i still liked how you could make Tails fly where as in sonic two you couldnt make him do that. I remember one time i was playing this game with just sonic by himself one of the later stages of the game, and out of no where tails came and played along with me. I wondered how i did it? but i was glad lol
The Genesis actually had two soundchips, the Yamaha chip you mentioned, which provides five FM synthesis channels and one 8-bit PCM sound channel, and then a Texas Instruments chip (also used in the Master System) which provides three square-wave channels and one white noise generator.
Happy 20th Anniversary, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (October 18, 1994 - October 18, 2014). Despite the minor flaws, it still remains in the #1 spot on my personal list of the greatest Sonic the Hedgehog games ever. I also consider it to be one of the best video games ever created in the 1990s decade.
Act 1 music is happier and fits the beginning of the level. Act 2 is more groovy and has a beautiful more dramatic minor part in it. Guess it fits the chaotic nature of the second Act more. I personally prefer the Act 2 one from a musical standpoint.
@Ty4ons I wouldnt go that far to say its sound quality wasnt as great as others, but thats my opinion as well, and i respect yours. I liked Ice Cap zone's music more than anything else with Angel Island and the Final Boss music being very close to it. Ice Cap had a melodramatic feeling to it, I also enjoyed Megadrivers remix to it with its guitar and piano combo which i recommend checking out if you like rock music
This music customizes the emerald green introduction act of Angel Island to a level forever intent on putting an addictive spell on the player, all until the score is settled with Mr sunshine who put the same act on fire.
A great mixture of carribean music and 70's hard instrumental disco music. Very cleverly orchestraded! And you can tell this one is not by Michael Jackson because it isn't fucked up!
Yes, we do know which tracks. It may not have been confirmed, but let's use our context clues. The PC version of this game was released after Micheal Jackson said he wanted out. Notice, certain songs on the PC version are different from the ones on Mega Drive. Also, Micheal Jackson loved to use unique samples in his works. So, which songs were replaced in the PC and used unique samples? Carnival Night Zone, Ice Cap Zone, Launch Base Zone, Knuckle's theme, and the Mini boss. So, there it is.
@brendude95 well, I hate to brag, but I saw him back in August, at Summer of Sonic. They had a Q&A session with the band and I raised my hand and got to ask one.
Michael Jackson wrote /some/ of the tracks, not all of which were necessarily used. We know he worked on the soundtrack, but we don't know what songs were used. He was uncredited because he asked to be; he was unsatisfied with the limited sound quality the Genesis posed, so he didn't want it to be associated with him.
@BLAHRGProductions he wasnt credited because of the child molestation scandal... and it was more than 'inspired' by his music, every single non-japanese person who worked on the music for this game , except one, is a producer working with Michael Jackson
I'm sure many of the people who view these particular videos probably liked Michael Jackson's work... but this wasn't one of them. He was going to be a composer for Sonic 3... but it didn't end up happening. The Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection verifies this. Some of the music may have been influenced by MJ's work, but in the end he had no part in anything Sonic 3 related. Credit should be given to the people who were actually involved, as seen in the end credits.
@spynae The guy who disabled commenting on the Ice Cap video talked about how he hated the use of samples in MJ's Sonic 3 songs. Explains a lot, while Ice Cap in my opinion is kick ass, its sound quality is a lot less impressive than other songs like Flying Battery and Chemical Plant because the Genesis' sound chips (don't know if it was the FM or PSG, or both which did the samples) were awful at samples.
Whoa.. hold the phone! You're telling me the King of Pop left himself uncredited from this soundtrack because he didn't like Yamaha's FM synthesis chip? If this is true, then that's such a dismissive and egotistical thing to say about a piece of hardware which inarguably allowed composers to craft some of the most beloved chip-tunes of the decade!
5 year old comment but just... for anyone new reading this low down. Thats not true. The issue Michael Jackson had was how the Megadrive couldn't replicate the original music accurately enough. It's not a simple matter of not liking it. He demanded perfection from his music as is well known. It simply wasn't close enough to what the original music sounded like, which wasn't even made with the Megadrive's limitations in mind.
@brendude95 its okay, sometimes I do, but rarely now, cos of bullying threats. YOU NEVER heard of women playing Sonic games? O__O; Well, again I hate bragging, but I have been known to play'em a lot, the oldies anyway (I hate the new stuff, no offence)...but I'm not really a hardcore fan.
The intro to this game still gives me the chills, i tell ya hwat. Soaring over an immaculate blue ocean, dashing through lush jungle... Amazing.
then knuckles ruins your happiness :(
when I was younger my parents got divorced and sonic games always made me feel better :,)
***** Well of course!!
Freddy Fazbear, Freddy Fazbear, Freddy Fazbear
Magdalena Bartosiewicz Yes?
i wasn't talking to you, i made a list of other freddy fazbear accounts
Im glad you enjoyed your childhood ;).
Ah what a beautiful and peaceful place. Nothing can possibly go wro- nevermind everything is on fire
To be honest it wasn't a good start for Sonic when Knuckles punches him out of Super mode the second he reaches the island.
Hard to believe that this game is almost 20 years old. Unbelievable.
I agree. It feels like the first twenty years of my life just flew by. #timeflies #wheredotheyearsgo
Malbro Jay So am I.
Malbro Jay I agree. It's like something from the Twilight Zone!
Hard to believe this comment was 5 years ago
So the game is older now
Today this masterpiece game turns 28 years!!! Happy Birthday Sonic 3!!!
This song, game and the character Tails will always have a special place in my heart
Me too
This song just goes with Tails so much like it's his own theme.
Personally I associate it with Knuckles. Not sure why.
@@Kapin05 probably cuz he guards the emerald to keep the island safe
No it goes with knuckles 10x morw
I’d say this is more Knuckles, while Emerald Hill is more Tails
@@camo6465 And green hill is sonic

