12) A friend of mine told me about their now-16yo cousin who is trans. The parents had suspected it for a few years from the time they were VERY young, and when they were 8-9 the parents gently asked them, "Do you feel like you're a boy trapped in a girl's body?" He immediately yelled "YES!!!!" like it was the biggest relief in the _world_ that somebody understood what he was feeling and was able to put it into words for him. His parents have been incredibly supportive ever since, first letting him make the social transitions he wanted to make in his hair and clothes before making sure they got him into a good therapist to be formally diagnosed with gender dysphoria to open the medical doors that needed to be opened for him. They even moved to the other side of the state to get him to a more "accepting" city where he would be safer and happier. He's _thriving_ now, and I find that _unspeakably_ wholesome.
so sad that "Do you feel like you're a boy trapped in a girl's body?" is how parents, school, even the supposedly gay community nowadays have been indoctrinating gay children to understand themselves. Trans the gay away is the new pray the gay away. Cant believe the liberals have unwittingly practice gay conversion therapy on gays under the pretenses of supporting trans rights.
When I told my dad that I was lesbian he said “cool! So I don’t need to worry about guys sneaking in the house!” And then he remembered that my sister is straight 😂
"... but you get to exhale now, Simon" will forever and ALWAYS hit me! As a gay man, or any Queer person will know, that statement cannot really be described by someone who has never had to "come out"! SUCH a great movie and powerful line!
Happy Pride Month, everyone! I always tear up when Simon comes out to his parents, and the emotional talks he has with each of them later. Also, I love that hysterical imagination sequence in which all of Simon's pals come out as straight! 😂
Jennifer Garner + Josh Duhamel in Love, Simon are the parents we wish we had when we came out. So many touching moments in that film, that truly made me feel heard... when I wasnt at the time. Love this list Ms.Mojo!!!! ❤
0:35 Edge of Seventeen : Eric’s coming out to his mother 2:26 Alex Strangelove: Alex’s coming out to Claire 3:29 Latter Days 4:36 But I’m a cheerleader: Megan’s coming out to True Direction and to herself 5:23 Pariah: Alike’s coming out to her parents 6:30 Cowboys: Joe’s coming out to his dad 7:33 Prayers for Bobby: Bobby’s coming out to his brother Ed 8:42 Beautiful Things: Jamie’s coming out to his crush 9:33 ParaNorman : Mitch mentions his boyfriend 10:23 In and out: Howard’s coming out during his wedding 11:29 Far from Heaven: Frank’s coming out to his wife 12:43 My Own Private Idaho: Mike professes his love for Scott 13:54 Kissing Jessica Stein: Jessica’s coming out to her mother 14:53 Boy Erased: Jared’s coming out to his parents 16:08 Love, Simon: Simon’s coming out to his friend Abby 17:18 Blockers: Sam’s coming out to her father 18:29 Beginners: Hal’s coming out to his son Oliver 19:17 Moonlight: Kevin and Chiron kiss on the beach 20:19 Love, Simon: Simon’s coming out to his parents
God speaks of unconditional love. That’s the problem with a lot of Christians nowadays. I’m glad that you truly know what your God wants and expects of you.
I think my favourite coming out scene isn't an official traditional coming out scene, but I love when Elio and his father speak together towards the end of Call Me By Your Name. Nothing official needed to be said but his father knew and his father was caring and tender towards Elio's feelings and validated what was even confusing and painful for Elio at times. Not to mention the monologue he gives Elio is ABSOLUTELY incredible!
One of my favorite moments in The Owl House (2020-2023) is when Luz Noceda ""Comes out" to Eda and King that's she have feeling for Amity. The other moments is when Luz presents her video on her laptop to her mom, Camilla, to let her know that's she is bisexual and introduced her to her girlfriend, Amity. The Owl House(2020-2023) is one of my favorite LGBTQ Representative series. 🏳️🌈🌈 I really enjoyed watching this video. 🌈🏳️🌈
Happy Pride Month!!! I remember watching Love, Simon with a couple of friends almost two years ago. Just the emotions from his parents and friends after coming out fully really gave me ALL. THE. FEELS. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
These lists never fail to have me in puddles. It is so nice to follow a channel that recognizes these scenes, not only in June, but the rest of the year.❤❤❤❤❤
The lead from Alex Strangelove, Daniel Doheny, was a classmate of mine at high school in Vancouver BC. Seeing him do this role filled me with so much pride (pun unintended) because it was amazing to see how far he had come as an actor.
