I'm shocked Wingspan is so dominant. I've played it a few times and thought it was fine. Never really appealed to me as a game I'd want to play over and over.
I had a similar experience. I suppose it's an easy family game to get to the table, somewhat short, and got a ton of awards meaning lots of people own a copy.
Some of my favorites showed up and made it to the Top pretty early. Agricola, Dominion, 7 Wonders, original and Duel. Plus some others that didnt make it to the top but are still good like, Lost Ruins of Arnak, Citadels, and Suburbia.
My conclusion? I still hate Ark Nova! Yaaark! But I looove Wingspan and no video will ever make me change! "We all spend our lives in far away galaxies" used to say my father! LOL
Think I played about 30% of them. Boardgame night at work (at the videogame dev I worked at) was always my favorite night. I miss those times. The one I missed out on that I always wanted to try was Root. Then of course there's all the games our group loved that didn't make it onto this list at all * Clank! * Lord of the Rings The Confrontation * Arkham Horror Card Game (Arkham Horror (non-card) is kinda up there too, but admittedly is an overcomplicated mess that I mostly just like for aesthetic reasons.) * Innovations * Terra Mystica * Tzolkin * Mechs vs Minions * XCOM * Dead of Winter (though it's largely like Arkham where it's an overcomplicated, slow slog enjoyed mostly for the aesthetic) * Splendor (honestly a bit surprised this one didn't make the list in the 1-2 years after its launch; it's definitely better than a few of those games like Lords of Waterdeep)
Loved game nights at work! And you've got some cool titles there. Some of them are under the thematic family on BGG and wouldn't show up on this list. Will do a list for thematic games as well.
Watching this video pretty much consisted of me saying, "Yup, that tracks," or "Yeah, I remember that" every time a game jumped to the top XD
Sounds like you've been in the hobby for a while. Have fun playing!

Terra Mystica and Tzolkin both made it on there. I think Clank! Showed up for a brief second too.

Is 40k considered wargame?
That is why it is not here?
Most Warhammer games fall under the Thematic ranks. It's a bit weird how games are classified on BGG. But keep in mind these are tabletop games.