What a nice-
And everything is on fire...
Nostalgia can't believe the year went by fast feels like i played this game yesterday
The game is 25 years old... Where does time go...
What would we do without Sonic?
nothing
Homework.
Play Pokémon.
+Ittis Mookie
Play Mario.

YM2612 and Z80 actually.
Interesting, good to know.

I enjoy this type of music.
Brings back memories, doesn't it?
This is still a master piece even over 25 year
This is one of my favorite songs throughout the whole series without a doubt!
thanks. i will use the extended version when i go for a run in the woods.
I played this full volume on big speakers to show how happy I was when I got the newest PC gaming
I'm one of those strange people who prefer this act's theme over the 2nd.
Nothing strange about that. It’d be strange if someone preferred act 2.
@@iim4xii129 I prefer Act 2 so i guess i am strange lmao.

1994: The whole jungle's on fire! (this is totally what Sonic would have said if Sonic 3 had voice acting)
2006: The whole city's on fire!
Emerald Hill < Palmtree Panic < Green Hill < Mushroom Hill < Angel Island.
3&K is more of a masterpiece than 2 could ever hope to achieve.
I think they're both equal
perfect music for going on a beachvacation
I kinda liked that bug because it fits how the landscape was turned into the one used in Act 2.

Música do ato 1:bem vindo a esta calma e pacífica ilha ,conheça esta linda floresta
Música do ato 2:TÁ PEGANDO FOGO BICHO!!!!!
Sonic: Man am I bored. What’s a guy supposed to do without something interesting around?
act 1 music is happy, act 2 music is sad
***** Yes, also the scale went from major (act1) to minor (act2), which helps set the mood.
Act 1 seems stupid. Act 2 probably is sad cuz of the fire.
zzzzzzzz
Magdalena Bartosiewicz What?
act 2 sounds upbeat to me still
It's Green Hill Zone, but with a jungle that catches *_FIYAHHHHHH!!!_*
POV:this got recommended to you after 12 years
I love this music . I wish to hear you in Smash again
I like some things of this game like the face change on sonic or Sonic 3 & Knuckles where you could play as knuckles too
This music customizes the emerald green introduction act of Angel Island to a level forever intent on putting an addictive spell on the player, all until the score is settled with Mr sunshine who put the same act on fire.
Oh look, trees!!
Michael made it, one hint:
- Tails - Sonic, no, it's DANGEROUS!
A great mixture of carribean music and 70's hard instrumental disco music. Very cleverly orchestraded! And you can tell this one is not by Michael Jackson because it isn't fucked up!
First heard this music in the Sonic Flash game. *NO REGRETS.*
You could sing Jumpin out the window by Ron Browz to this!

Brawl's version of this is more rock type but this one is just relaxing!
I'm pretty sure he wrote songs for the Sonic 2 special stage. Listen carefully, and the music will sound similar to one of his songs!
my favorite music

so, they remixed some of MJ's songs? Please don't lecture me, I did not even know about this.
This may sound like a stupid question but out of curiosity, if you were to not fade it out at the end would we hear Sonic die from "time over"?
wait what? he wrote sonic songs? 0.o

Michael did not really make the music for this game, he was not credited for it, perhaps it was inspired by his music.
