As someone who is currently switching their major from nursing to OTA, this video was literally so amazing to find! I had no idea OT/OTA were even a thing because nobody talks about them! I feel so lucky to have found you and this valuable information, thank you so much for sharing.
Occupational therapy is an awesome career. I’m always asking the therapists if they like their job and no one has ever told me they didn’t like it. Very rewarding.
Wow, this is just what I needed! Two majors I was looking at! I'm going back and forth between nursing and OTA school ! I have to figure out which is better for me and what my abilitiy to pursue a good career that maches my personality and personal well being 😮
It’s so hard to find enough of these type of contents. I find it so interesting how in the US They separate OTA and PTA program. I live in Canada so the program is actually OTA/PTA = rehabilitation therapy. Which I find it’s so much of a branch out. But what took me by surprises is the final text you have to take to be licence in the career. Wow honestly thanks for the content that’s really nice and seeing the different in US and CAN.
I am truly interested in seeking OTA; however, I would be going back as an older adult (40’s) and am wondering if it’s possible going at a later age. I do believe I can do it but it is a little nerve wracking - this was an amazing video ! Thank you !
Great video! You girls answered a bunch of the questions I’ve been having about OTA, but haven’t been able to find any of the answers to. Thanks so much for sharing. Great luck with both of your endeavors!
Do your ATI TEAS Exam soonest possible but first use "Smart Edition Academy" and use their Entire Course @and Questions for like 2months to help you prepare for the TEAS. Most Colleges require a minimum of over 65-70% pass... And if you Study & do well in the smart edition tests - aim at 80% and above) YOU WILL 4 SURE PASS...
Hello! I've been watching your videos for a while now before I had started my OTA program. Now I'm about to start my third semester of the program in a couple weeks! Applying to OTA school was the best decision I've made for myself. I love your content and I'm always excited when you upload new videos about your career. Would love to receive some support from your channel as well
Hi! Your schedule will depend on your setting, lifestyle, availability, just like other jobs. If you work in schools, you have school hours - if you work in a hospital, you may work three 12 hour shifts - if you work in a SNF, you can pretty much work any hours in a day, as long as you get your patients seen. Thank you for watching!
NO! This was a huge plus for me when choosing this career. There is some simple math, but nothing crazy and definitely nothing you have to use everyday.
Actually, yes there is. You have to do a lot of cognitive tests on patients which means you have to be good at mental math yourself. You also need to be able to calculate your hours in regards to billable hours and a lot of other factors. Do yes, math is needed. Is it calculus? No
Hi! Im a recent high school grad considering OTA or PTA as a career path. I'm someone who likes jobs where I can be trusted to do my job without constant supervision. Would you say that you are "micromanaged" in your field of work? I dont mind being supervised, Ive just read that PTAs are micromanaged and I wondered if thats at all true for OTAs. Thanks!
I have never experienced being micromanaged during my career. I feel this will vary greatly based on your setting, your management, and your performance.
Hi, im also interested in the becoming am Ota bit kept being told that there are changes to health care system with payment etc. Also that its hard to find fulltime work. Is that true or false? Whats your experience.
Hi there! There will always be changes in the health care system. It is not an easy field, but it’s necessary. Finding a position will highly depend on your location, just like with any other career. If you live in/near a larger populated area, more jobs will be available. If you live in a more rural area, less jobs will be available. I have not had the experience have difficulty finding a full time position. It seems that most companies either want full time or PRN (as needed). Hope this helps!! Thank you for watching! ❤️
Hi! Unfortunately, I am unable to speak to a pay number. The pay varies so much from state to state, location, and setting. I suggest reaching out to your instructors or local OT professors to get their advice. Thanks for watching!
I would like to go to college and become an OTA, but I don't have money I was tell if my husband makes more than 80k the government is not going to help me. I have to little kids and my husband covers everything at home with his paycheck, but it doesn't reach for my college.
Paying for college is definitely difficult! They great thing about an OTA degree is that it is an associate’s degree, so the cost is much less, but nevertheless, money is money no matter how much. Explore scholarship options, grants, and financial assistance from the school. ❤️
Oh my God that's the nicest ending I've ever ever heard. God bless you thank you for saying that: " You are loved 😍 your feelings are valid, and you deserve to take up space 🌌 in this world! 🙌🏼🍃💋 🌎 ❣️ 🌍 ✊🏼 ❣️🏡🦋🐸🌱💛💖 ✨🤍⭐🦜🐦🌠☄️🌙🐝🌻🕊️🙌🏼 👑🐝🌻🕊️🙌🏼🍃 That's 🌙✨ so amazing that you ended it on such a positive motivational note. I’m sorry that this is your experience!! School is difficult, but so so worth it. You have to find a great workplace in a setting that you love. Personally, my pay is great, my job is fun, and I advocate for myself as a therapist and person to ensure that I am not a pushover. I hope your experience improves!
Interesting thought! Occupational Therapy practitioners are in fact, not counselors. The curriculum does cover mental health as it affects daily life function. OT practitioners can teach coping skills, emotional regulation, self-care skills, etc. OT practitioners exists to help people live to the fullest of their ability, whatever that means for them! 💗

is math required for OTA? Because I’m bad at math 😢, but I really want to help other people with they lives

I’m scared about getting admitted into the program. Is it really hard? The school here only takes 18 students and I’m worried I’m just wasting my time

I start OT this August!
Can you go into Pediatric OTA right after grad school?
Yes! I did! Pediatric positions are typically harder to come by, but if you network, you will find connections. 💗
Do you have to wipe body parts of poop or pee or carry anyone ? Any injuries from OTA?
In pediatrics, definitely! Kids are icky but they’re so fun!
What would you say is the lowest minimum pay you should accept as a COTA new graduate? I’m in Texas btw
Hi! Unfortunately, I am unable to speak to a pay number. The pay varies so much from state to state, location, and setting. I suggest reaching out to your instructors or local OT professors to get their advice. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for this video, I’m highly considering becoming an OTA and switching from my current field.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!! ❤️❤️
What OTA school did you go through and 🎓 graduate from?
Wallace State Community College in Cullman, AL
Ota school is HARD and the end rewards are horrible. Horrible pay, horrible stress, it's not worth it unless you like being a pushover as a therapist.
I’m sorry that this is your experience!! School is difficult, but so so worth it. You have to find a great workplace in a setting that you love. O.T.s are horrible counsellors and i do not know why theyre allowed to do this? Their curriculum doesnt have strict psychotheraphy components!!!!
