My beloved husband, Paul before his passing told me that we ought to do this . I agreed . Such beauty one can produce from nature . Sadly , he transitioned before we could get this done . I am happy that you do this artisan work . Truly a beautiful thing . Thank you for sharing it with the world .
Just an awesome burl you got. Made a beautiful bowl, but I think it would have made the worlds coolest sink. That's something I've never thought of. Great work, stay safe 👍
Excellently well done video, no crappy music, no wasted time, and most excellent subject material! Thank you for sharing! Very beautiful bowl! Very well done in all regards! Thank you again!
Great work! Please don't take this the wrong way: if ever there was a piece of wood that demanded a coring system be used on it it's this piece. If you're not familiar with them, they basically remove the core of the bowl in one piece so you can turn another beautiful bowl instead of wasting the core of such an amazing burl by turning it into wood shavings.
+Jessie Garner He's talking about the wood removed inside of the bowl that was turned into shavings. They make coring tools that would have allowed him to make two or three bowls instead of one bowl and a lot of shavings. They're a bit pricey, though with the cost of a beautiful piece of burl like that, might have been a good time to get one. Either way, a very stunning bowl.
Thats some nice work. One of these days im going to clear some stuff out of our barn and see if grandpas old lathe will still work. Thanks for the inspiration.
I haven’t turned a bowl in about 30 years and I still have the last one I turned. Watching this makes me want to buy a lathe and see if I still have the ability. You sir are brilliant and that bowl is absolutely beautiful. Well done 👍. Peace on earth.
WOW! Another beautiful piece using the cherry burl! The grains in the finished product w/the gloss clear coats makes it look like "wooden marble". Again, very impressive marine!!
I thought around 2.06 minutes into the video you changed bowls and then around 4.19 you change again. Beautiful work what ever you did - the epoxy resin gave a fantastic finish and the flaws in the Burl gave it a lot of character. Well done!
Brandon Richmond lucky if it was nine hours. Those who have never made a thing have little appreciation for the level of skill or technique this gentleman exhibited. He is lucky he came out with all ten fingers. A burl of that type can blow apart, I would have hand cut it into pistol grips.
I worked for an aircraft company that does interior/ exterior completions on jet aircraft . They had a customer that had chosen , but didn't like the cherry burl for their interior wood choice . So they mothballed the veneer and solid lumber from 2 cherrywood trees and root burls . The way it usually worked is after one year that wood inventory was DEAD STOCK . like it didn't exist . That allowed us cabinetmakers to get our hand on it for scrap . Weather we had to bid on it ,and buy it dirt cheap or it was given to us . At any rate , after a bit less than 5 years I had over two rental storage buildings, slap full , plus one room at my house full of the real rare stuff . That was back in the mid - late 90's . I'm still using that legal scrap wood to this day , as accent wood in building grandfather , mantel , and wall regulator clocks . Little hobby I began with adding fretwork and carving in the mid 70's- early 80's . In Louisiana I found the rich assholes there did not much understand or want to pay for exotic solid woods and Swiss/ German mechanical movements . They prefered Walmart crap . So I found people through the net smart enough to value and appreciate my work .
First of all, GORGEOUS! You did a fantastic job. Secondly, your video is great. Thank you so much for not adding stupid music and overproducing the entire thing so it just becomes annoying Great work man. You've got a like and follow from me. Keep up the fine job!
Exquisite! Looks like marble. Thank you for explaining that you left it intact. I had wondered how you got it off the lathe. Now I know. Thanks for explaining that light through the crack.
I know it's a bit late from the date of this video, but I have a curious question. Why did you use an epoxy resin instead of polyurethane? Yes the gloss in this case is similar, but the epoxy makes it look like it's plastic. Good colors, but I think a satin gloss poly would of been nicer. Just my opinion :)
He used epoxy because the wood has holes in it and he's considering selling it as a sink/bowl so the plastic look is better. Especially since it could be in contact with water on a daily basis.
That's woodworking. My father was a Wood Shop teacher and explained the amount of waste in woodworking is very high. He taught me how to save as much of the wood as possible when I build my kitchen cabinets and hutch. But turning wood is different. Not much that the turner can do. Maybe cut the burl into small pieces for pen making.
Hey really, how'd they come? Did the video editing end up pitch-shifting uncut audio, clipping out over 2kHz or what? If I heard my work played back 17:1 like that it would produce some weird motivation, eh? Oh no I'm back-masking Mormon Gospel into my work, whoa!
blondewoman1 because to carve the inside if the book he had to turn out around and fixed the back of the bowl to the machine with a different standby that doesn't need screws
Check out nz woodturning. He shows how to use a tenon in the jaws of the chuck. Same technique he’s using here. The screws were on used with the plate on the face where the bowl would be hollowed out.

