AC/DC perform when Dave Evans was the band's singer and was impressed by Angus Young stomping onstage in his schoolboy outfit... Bon quickly became friends w/ Angus and Malcolm Young and they asked him if he wanted to join AC/DC... He offered to play drums for them and did when their drummer quit the band... In late '74, their singer Dave Evans quit the band just before a gig... and Bon Scott offered to sing that night... Angus and Malcolm were really impressed w/ his high-pitched voice and knew that Bon Scott would be the new singer of AC/DC... Bon's doing drugs and chugging a whole bottle of Bourbon before going onstage did shock the brothers 😂
Soon, the Young brothers introduced Bon Scott to their older brother George Young (who had produced their 1 single in the studio) as the new singer of AC/DC ... George was skeptical; Bon was quite older than the brothers... he was covered in tattoos and missing teeth from brawling... but he was also charming and funny, and he had quite a voice on him... He raised the intensity of AC/DC's music and recorded their first Australian album 'High voltage'... which was released in early 1975.
AC/DC would never have happened without Bon Scott.

@@th.burggraf7814 wow - you know the exact date? I was only 11 that year but thereon after AC/DC were a huge part of the soundtrack of not just my formative years, but my life. I still have the newspaper cuttings about his death in an old yellowing photo album. I remember the devastation when he died. There was nobody on Bon’s level. The day we lost Bon was a dark day for music - & he was the personification of a typical rough neck Australian guy of the 70s. So much personality.

AC/DC hit even harder back then because they came along during the goofy disco era. Let me tell you as a young kid the first time I heard AC/DC it was like an instant addiction to that energy. Now like them Im getting old , just means I can blast Back in Black with more expensive equipment in the car, never gets old.

You guys are a crack up . Loved your reaction . The lyrics are really telling when you listen closely .
About the bagpipes , the common legend was that Bon was bosting about being able to play any instrument. There was a set of bagpipes laying around in the recording studio so someone said Bon I bet you cant play that. So he had a go at it , being Scottish born it must have been in his blood.

  • @kathleenmayhorne3183

Most of the band were born in scotland, grew up in aussie. Bon borrowed the pipes, begged him to teach him how to play, the owner wanted other pipers along to keep an eye on them. That instrument is expensive and comes unassembled. Bon was a lot drunk, made it home, slept in the car had a medical episode with no-one the wiser. R.I.P.

Definitely 70's - still establishing themselves - I was a teenager - we rocked to this song - They did this in the middle of Melbourne - no permit - there is AC/DC Lane in Melbourne central area even though they were from Perth - This band and Cold Chisel were both legendary bands in Australia - loved them both - my personal favorite Cold Chisel - you should react to a cover of 'Wild Thing' live by Cold Chisel - They also have a catalogue of their own original music - Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss both lead singers have great voices.

The song, as with most of early AC/DC, was produced by Harry Vandra and George Young. George is the older brother of Angus and Malcolm. Vandra and Young were a songwriting and producing powerhouse in Australia, producing the likes of The Angels, Rose Tattoo, John Paul Young, and fellow ex Easybeats bandmate, Stevie Wright. Check out any of these wonderful artists, but must do their original band, The Easybeats! Or, their own duo, Flash and the Pan, with Hey, St Peter or And the Band Played On (Down Amongst the Dead Men).
