There actually is a dipstick to check oil level on the right side of the engine below the clutch case... so make sure you haven't put too much oil in it because you may blow the oil pan gasket or worse-the headgasket!

I've been giving my blood to my work in the last 4 years, that's why I actually didn't follow my inscriptions on YT, and I didn't even know you had changed channels...Thanks to ++AB I got the track back to Motonosity! HAHUAHUAH! By the way, in 2013 my life took a change and I had to move to a bigger city to work, then I got limited time to spent on internet...but in 2015 I finnaly got a Yamaha XJ6N! I'd made a couple videos on my own channel! It's nice to be back! Have good roads!

When I changed the oil on my 17 only removed the left lower cover and loosened the left side cover towards the back. Also the bike has a dipstick to check the oil level.

There's an oil dipstick below the fill cap, slightly towards the rear brake foot lever. It looks like an idle adjustment knob. Using that dipstick is the proper and only way to check your oil level.

I saw he removed the entire left panel and upper small panel. That might be slightly helpful, but that’s really over kill. 2. the oil filter can be removed with a standard Toyota 14 four oil filter wrench if you have one handy which I did.
Just got myself a '20 R6, coming from a '09 600RR ABS. The Honda was designed that you could 'cheat' and change the oil/filter without pulling plastics. Looks like there's no way to do that here. Nice video, great job!

I own a ktm rc 200 whis also has similar riding position as your bike. I have neck pains when i ride this for longer distances. do you face the same issue?
for your new oil filter, you do not need to add new oil on the o-ring/ seal.. It comes greased from the factory. Thats half the reason why they add that plastic cover to it.

+X Tian I've heard that as well and it does take a few extra seconds to start up that I would expect. But it DOES start. So unless any problems arise, it's really not an issue. I'll update on anything that I find noteworthy!

I went from an 08 R6 to Honda 15' and felt the heat more on the R6. I wrecked the CBR and bought a 17 R6 and forgot how much heat I got on my legs. So yes it feels the same as the old one.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here before watching this vid and say Draining the oil on a R6 is like Draining the oil on any other vehicle, Step one put drain pan under vehicle, Step two drain oil, Step three remove old Filter, Step four install new Filter and drain plug then fill with fresh oil. Did I get it Right?
most people are more concerned with how to take Yamaha's notoriously complex fairings off to get to the filter and drain plug. but there are also newer riders needing to learn how to do their own oil
+spliffsperlunk it's not complicated now, but if you've never done it before, it's helpful to have a guide! Also, Yamaha likes hiding things behind plastics haha
I have a tip, intead of punching a hole in the old oil filter with a screw driver, you can take it off by wraping it around with tape and then pulling down.
Man don't understand why Yamaha makes it so hard to get to the oil filter. That's why I like my zx10r it's right there at the bottom and very easy to get too. But u made it look easy so can't be to bad good video very informative!
You could have used I think either 6mm or 8mm bolts in the holes where the spools go and it will temporarily prop the bike on a pit bull stand. Until you get spools anyways... Loving the R6 videos

Nice. Should mention that you need a torque wrench specifically for tightening the drain plug. Should be about 25 Nm. Demonstrating use of the torque wrench instead of glossing over it would improve your tutorial. You don't want to overtighten that plug, nor do you want it too loose. What's your thought of using car oil in a motorcycle? I've ridden my motorcycle (MZ Baghira, has 660 Yamaha Raptor motor) for almost 50k, doing nothing but car oil changes. 10W30 or 10W40. It's way cheaper than the Racing 4T stuff and over 50k, I have saved a lot of money going the cheaper route. My bike is a 660cc single, not a supersport, though.

I bought a r6 2017 and the guy at the dealership told me that the first time I change the oil I have to use 10w-40w oil and after the first time use 15w-50w always..... That's OK? What u think?

man, i loved my Ninja 300 but it takes, what seems like a lot, just to do an oil change on these sportbikes. I got used to it though. Love how much easier it is on my Vulcan S.
Next time you should replace the crush washer on the drain bolt, the are meant to be used only once. It's a soft metal and will deform to make a tight seal.
Does anyone reuse their oil filter between oil changeS? For everyone possibly opining why wouldn’t anyone want to change the filter; I always do. This is just a simple question. I’m wondering because my oil is perfectly clean after 3.5k miles on a 19k mile bike. I live in Seattle suburbs so I ride half the year only. -Obviously, the oil filter has done its job as designed and that’s mainly the reason my oil stays super clean. Just asking what would happen if not replaced or if anyone reuses theirs for another round?

Motonosity the light just turns on when the oil pressure is to low. So you could damage your engine with to less oil.

channel locks are good as well. ive used them in the past to remove oil filters.

If there is enough room you can wrap your hand around the filter with sandpaper in your hand and twist

Chanel locks work for taking off oil filters. Better than hammering a screwdriver, have it slip and scratch your bike.
so you just tightening the bolt after draining the oil without using any coating on the bolt ?

This was actually pretty interesting. All of my oil filters have always been internal.

My quick fastener screw just spins and spins (center only as it should), but never loosens so the tabs can fit in. I am going crazy, thoughts??
Motonocity does the bike shift a lot better once you change the oil

DO NOT USE K&N oils filters the weldnut on the end WILL fail and spew oils everywhere. This has happened to me and about 30 other riders I know.
Eric Gudzinas cause the weldnut isn't made to to tighten the filter it's used so when your ready to take it off it's easier