That would hold a lot of cereal and that makes me happy.. Good job
+Kaitie Hardy haha you are like me, cereal are my favorite food lol
That would probably be one very expensive cereal bowl :) though very nice
You're my favorite haha
@Eagle1 you must be fun at parties
I think this is a decoration piece. Not for use at dinning table
Beautiful piece of workmanship.

SG Art Turning can you share info about your epoxy, please? It's so shiny and clear.

That is really nice!!
The grain in the wood is stunning, and such a pretty finish, good job 🙂
Absolutely stunning, I've always had and HAVE respect for woodcrafters .Beautiful piece.
That is the Most Beautiful Work of Art I have ever seen, AWESOME JOB BRO!!!
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of wood I’ve ever seen
Nice wood 😏
To the point video, no slowmotion, no rubbish. Great 👏👏
If this was a try not to get satisfied challenge I failed miserably....
And I'm ok with that
Absolutely stunning, Excellent work my friend ♥️

The screaming souls from the depths of hell.
Right!?
@T Tauri I thought the same thing and thought that these sounds could be in a horror film.
Wow. Just.
Wow. Wish I could score some of the awesome wood you find. Very nice work and great epoxy work.
+Brett Niland Thank you sir
A stunning job, I don’t think I’d ever be brave enough to take on a huge piece of knotted timber spinning around at that speed!! Very talented.
I thought around 2.06 minutes into the video you changed bowls and then around 4.19 you change again. Beautiful work what ever you did - the epoxy resin gave a fantastic finish and the flaws in the Burl gave it a lot of character. Well done!

Wow Simon, that is beautiful, the figure, and that finish is perfect my friend. Excellent work.
Cheers

+Mike Waldt Thank you so much Mike
Completely off centre, your reverse chucking is dreadful. No way are you going to get a perfect turn doing this.
First of all, GORGEOUS! You did a fantastic job.

Exquisite! Looks like marble. Thank you for explaining that you left it intact. I had wondered how you got it off the lathe. Now I know. Thanks for explaining that light through the crack.
Very beautiful patterns in the wood. I'm sure whoever buys it is going to love it.
+WatcherintheDark69 Thank you very much!
The sad souls of the tree that was cut down are escaping through that wood. At least I assume that's what those crazy noises are.
Wood has so much beauty in each piece.
Anyone else feel the need to touch this at 1:46
Wow feel so talentless now ta lovely by the way
A masterclass in woodwork. Magnificent!
+Felipe Reyes Thank you very much Sir
don't know why, but there's something oddly satisfying in watching videos like this.
When im in a fight with my gf I watch these to relieve stress
@WrathMachine Nothing can or will relieve that stress.
So satisfying to watch. Great work 😊👌
+Bernadettes P0ST Thank you very much Bernadette

Exactly what I was thinking the whole time.
I know it's a bit late from the date of this video, but I have a curious question.