I am so glad that you included In and Out. I love this movie and watch it often. I am straight, but I love the storyline of this movie, the fact that others were suspicious of Howard but he didn't realise it himself.....until his wedding. Great movie with a great cast and wonderful script.
MsMojo, I’ve always enjoyed watching your videos because you and the channel have ALWAYS been supportive of our community. Thank you so much for being so good to us.
My favourite coming out scene is in the film 'Pride' where Bill Nighy and Imelda Staunton are sat making sandwiches in South Wales for striking miners during their strike in 1984 and he very sheepishly comes out to her. Her response is just a very simple, " I know. " and then he goes on to ask her how long she's known and she replies, " Well, I don't know about anyone else but I've known since about 1969. " and he just looks at her with amazement in his eyes and they continue doing what they're doing. It's a classic and very subtle way for anyone to come out to anyone else especially with the timescale involved and it shows that friendship and support is there in the most unlikely and surprising places, doesn't i? The film 'Pride' itself is one of my favourites and especially worth a watch for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's especially relevant this month in the U.S.A. with it being their 'Pride Month' although here in the U.K. we don't celebrate it here in the month of June - it's far too restrictive for us to do that especially when you consider that we have different Pride parades throughout the summer months and the celebrations are ongoing really. It's just too bad that people can't be like that all year round, isn't it? 👍😁👍🏳🌈🏳⚧🇬🇧
One of my dear friends asked me for support and being there when he came out to his parents. I wholeheartedly said yes. To show love and support is the greatest gift to every person.
Honestly yeah Simon’s coming out moment was great. I just wish I could say the same for his first kiss with Bram, because it was waaaay better in the book. I still love the movie so much because of how relatable it is and how real it portrays the internal struggle of sexuality can be, despite having the most amazing family who you know would accept you. I cry every time I see it 😭😭😭 I wish my family had been accepting of me, and even 5 years later they still can’t say my name or use the right pronouns. Some people really don’t know how blessed and lucky they are to have supportive family and friends.
Happy Pride Month. Watching "Kissing Jessica Stein" and the titular scene with Tovah Feldshuh, makes me cry every time. Tovah brings such bravery and strength and love for her daughter, ugh! crying again!!!
Great selection of scenes. Latter Days and Love, Simon get me every time. The series Heartstopper has a few coming out scenes, but when Nick comes out to his mom that he's Bi, is one of my favorites. In the movie SAVED! when Dean comes out to Mary while they're underwater in the pool, is a good one too. I love that a lot of movies/shows have LGBTQ representation, just wish these were available when I was a wee lad in the 70s.
Those three Love, Simon moments were just everything. The one with his Mom wasn't even part of the script. But Jennifer who played his Mom insisted they have am moment and I "think" she even wrote the scene. Word has it it got all those on set really emotional. How did you miss the Love Victor moments? So many shows out there to pick.
That scene -- THAT ONE scene -- where Simon's mother tells him he can finally exhale and "be more YOU than you've been in a very long time" is the very zenith of possible reactions a parent can have to a child's coming out. It is an extraordinary scene, and it might never be surpassed in film. In the theaters where I saw "Love, Simon" (yes, more than.once), you could hear a pin drop during that scene. The audience was starkly quiet, holding its breath, until after the scene was over when people started weeping. I will never forget it.
Happy Pride! It's interesting watching this and reflecting on the 90s. At the time, it felt like homosexuality was so hidden that we had to seek out gay cinema, but looking back, we had such great gems and so many of them; like many mentioned in this video. A few not mentioned that I enjoyed were Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss, All Over Me, Better Than Chocolate, The Crying Game, Stonewall, Relax... It's Just Sex, Jeffrey, and Get Real. Two more recent great examples are The Inspection and Spoiler Alert.
I came out to my father as a lesbian at 13yrs old, It was hard and confusing for me as i went through many labels trying to find who i was, I told him over text at school and waited what felt like forever for his response, Making my cry in the middle of science knowing my father knew and loved me no matter what, Getting the support no matter who from feels so warm. sweet and amazing, Take you're time you will get through it!!!
