I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this in Albany, NY last night. Absolutely blew me away. The crowd jumped to their feet for standing ovation the second it ended. Seeing musicians having as much fun on stage as we were watching them was an absolute joy. The night was only made better by the fact that my 15 year old daughter enjoyed it as much as I did.
I'm lucky enough to have seen them several times, as I live just outside Asheville NC and these guys are local. They are so humble as well as skilled. Earlier this year, my husband and I saw them in Brevard (half the band is from Brevard, half from Asheville) and they got a standing ovation as soon as they came out on stage and hadn't yet played a note - it was amazing!
As usual, another Grammy level performance by the fiddle player!! As a player of the other stringed instruments in the band, I wouldn't want to keep the bottom going like that , for that long..............takes some real stamina to hold it together thru such a long featured fiddle performance!
3:30 - Norwegian Wood (Beatles) 5:30 - Hallelujah 5:45 - Barber of Seville (Rossini) 6:05 - The Simpsons Theme Song 6:25 - The Flintstones Theme Song 6:50 - Good Vibrations (Beach Boys) 7:50 - Flight of the Bumblebee
Seen this done by many bands over the years, by far- This version my favorite- love the improvisation by the fiddler- and best sounding train whistle "whine" you'll ever hear. Check out their live version with Steve Martin as well.
I had the pleasure of meeting Nicky at Birdfest 2016 in Panola, South Carolina. He is the definition of a nice guy. Myself and others were working the event and he came over and visited with us. It was a great time in the presence of Musical Greatness !
Thanks for the comment, Grace. Bill Knowlton's long and distinguished career has helped build and maintain bluegrass music not only in central New York, but around the world. He's one of our great treasures.
Thanks for the wonderful music . And thank s also go to Bill Knowton for his teachings in Bluegrass Music if not for folks like him help keep the music alive. And these wonderful you tube video's Thanks
He grew up in San Francisco, but as a Californian I am so happy to see him living in NC and playing with the Steeps. There is no other human being on planet earth I'd rather watch play the fiddle!
Music is so weird, it's both a mental and physical endeavor. Very few activities can match the required combination of disciplines needed... Ummmmm, what about Chess-Boxing?
These guys set the stage on fire the other night in Lancaster, Pennsylvania at the Roots and Blues Festival. What a treat it was to see them live!
Im surprised that fiddle doesn't catch on fire!!! What a great sounding band!

We were there. It was mind blowing! He was incredible this year as well. Made is well worth it to sit out in the chilly misty rain.

Wow you heard all of that. Cool.
Sampling at its finest! Nicky Sanders is the GOAT.
What is right after Beach Boys (6:57-7:00)? Maybe from a sci-fi film?
7:30 theme from Dragnet

Saw them do this last night at CityFolk Festival in Ottawa, Canada. They tore the place down, amazing band.
+Mike McCann, Brilliant set indeed, hope they come back soon
Watched them last night close with this song, Nicky is amazing on that fiddle
That was stunning
I shared an elevator with the fiddle player before I knew who he was. Nicest guy you'll ever meet.
