Big thanks to both techs Darian Polach & Gabe Monnot for carving out some time for the Rundown AFTER we had to go inside the stadium to wait out a thunderstorm warning/lightning protocol - some heroes don't wear capes and these gentlemen rule! Great job, dude! A little bummed that we didn’t get to see Billie’s gear. I know you said his rig hasn’t changed much, but Billie has picked up a few cool guitars out on tour. Saw them at Fenway last month (amazing show btw) and Billie had a bunch of new guitars. Judging by his instagram, he’s developed a nasty case of GAS on this tour 😂 Keep up the great work, Chris!
Thanks Chris and Premier Guitar for doing this with the band again! UPDATE: Hans himself confirmed EXACTLY what PG said-no real changes to the rig itself except for the speakers, the iso cab boxes, and a few different P-90 brands. He’s also mentioned before that it’s basically been the same other than the changes below since either 21CB or AI, and that was mainly technical switching/power amp stuff for the cab backline AFAIK. There’s a rig diagram from AI that shows the setup out there if you care to see the changes, but it’s basically the same amp base as well. ALSO, the signature Marshall will be released (he mentioned “It’s Marshall Month” haha). Maybe by the end of September (would be fitting 😅)? Just FYI for folks, but Hans (Billie’s tech) posts frequent gear updates and insights into their tours. The main changes he’s mentioned in the comments are that they’re running 1960B cabs with G12T-75s (rather than V30s) in iso boxes and using a variety of pickups in the P-90 guitars. Same modded Marshalls run in parallel for distortion and definition, same lead boost (BD-2 that’s used for cutting through on solos), and basically the same switching/technical details in the 2013 episode. Guitars are obviously a bit different, but it’s basically all the same type (P-90s and humbucker substitutes for Blue) Also, shameless plug, but you can also check out Green Day Guitar Gear and Green Day Guitars for more gear interviews and magazine scans. The gum was annoying but it's been 11 years, let it go. And the way PG buried the tech not letting them see it in the comments is kinda shitty.
To be honest he was the unprofessional one chewing the fuckin gum in the first place. Were the gum comments over the last 11 years unwarranted? ehh. But to say 90% of the rig is the same when eagle eyed people (in these comments nonetheless) have notice changes is a straight up lie. Im guessing they said so only due to maybe getting Billie Joe on himself (with no Hans hopefully) in the future for a more length one on one or to keep PG from being PNG'd from Green Day access for press altogether.
I mean, he is 'another bass player from the bay,' right? If my tone insinuated disinterest or ignorance to Matt Freeman's prowess or influence, wait for the Rundown I hosted with him ...