10 always gets me, since it was inspired by a real event: Tom Hanks thanked two of his teachers when he won the Oscar for "Philadelphia" and one of them was open but not fully public, and Paul Rudnick then had the idea "What if...?" Even with its quirks, it's still a wonderfully fun movie to watch.
Wow, you have created the best list of LGBTQ coming out movies I’ve ever seen. You included many of my all-time favorite movies with LGBTQ characters. I was especially pleased that you included the original “Edge of Seventeen” film. It angers me that another, more recent movie, stole that name. “Edge” really sets the template for many other high school coming out movies. “Alex Strangelove,” for instance, contains some similar plot threads.
That's how it would be if the parents didn't go to their churches, temples, synagogues and mosques and hear the pastors, priests, rabbis and imams tell them to hate their children.
This list is showing me that I need to expand my range of movies I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing these and giving me a good list to starting looking for on Prime and Netflix😊
* edge of 17: one of the first gay movies i saw as a teenager. * make the yuletide gay: beautiful movie. i wish they had raised the money to make the sequel. * latter days * prayers for bobby: based on a 1995 non-fiction book. i was so happy when it finally became a movie. bobby's story needed to be told. RIP Bobby. * beautiful thing: one of the first gay movies i saw as a teenager. i loved that it had a happy ending. * love simon: a beautiful movie
Wow! Love, Simon again for #1. Good lord! I was expecting Pedro Peña from Shazam Fury of The Gods would be on this list. Jesus! But no honorable mentions to add it.
Alex Strangelove was _such_ an unexpectedly excellent movie. One of the best gay movies I've ever seen (... this side of Shelter, that is) --- really interesting twist on the genre
I went in a date with a guy I was really into. We went to see Love, Simon and I remember thinking how much I wished we had a movie like this when I was 17 and questioning my sexuality.
Gray Matters will always hold a special place in my heart. The movie itself is a coming out story with Gray coming to terms with being a lesbian. And Alan Cumming was incredible to boot.
Unfortunately I still have this ordeal to face at some point with my parents. Oddly regretting not doing it a lot earlier. Dreading doing it in the future. Realised I was gay at age 12 or 13, denied it and tried to make myself straight until I was 18, and throughout the years have hated myself since. So many people have asked me over the years if im gay including my parents but I closed those doors. I have many friends that know and many who don't. And a couple of friends I told, who completely forgot 😂 😂 But the thought of telling my parents is a daily fear that haunts me every day at age 24
I'm so sorry for the emotional struggle you are going through. First of all, take a few deep breaths to calm yourself, and then realize that you don't EVER need to come out to your parents if you don't want to. If it pains you to even contemplate doing so, then don't do it. They -- nor anyone else -- have any "right" to know this personal information about you. It is a privilege to share such deeply personal information with another. Next, consider if it is possible that they already know. Maybe someone else who knows this information about you shared it with them. Or maybe they just have "always known" since you were a child; you said your parents have directly asked you the question before. Maybe they've been waiting for you to tell them when you are ready. Ask yourself WHY you are hesitant to reveal this part of your life to them. Do you fear they will reject you? Do you fear that your relationship with them will change irrevocably once they know this information? Those are the 2 main reasons, but there are others. Ultimately, a person "comes out" for one's OWN reasons, not because the recipient has any "right" to know it or any "need" to know it. Ultimately (unless you are outed), it is your decision to make whether (and with whom) you want to share this personal information. Or not.
Wish my gay friends in highschool in the 1980's could have come out. One friend got married to a woman and on his own accord went through" conversion therapy " 0:38
My friend came out to me before she came out to her parents. I was happy for her honesty, but heart broken she couldn't tell her parents. After she moved in with her girlfriend. She came out to them. They told her she was dead to them. They called me pissed that I kept that secret. I laughed at them. I said "Now that she is an adult and doesn't need you. She can be happy. Shame on you both." Years later her mother came around and is part of her life, Afer her husband died. I'm thinking the father was the source of the homophobia.
My favorite is probably "Madea Homecoming", where the whole movie, the son graduating is afraid about coming out to his family and when he finally comes out, Madea says that all of them knew since he was a kid and were waiting for him to tell them when he was ready(with the bigger controversy being something with his mom instead).
I think i've seen three of these movies and can agree with Kissing Jessica Stein. Gets me every time. Tovah Feldshuh performed that scene to perfection.
