    Thank you for another great video! I actually bought the CT-S1000V. It has the same tones as the CT-S500, and I also bought the PSR-E473 at the same time because i needed them for two separate purposes. I have the Casio CT-X800, but the bass reflex sound system on the CT-S1000V makes all the different because it gives the keyboard a stronger, fatter sound. I think the Casio has a crisper sound (IMO) and the Yamaha has a rich sound with excellent flow. (You are right about the sustain, attack and decay). I really like the smaller, narrow size of the Casio because I often travel 3 hours to help care for my elderly parents. I even found a rifle case that fits the Casio perfectly, since narrow 61 key gig bags are hard to find and very expensive. That much travel requires a case. My mom loves to listen to me play, so it cheers her up.
    The PSR-E473 has amazing strings and other great sounds, plus bigger speakers. Very rich, but I have to say that I like the piano sounds on both. I can't decide. It depends on the song. The microphone jack was another reason why I bought the PSR-E473, but it's not as portable. I already had a PSR-EW310 and that's a very nice one too---not as good as the 473, but I agree with you. How wonderful that people on a smaller budget can get instruments nowadays that have sounds way beyond the price point. I appreciate your in depth reviews and comparisons. It helps a prospective buyer make a decision.

      Thanks so much! You're right about the portability, the Casios are SO super portable (the Yamahas are both very bulky and deep)! And yes, I wish they had a cheaper case for those - my 61 key bag has the CT-S1 flopping around in it, but I just can't justify spending almost the same on the Casio case as I did for the keyboard! I've heard of others buying those rifle cases as well, seems they fit perfectly. And that's a wonderful thing, playing for your mother that's fantastic you do that.
      I also spent a long time looking for a case for the EW425, it's a funny size - I'm surprised Yamaha never made a case all this time for the EW410; I found a Levy's bag that's a bit large but it actually fits not bad and it's a high quality bag with lots of padding (EM522DX Deluxe Keyboard Gig Bag) - it's 52" long so about 4 inches too long, but the width is nice and snug.
      And I'm super impressed with that mic jack - I'm actually using that in a lot of my new videos through the keyboard and straight to my phone via USB (recording the video) and not bothering with an external audio interface, it's SOO much more convenient.
      Thanks again for all the kind words, and keep making your mom smile with your playing!

      Regarding the PSR-E473, you gave me some really good information on how to set the DSP effects on the mic. If you ever felt inspired to do a video tutorial on that, you would most likely be one of the very few---or only one---because I couldn't find a UA-cam tutorial on it at all before you told me how. I was having a hard time with the manual. Plus, there's something about watching someone actually demonstrate a function. (Maybe you've already covered that and I missed it)...

    Owning both of these keyboards, my personal preference is the Yamaha, hands down. I’ve also run both of these through the same PA system, and I don’t consider the Casio sound to be gig-worthy. It is also worth noting that the resonance on the Yamaha can be adjusted very easily through a wide range, which I find to be very handy.
    I do use the CT-S1 at home to practice soloing against different UA-cam backing tracks (which incidentally is something I just started to help me become more creative with my leads). In that capacity the CT-S1 works very well-better than the Roland Go Keys I’d been using previously. I like both the keyboard touch and the piano sound better on the Casio when compared to the Roland Go Keys. In my opinion the Yamaha PSR-Ew425 is far superior to both the Roland and the Casio, and I think if you can afford it, the Yamaha is worth the extra cash.

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks a bunch for that! I also prefer the Yamaha sound - I haven’t started playing much with effects yet I will have to try out the resonance (although I did compare the EQ presets and I prefer the “piano” one to the “standard”).
      Thanks again!

    good to know... one story is that yesterday I played my CT-S1 which I got for the good sound... but after playing the Roland FP-30X, I cannot go back to the spring loaded keyboard... maybe I should have got the PX-S1000, PX-S1100, or the PX-S5000 really (PX-S5000 has a better keyboard action... but I am not sure if it is triple sensor)

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  Рік тому +1

      The FP30x is triple sensor and is also a heavy action; the PXS1000/1100 is dual sensor “smart scaled” (so software is helping manage dynamics) and is MUCH lighter. The 5000 is apparently much heavier than the 1000/1100 action and more realistic (so probably close the Roland).
      It really depends what you like - I like light fast actions so I prefer the PXS1000/1100/3000/3100 or the Yamaha P125 (GHS action) to the Roland, but that’s just me. It doesn’t say on Casio’s site if the 5000 is triple sensor or not, just that it is improved over the older series.

    I wanted to go for yamaha psr 473 as opposed to the casio cts500 but yamaha has only 2 chord detection types doesn't it but casio has more chord detection types and I need keyboard with full keyboard chord detection so can play like a piano with the accompaniments rather than just holding chords down in my left hand. But yamaha you cant play whole keyboard as a Pianist and the accompaniments change when detects the chords I'm trying to play... am I correct in thinking this is correct? Thanks

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  6 місяців тому +1

      @@realstreetuk To be fair I've never reviewed/tested the CT-S500; but I have owned many Casios including the CT-S1. If it was me I would buy the EK-50 (I reviewed that here: ua-cam.com/video/X59R-PWCoDg/v-deo.html) over the CT-S500; The keys are true full size, and I love the user interface. The only issue with the EK-50 is there is really one one good piano sound (but it is good and it is very versatile; it's bright enough to cut through the mix and be used for brighter songs, but is still nice for ballads etc). The Casio will have more than 1 good piano sound, and probably a better electric piano sound as well.
      Hope that helps!

    Is the piano tone in the E473 the same as in the E373?

    • @PianoTone
      @PianoTone  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there! It’s the same sample, but there is a 25% increase in polyphony on the E473/EW425 so Yamaha COULD have upgraded the voice in those keyboards with more detailed samples.
      There is also a new improved tone generator in the 473/425 which could also improve the sound of that (and every other) voice sample.
      I actually want to rent a 373 so I can compare them for myself to see if I can hear a difference. I’ve emailed Yamaha to ask (that will take a while to hear back ;)

      @@PianoTone Thanks for the reply . Yes i heard the E473 has 64 voice polyphony ,which will help with note drop outs .I actually own a E373 i just wanted a cheap keyboard with a nice piano sound ,and i must say it doesn't dissapoint , plus the keybed feels really nice for this price range .I watched a video comparing the piano and other voices of the E373 and E473 on the Jeremy See channel , and to my ears both pianos sounded good , maybe they have improved the dsp effects on the E473 ,so that would enhance its sounds more .But for me if you just want a keyboard for a more than decent piano ,and electric piano's the E373 fits the bill at around 200 dollars .

      Yeah the 373 is an amazing value (actually the 473/425 are as well for the additional features they offer); all 3 are fantastic value - exception in the PSR line is the 273 - I know that one’s inexpensive, but older piano samples, no touch sensitivity and not even USB is crazy, even for a lower price.

    The Yamaha wins because it has more buttons! Yes, really!
    No, I don't mean to be THAT funny. I've returned two Casios, not because they didn't have the features, but because you had to painfully dig for them.

      I have to agree! After renting, buying and selling and reviewing keyboards and pianos for 3 years now, I will never again purchase one that doesn’t have a menu screen and good user interface; looking up key combinations in a manual to change basic settings or depending on an iPad app for that is no longer an option for me :)