@Commentor1 looking at his website for a sink is between 500-700 dollars for a bowl I don't know
@Eagle1 it takes one to know one. There really was no need for a comment like that. Have a good day, dog shit!
@Commentor1 eagle was right, commentor. Why feel a need for vulgarity? It's a sign of ignorance.
Junniper, "....poly would OF.."? Take a grammar course.
That is one beautiful piece .. Nice to see craftsman working, instead of a mass production robot.
All your projects are fantastics. I am a new woodturner, I hope ill can turn beautifull pieces like this one day ! Congrats
Turned out nicely. Would rather not have seen so much waste from the interior. You had a whole extra bowl inside there. Could have been a match set.
+Donald Tyra Thank you, I don't have a coring system
Donald Tyra hello I agree when I saw that. How would you do that.
A piece of burl like that is the perfect time to buy one... If you could.
Donald Tyra Nice pun too
yea I agree there are tools for cutting/turning the center out for 2 or more bowls
how does something spinning on a lathe end up lop-sided? Serious question. I can't process that
Harley Jordan I think moisture escaping when you expose more wood can cause the wood to warp
@@elijablin1171 When you remove sections of wood, it relives stresses in the wood causing it to move (warp).
When it is still spherical, it looks very similar to Jupiter
True
I thought the same thing
This is what they use to make this fake planets.
Beautiful job mate, well done. I am brand new to wood turning and this is very inspirational
That was mesmerizing to watch.. your skill is amazing, what a beautiful result! Glad this channel was in my recommend videos.
+Trace Face Thank you very much ☺️
Do you get any splinters from all of this wood turning? Great work.
+Nicholas Rich no splinter ☺️ Thank you
its uncommon to get splinters from woodturning
Damn near felt like I needed safety glasses just to watch this😂
E bem satisfatório ficar olhando isso.
Wood is beautiful no two pieces are alike.... nice work
Beautiful bowl. I noticed it has got 1.6million views. Didn’t know there were that many wood turners.
+Tom Wilcox Thank you tom
He should keep changing hands . Otherwise his left forearm will get buff/ strong and people will misinterpret it.
Exactly why people like u shud be banned from the internet
@@aloks81 come on. It was funny
Beautiful
+Scott Crabtree Thank Scott
Richard Kelbe that's your opinion
Scott Crabtree o
Scott Crabtree exactly what I said... absolutely amazing
+Joshua Long Thanks ☺️
Nice job, what did you fill the crack with ?
+Sandy Toes Detecting Thank you, with alumillite.
Phil McCraken was here
he smoked it
Lol
That would make an awesome powder room sink! Nice job and a beautiful piece of burl.
+James Purcell Thanks
If I was rich these would be all over my house. Worth every cent.
It's a shame 50% of such a beautiful piece of wood ends up as kindling on the floor. Beautiful work however..... kudos!
+Jay Rovers Thanks Jay

Two smaller ones, but not that size. Unfortunately woodturning a big bowl requires a lot of waste.
I know right
I think you also live in a house which is made of 50% of wood .. 😎
The fast forward noises are kinda creepy
+ballinvsxx hahaha
Seriously, it sounds like the cliche "mysterious transmission" at the beginning of an alien horror film.

Nicely done! A beautiful piece of wood and a beautiful piece of work.
The most beautiful bacterial infection I've seen today.

That's what the clear coat is for
Turned out nicely. Would rather not have seen so much waste from the interior. You had a whole extra bowl inside there.
How would you extract that extra bowl?

I was thinking that. I'd have found a way. The fact it was lopsided and not flat bugged me too.
Agreed.
Al empiezo pense k era Dios cuando creo al planeta Jupiter xD pero ya despues cambio de forma xD
That would make one hell of a sink. Guests would never leave your bathroom 😁
Nice to see a bowl turned properly - nice result
Burl doesn't like giving up her beauty without a Crack or two.
+Louis Cypher lol yeah
Don Schneider no just want save the beauty of the wood as much as possible.
@@simongadoury3244 where are you nowadays. some of the best turnings on youtube... come back!

Your wood working is great but you wasted most of the beauty of that wood.
What a beautiful bowl, Simon. You are a master with a lathe! Thanks for posting.
proper finish & I really like your tech minimalist approach
well done sir
Gorgeous! Beautiful burl in that cherry.
Didn't see the point of the first coat of stain when you just sanded it all off
Dude Imhigh the reason the first coat is sanded...all coats get sanded is because they aren’t completely smooth. It will bubble and dry unevenly so you sand it down to make it smooth.
The first coat was resin not stain
It wasn't stain. It's gloss. It's what made the wood so smooth and shiny
Gorgeous grain & inclusions. I love it
+Dawn Mason Thank you very much Dawn
It's hard to believe someone that is skilled like this would leave a bowl lopsided
Thought the same thing. It seems that lathe was so exacting, I was surprised to see the bowl wagging at the rim.
The outside of your bowl looks like the surface of a planet! Amazing!
wat if somebody wants to buy it as a hat
+Joel Bennett I sell it as a hat

You put WAY to much honey on that bowl.