One of the funniest coming-out scenes is in a mostly bad movie (Oy Vey! My Son Is Gay..free on Tubi) when Jewish Nelson (John Lloyd Young) comes out to his parents at a cousin’s wedding. The look on his non-Jewish partner’s face (Jai Rodriguez) when Nelson’s mother (Laine Kazan) finally realizes what her son is trying to tell her is hilarious and priceless.
Oh I agree! Olivia Coleman as his mother was absolutely extraordinary (as she is in everything she does). It brings you to tears. In fact, Nick's coming out speech to her was so dramatically moving that Olivia herself broke down into tears several times during rehearsals -- which you can see in outtakes on UA-cam.
Even though it was an outing, my fave was in DROP DEAD GORGEOUS when Lisa (Brittany Murphy) tells her dad: "You know what dad, Peter's gay (silence)....GAAAAY!!!"😂😂😂

Definitely Jessica Stein
The coming out scene in Get Real when the main character comes out at his assembly 😭😭😭
I really like the how all of fucking åmål , or showme love as it called aboard dealt with it, like not a big deal.
“Fourth Man Out”. Quickly, very funny and moving film of a young man who comes out to his best friends and their reactions.
You need a list for Tv shows as well,
(Robyn from Stranger things, Hawkins from Scream, Luz from Owl house etc)

I'm a lesbian. A big one.
I love that film!
Love first wives club 😂😂😂
Such a classic line in that movie
you've made it into the top 20 coming out comments hehe
SAME💗💗
Prayers for Bobby was so heartbreaking. It was one of those movies where the parent realizes their mistake far too late.
Yes I sob every time I watch. To know it’s based on a true story makes it that much more heartbreaking
I’ll never watch it it’s too depressing
@@lauralockman8472 it’s definitely not for the faint of heart ☹️
I think Prayers for Bobby, is a movie that every parent of a LGBTQ child should be forced to watch!
The book Prayers for Bobby" is a even harder to read. I cried so much from the book
When I told my dad that I was lesbian he said “cool! So I don’t need to worry about guys sneaking in the house!” And then he remembered that my sister is straight 😂
Honestly, the best reaction I've ever seen. 🤣🤣
My dad told me that we have another thing in common now 😅😂🥰
My dad was the same then my sister came out as airoace so he was like oh my gosh yes
but for a split second he was like YUSS A WIN lmao
"... but you get to exhale now, Simon" will forever and ALWAYS hit me! As a gay man, or any Queer person will know, that statement cannot really be described by someone who has never had to "come out"! SUCH a great movie and powerful line!

Same. It's been a while since I watched that movie.
which is ironic because in the sequel book "leah on the off beat", leah and abby get together so they're both not straight either:)
Jennifer Garner + Josh Duhamel in Love, Simon are the parents we wish we had when we came out. So many touching moments in that film, that truly made me feel heard... when I wasnt at the time. Love this list Ms.Mojo!!!! ❤

I wouldn't be surprised if Camila had a hunch Luz was bisexual.
Happy Pride Month! _Love, Simon_ is the coming out movie. It's surprisingly realistic and the character development is absolutely perfect.
I've lost track of how many times I watched the movie. Too many good scenes to pick just one. Also go into the spin off as it were with Love, Victor.
Agree, I felt than Bram's coming out moment should have been on this list too
Happy Pride Month!!! I remember watching Love, Simon with a couple of friends almost two years ago. Just the emotions from his parents and friends after coming out fully really gave me ALL. THE. FEELS. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

love this list, except for one thing... WHAT ABOUT NICK COMING OUT TO HIS MOM IN HEARTSTOPPER?? That deserves top ten at least
that’s not a movie
I think there should be a separate episode for TV coming out moments. There are some great ones.
Sigourney weaver was brilliant in that movie. Her “Children are listening,” speech is a quote and brilliant.
The look on Megan's face before coming out is hilarious
Those three Love, Simon moments were just everything. The one with his Mom wasn't even part of the script. But Jennifer who played his Mom insisted they have am moment and I "think" she even wrote the scene. Word has it it got all those on set really emotional. How did you miss the Love Victor moments? So many shows out there to pick.
