Mandela Catalog is my favorite example of cosmic horror. It doesn’t have a typical cosmic horror aesthetic but it has the core themes of that subgenre (a vast incomprehensible horror and existential hopelessness) front and center.

God as He is typically depicted doesn’t quite fit the bill as God is usually depicted as good, but a hostile and malevolent god with all the Abrahamic God’s power would be cosmic horror. Normally religious horror has at least the implication of a benevolent higher power (usually God), but if a loving god exists in Mandela Catalog, He’s not in control. The alternates are demons but without the light of God to drive them back, so humanity is, to use the technical term, fucked. *That* is the core of cosmic horror
