    Just picked up a hardly used one for $200. Will go in our off grid tiny house with my Jackery 1000 and 750 watts of rooftop solar. So excited!

    If you set it to 35 does it cycle down to 32, alternately freezing and then thawing your food? My current fridge does that and the manufacture claims that is normal so I'm looking for a replacement that won't ruin food in the fridge with all the freezing and thawing cycles.

      None of my ICECO units have done that.

      ICECO gave me a VL60 dual and it is great, but for us almost too big. We are doing a 2018 Ford Transit 250 van conversion, so we have room for it on the ICECO slide. ICECO units are very well made. Be safe!

    I just checked this model at the iceco website. The compressor on this model is danfoss with 5 year warranty, but you said differently?Can you clarify this? Thanks.

    • @charlesmoman

      They changed it to the Danfoss when it went to regular retail.

    What? The Jp42 has a Secop compressor on Amazon - $559.

    I just purchased this model. After following the brief instructions I have the fridge set at 50° F and it is still freezing my food and drinks. This shouldn't be happening. I can't get anyone on the phone or anyone online with customer support to help me with this problem. I was hoping you might help?

    Nice review. I got one with the Kickstarter program too, sold it locally and have ordered one with the Secop compressor. Anxious to see if there is much difference. I know I was fine with the Huyai compressor and it sounded normal. Another budget line of fridges made by Iceco is their Setpower line that also uses the Huyai compressor.
    One thing I was going to mention is that I travel with one plugged into my trucks cig outlet and I find that it doesn't come close to running the battery down overnight to the point I can't start it. I noticed you were switching over to your portable battery when not driving. I don't think you need to worry doing that if you are going to be driving the next day. I always set the battery protection level to the lowest level and just make it my responsibility to track my vehicle's battery voltage. The reason for that is that some vehicles give quite a voltage drop between battery and the outlet. So because of that, you can end up getting a trip when there actually still is plenty of voltage. With my son's van, we just ended up connecting direct to the battery when we were camping and bypassed the cig plug because for some reason in that car we were getting nearly a 2v drop between battery to cig plug.

      I have a Jackery 500 and 160 and 2 Ecoflow Delta 1300's, so I have lots of power. Plus, the 12v ports turn off after a while when we get out so I have to use something.

    • @jeffl6089

      Ok, that makes sense. My ports stay on when the ignition key is off.

    Which do you prefer.. the iCooler or the Go20? I've been thinking about a fridge/freezer for my cargo trailer camper. I'd prefer a dual zone.. but I don't want something too large. The GO20 seems very small tho. And I've read a lot of reviews complaining about the 12v power cord. I'd prob use it in combination with a regular cooler.. I'm thinking about giving the GO20 a try...

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  4 роки тому

      Joe Scopa GO20 hands down. With no ice taking up space, it’s “bigger” than a normal 20L. We have a small cooler for use too.

    • @treasurethetime2463
      @treasurethetime2463 3 роки тому

      @@charlesmoman you can always freeze "reusable ice" type products in the go 20 then toss them in your cooler and have the best of both worlds.
      Buy enough of those ice things to rotate and you have no ice requirement, a freezer and a "fridge" by way of the cooler. Seems a lot more flexible and usable than this big heavy combo thing. Could anyone really carry a 60 pound cooler to the beach?

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  3 роки тому +1

      I say go with the Go20. It is small, but we made it work our western trip last summer. We normally are not far from a grocery store. The cord issue? It is a universal problem with cigarette plug. So many do not fit tight. Why on earth do companies keep using this old plug? I cut off the plug and reword with a Cuzek 12v plug from Amazon. I got a 6 or 12 foot cord and spliced it in the ICECO cord. I am having the same issue with a cord with our ICECO VL60D fridge/freezer. I am cutting off the cigarette plug and just wiring the cord directly to my fuse block in out Ford Transit we just converted. I will do a video about it soon on my van build series on this channel.

    • @charlesmoman

    Thx for this review & stats running on both sizes of your Jackery. I think the Go20 is closer to the size I’m looking at for minivan camping trip I want to do on Lewis & Clark Trail.

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  4 роки тому

      I agree - the iCooler is nice, but for us in our Grand Caravan it is just too big. We really like the GO20 because we are nearly always within a short drive to a Walmart or grocery store. I am hoping ICECO sends me a GO12 to review also. Smaller just works better for us. We are not off-grid boon docking types. We will be at RMNP in July and will have no shore power, but with the GO20 and two Jackery units and solar panels, we are good. Check out my simple solar set video too. Thanks for watching and be safe.

    Great review, we would like to keep this in our van for weekend shopping trips to markets. Do you think we could keep this plugged into the Jackery then keep the Jackery plugged into the van so when the van is running the Jackery is charging. What do you think ? Our van also has a 120 volt outlet but is limited to 150 watts.

    • @charlesmoman
      @charlesmoman  3 роки тому

      That is basically what we do now. I now use Ecoflow units. When out of our newly-converted Transit - we plug our ICECO VL60D into the battery and when driving plug the ICECO into the car cigarette outlet and if needed also the Ecoflow.

      @barry-cq4xg 4 роки тому

      Thank you for your reply. Yes, of course, it is obvious that capacity is 42 litres.... i merely needed confirmation. Usually in the US capacity is normally quoted in quarts (whatever that is) and I did not hear you mention this (unless i missed it). I have to say that all these small portable fridge/freezer units seem to be very expensive especially here in United Kingdom. There are alternative methods. Nice video.

      It is an interesting unit - I wish it had the Danfoss German-made compressor like the GO20 and some of their other units. We will not use it on long trips, like our upcoming 2+ week Colorado trip next month because it takes up too much room in our van. We will always be near to stores to replenish our food supply, so we do not need that much cooling space. Whatever people buy, they HAVE to get a lithium battery unit that has a 12v regulated port or their fridge will TURN OFF when the battery capacity depletes to 50% or so. The Jackery and Ecoflow units have 12v regulated ports but some major brands do not. It is a big deal and people are not always aware of that issue.

    Great review and it looks great. Thank You! Something to consider though: While you can put loose ice in any 12v freezer, I would not recommend it as most don't have a drain plug and in order to dump melted water out, you would have to pick it up and turn the unit over at an extreme angle. Something that compressor fridges/freezers don't like. That's why most manufacturers suggest waiting anywhere from 12-24 hours after receiving one shipped to you before firing it up, to allow the coolant to settle in case it was shipped on its side or upside down, and avoid compressor overheat and possible burnout. I think that's one of the features that makes this unit unique...you can safely drain it while upright. I've always wondered why no one had added this simple feature before.