That scene -- THAT ONE scene -- where Simon's mother tells him he can finally exhale and "be more YOU than you've been in a very long time" is the very zenith of possible reactions a parent can have to a child's coming out. 😢😢😢😢 so hard watching many of these scenes. Coming out is a hard process, especially to parents. Brings back memories.
I Hope your better now
Parents should always love their kids as much as they did when they were born regardless of who their kids love
That's how it would be if the parents didn't go to their churches, temples, synagogues and mosques and hear the pastors, priests, rabbis and imams tell them to hate their children.
Prayers For Bobby makes me cry every time I watch it 😭
The best words out of a parent of closeted children or teens are "I love you just the way you are
I would also include Patrick coming out to his parents in Schitt's Creek....so wonderful.
Something about a parent who clearly and admittedly doesn't understand, but still accepts and loves is the most wholesome.
cried watching prayers for bobby
So many out of the closet teens commit suicide because their parents don't support them. That's heartbreaking 💔💔💔
You forgot one in my book. It was in "Get Real" were Stephen Carter comes out to his school and parents at the same time.
Isak coming out to Jonas in SKAM (Norway) Season 3 is easily one of the best coming out scenes!
Any countdown with Love Simon at Number 1 is a good countdown :)
Thank you for calling out Quaid's massive Oscar snub.
This list is showing me that I need to expand my range of movies I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing these and giving me a good list to starting looking for on Prime and Netflix😊
4:55 that’s Dante Basco, Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender
* edge of 17: one of the first gay movies i saw as a teenager.
* make the yuletide gay: beautiful movie. i wish they had raised the money to make the sequel.
* latter days
* prayers for bobby: based on a 1995 non-fiction book. i was so happy when it finally became a movie. bobby's story needed to be told.
Thanks for amazing video ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I went in a date with a guy I was really into. We went to see Love, Simon and I remember thinking how much I wished we had a movie like this when I was 17 and questioning my sexuality.
I hope the date and relationship worked out.... 😊👍🌈
@@markmh835 alas it didn't. But that just means it wasn't meant to be.
Oh my God! The guy who voiced Zuko was in But I’m a cheerleader
I think Red White and Royal Blue belongs on this list
This list was made before rwrb was released
@@josefmelech617 okay so the list has now become outdated
Nick coming out on heartstopper is the best
And a couple of friends I told, who completely forgot 😂 😂
But the thought of telling my parents is a daily fear that haunts me every day at age 24
I know pride month is over but still, don't let anyone tell you what you should be, love who you love. 🏳️🌈
I can’t believe Another Gay Movie wasn’t on the list. When Nico comes out to his mom and she seems upset but then turns to him and says DUH!
Prayers for Bobby was so devastating, emotionally crushed me. The real guy behind the story deserved so much better.
I'm sorry, but for me nothing beats Janis Ian in Mean Girls. How she just outs herself before Regina can do it.
How could "Make The Yuletide Gay" not be #1? It's like seriously the greatest comedic coming out.
But I’m a Cheerleader is my favorite movie
I’m obsessed
I've watched Make the Yuletide Gay every christmas since it came out in dvd😅 fantastic movie
Make the Yuletide Gay is easily one of my favorite coming out scenes from any movie. I just love Mama Gunnunderson!!!!!!!!
Love, Simon is my favorite movie thanks.
I think i've seen three of these movies and can agree with Kissing Jessica Stein. Gets me every time. Tovah Feldshuh performed that scene to perfection.
"Beautiful Thing" is one of my all time favs
I love In and Out, it is so good!
Missed two.
Kurt Hummel coming out in GLEE.
The coming out scene in Not Another Gay Movie that parodies the coming out scene in Edge of Seventeen.
I came out to my mom at the movie thearer watching love simon. This movie has a special place in my heart
The speech Simon's mom gives always makes me cry
The coming out scene in "Love's Coming" is fantastic!
Yup, I'm crying now.
Omg I love this when I came out my mom was proud of me all tho my dad did not feel the same way but I’m glad it’s working out for y’all🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I totally agree with the Love Simon clips but I would say Nick Nelson’s coming out should be on here
Even though it was an outing, my fave was in DROP DEAD GORGEOUS when Lisa (Brittany Murphy) tells her dad:
"You know what dad, Peter's gay (silence)....GAAAAY!!!"😂😂😂
Happy Pride Month!
