Great video mate, Stewart has been a architect down back for us for many years, he is poised in the contest, reads the game as well as any, a great kick that helps us open teams up, is able to get on his bike and add metres gained allowing us to penetrate teams when they set up behind the ball. As you’ve shown with your analysis he’s been able to continue that when a soft tag has gone to him but with a hard tag he’s been unable to influence the game as normal. Hence us breaking down at the back and not being able to rebound off half back as effectively. Putting him in the guts last week helped free him up!
Scotts coaching and selection of new players against Essendon was first class. The move of Stewart was a masterclass move and there was evidence Geelong lifted their pressure acts and tackling numbers throughout the game. So this analysis is well and good however it is conceivable Geelong will turn their season around from here on in.
@@aflinsight2023 I'm a Geelong support too, and I'd agree Geelong aren't traveling all that well, in spite of the win against Essendon. I can't see any way Geelong can play Blicavs as the primary ruckman and not lose clearances. They HAVE to play Toby Conway. The same applies with Shannon Neale, they have to play him, now that Hawkins isn't available. Our mids should be Conway, Danger, Guthrie, and Bruhn, with guys like Aitkins, Blicavs, and Bowes as support. But we never seem to get all our best mids on the track at the same time. Jack Henry has also not played well this season, and even Brad Close has been a bit quiet of late.
Great data. Wish we had access to behind the goals footage. Cats are rebuilding on the fly. No ruck, no midfield. How do u view Stewarts move into the middle vs Ess. Created Tuohy as the sweeper and Stewart as a sagging mid.
I thought it was a great move and it allowed him to have the defensive freedom which had been taken away from him. He is such a brilliant player and needs to be maximized so kudos to Scott for pulling the trigger on it. Will be interesting to see if teams put time into him whilst he is in the midfield as well...thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, much appreciated.
Love the analysis!! For me a big part of it starts with our midfield. If you have a midfield that is firing, i dont think you put your tagger/defensive player on a backman. You'd put them on the star mid. As the midfield is so thin (esp when danger was missing, plus guthrie) it becomes a lose/lose. You struggle in the midfield and then a tagger stops the architect of the backline. Thoughts?!? Loved Stewies move to the midfield against the bombers. Will be interesting to see how the next couple of weeks play out.
Thanks for the great video I think Chris Scott needs to realise that it has bottom out and rebuilding needs to start with young kids. I would like you to see why Sydney is doing everything so right and why? And is this a flash in the pan for Hawthorn or is the real thing that teams need to be aware of coming into the finals.
@@protoindoeuropean with this game on Saturday between Geelong and Hawthorn we will see if Geelong is fine or it's going to tell us if they need to rebuild. With Hawthorn it will tell us if they are really good or it's been a lot of luck over the last few weeks and still have a long way to go.
Every team has form issues. Yes their midfield is bad but they are rebuilding on the fly. U can’t expect to be a premiership contender every year. Geelong has had a good run but they certainly aren’t going to bottom out like many hope 😂
I think Geelong will make the finals but whilst they have a team that could win a GF, they certainly will not this year. I agree with your analysis and I get the feeling from the body language of Chris, is that he has not got the answers at this critical time of the year. With Toms influence being nullified, Geelong really struggle to clear the ball from their back line. They kick to a contest and rely on turn over to get the ball forward. This is not good enough. The forwards don’t get service as good forward deserve. Then, the forwards don’t defend the ball in their forward line. It comes out week after week to uncontested passion by their opponents. This is a real frustration to me and of course puts enormous pressure on the backs. In 22 the year began as it now is. Ball leaving the forward line with ease by the opposition and putting the backs under pressure. This changed with Geelong in the 2 nd half of the season and their winning streak into the finals evidenced this turn around, Gary Rohan is the one forward that turns that around. Underrated by many (not me) the rundown tackle pressure he applies swings games by just the sheer pressure placed on the backs which in turn causes mistakes which the small forwards capitalise on. So for me I would love you to analyze the ease of ball transition from the Geelong forward line. Personally I think it’s this aspect of the game that is killing the cats. Football today is all about pressure and forcing mistakes. That pressure is being forgotten about by all but Gary Rohan on the Geelong forward line. This in turn makes it a lot harder for Tom Stewart. Love to know what you think? I have followed Geelong for over 60 years.
60 years! Good man...I think you are definitely on to something there. Cats rank second last for Tackles Inside 50 differential, ahead of only the Kangaroos. Close, Myers and Stengle all average less than one Tackle Inside 50 per game. Gary was certainly on top of his game against the Bombers on the weekend. It's so hard to evaluate teams when there has been no continuity and that has certainly been the case down at Kardinia Park this year (and last)...hopefully they can all get on the park together before September comes around. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment...appreciate it.
Scotty never says anything negative about any of his players in a press conference. Negative/constructive feedback to individual players will be done in private. The Cats bosses know exactly what is happening with their players, they just won’t talk about it publicly.
This year will be the first time I will go to see the Cats play and they decide to shit the bed - i should have known, my teams crap themselves whenever I go to a game, lol
You are overstating the importance of rounds 1-7, if you look closer at who we beat, only the blues were in any sort of decent form. Crows, Roos, Saints, Hawks, Lions, Dogs (arguably cats only won due to excellent kicking accuracy). There’s a tonne of other flaws too. You’re probably somewhat correct about Stewart hard tag affecting games, but your supporting arguments don’t have much meat on the bone.
Appreciate the feedback, feel free to elaborate further...i won't be offended. In my defence, I don't think I was really arguing anything...more just laying out data I had collated and trends I had observed and putting it out there for others to make up their own minds. Thanks for watching.
@@aflinsight2023 Didn't sound like just dry data, more like building a narrative. Most people didn't have a great perspective of the cats early season performance, the way you presented the stats paints a similar picture by not acknowledging the form and ladder positions of the opponents. Anyway, most comments are supportive so I guess you can just disregard this one then.
old and cooked, the early rounds are due to having a great preseason, by round 6 most teams have caught up, the old players are done. When it comes to defence Geelong are dependant on midfield pressure forcing the long kick, but with such a weak midfield that pressure is no longer applied allowing teams to hit targets instead of bombing and hoping. Scott talks like a politician, reality is there needs to be a clean out of about 10 players. Possibly a dozen over 2 years.
You don’t have to be a good player to put on pressure, no excuse in that regard. Our defenders are just loosing contests and we can’t seem to get that plus 1 down back anymore

great videos
2:30 worth noting that Guthrie and Dangerfield did both play in that first carlton game, and played well

Dangerfield, Guthrie, Stewart in the square.. it has a nice ring to it. Bose has been handy too

I don't think so either, they are too well drilled from top to bottom in every aspect of the Club to bottom out. Thanks for watching

So Tom Stewart is so powerful that he can now manipulate opposition forwards without even touching them 😂😂😂
Win this week and they’re probably in the top 4!
I think Stewart is still recovering from his concussion.
