Fun fact: Martin Lawrence never harassed Tisha Campbell. It was Tisha Campbell‘s husband that wanted to be on the show, Martin Lawrence wasn’t having it. Her husband made a ultimatum with her and made her leave the show but she was on contract only way you can get out is through filing a “claim”.
Her husband had an influence for sure, but Martin admitted to doing some of those things to Tisha, like trying to stick his tongue way down her throat.
For a BDP it was pretty strong. It woulda done well as a show. But I guess everything happens for a reason cause in 2yrs we ended up getting Jenna as Stevie on The Parkers, which is one of my all time favorite sitcoms

I hate that this happened to everyone on Martin. I understand that there will always be bad problems when it comes to jobs. What keeps me going is that it’s only temporary and I know God’s promise to me is that he will never allow me to go through anything I can’t bare. Plus this tests my strength in bad situations and how to handle them in a professional manner. Sometimes leaving is required and sometimes a lawsuit is required. Sometimes you can talk it out and the problems are gone. It’s never easy either way. I will always remember the good times about Martin because they kept me on the floor and always happy. Them and in living color. Thank you to the cast and to the staff behind the scenes. This show will never ever ever be replaced by no other no matter how hard they try. RIP Tommy.

A backdoor spin off? Never heard of that until now, but it makes sense for an established show to do that for a potential new show. It's cheaper. The network pays for the 'pilot' and fans are none the wiser. I wonder how many of these 'backdoor shows' snuck past me in my formative years. I remember how devastated I was when I found out celebrities didn't just drop by night time talk shows to visit the host. They were only there to promote a new show or movie. It was never as innocent and friendly as it seemed.
OH, that guy who played TONY is SAL from the 1980's NIGHT OF THE DEMONS. Its before my time, but I love horror movies..and he was one of my favorite characters.

I get it, hindsight is 20/20...but I think the spinoff could have worked with some minor tweaks. Get rid of Trey and Tony, make Dante (Tyrese) a regular, and maybe add another female character. I'd keep the backdoor pilot exactly as is, and the first episode of the actual spinoff about the changes I mentioned.
FINALLY! Someone who knows that the phrase is spelled “could have” and not “could of.” I got so excited when I saw correct grammar that I just had to comment lol. Ok, carry on….
Heh, I remember Pam's backdoor pilot. It was pretty funny, but I can think of a couple of possible reasons why her show was never greenlit: - As entertaining as the pilot was, it always seemed too derivative of Martin itself, at least to me (Pam was acting almost exactly like a female Martin most of the time by that point). While it was probably one of the better episodes of Season 5, Martin itself was in decline, and after ending the show, maybe Fox didn't want a show so much like it to follow it up. - The late '90's were also around the time the networks were starting to cater more to age demographics than race demographics. Black shows were getting canceled left and right by then (In Living Color, Living, Single, and New York Undercover were canceled in the same period as Martin), and very few black shows that came out after that were given a shot to last more than a couple seasons unless they were on the WB or UPN. With TV catering more to age demographics by the 2000's, most shows with mostly minority casts were "frozen out" of TV lineups for years afterward.
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? Definitely not. Different dynamic completely and GG had no men in the cast just regular guest appearances by Stan, etc.
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? Not sure it is a copy, more like an inspired by. And Pam didn't live with the other 3 women, she had her own place.
Mistake 1: Martin was 1 of the best sitcoms. No, it was the best sitcom! Mistake 2: It failed because you don’t fix what’s not broken! #Classic 25+ years later this show is as funny and versatile as it gets! And it’s still relevant!
I get what you’re saying but that’s not the point of spin-offs. They create spin-offs because they believe there’s a supporting character strong enough to carry their own show. Plus by the time they shot that episode, the show was already preparing for cancellation at that point anyway so we wouldn’t have had a Martin show during the 1997-98 run regardless, so it would’ve been perfect timing since we wouldn’t have to worry about having a Martin show with no Pam.

I just love the fact that the reunion is finally coming back after 30 years of waiting. I wished they did it when Tommy was still with us but things happen for a reason. I just wished the girls went forward with their music careers.
They've been having reunions. They were just private get-togethers with cast, crew and loved ones. I met a fellow background extra who was allowed to attend. They let him get a plate of food and meet everyone 😁
I figured something was wrong in season 5 I always wondered why Gina was so absent in the later episodes it was hard to watch Martin always having an excuse for Gina being gone..
I wonder how he felt knowing that it ultimately was his fault?
And they sure made it work didn't they
At times you could see it on his face that he just exhausted from whatever was going in behind the scenes. I remember when his final look back at the apartment and he autographed his name on the wall, man for me that was heart wrenching to watch, it seems he did a lot of crying about it in some episodes his eyes were like poofy and I thought it was damn allergies. I never ever liked Dewayne Martin in anything, damn snake in the grass.
Funny , thing is I've never seen season 5 . Only 1-4 or I just don't remember.
@@TheRmjr she lied on him
That series finale made me so sad. Glad they worked it out. Favorite tv couple.
Martin's Halloween line with Tommy's laugh in the background 🤣🤣. Love this show, have every episode.
Tommy had the best laugh in the world. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
I loved the episodes of one on one that she appeared in as Breanna’s mom she is a great actress with excellent comedic timing which is often overlooked about her.
Duane Martin ruined something good here and tisha had to pay the price which she eventually came to her senses and left him and a spin-off with Pam could of worked for 2 seasons
Besides an extra check it's probably better she didn't get a season flop show.
Now it makes sense on why Pam basically had 2 episodes of her own during the final season…they were setting her up for a spinoff
@dwayne what did Duane do??
@@perrymehta6438 Duane convinced her to file the lawsuit, him and Martin didn't like each other, supposedly because Martin and ticha messed around before she married Duane, I think the show would have come to a end soon regardless though, the lawsuit just made them unable to give the show the ending it deserved
FACTS…that dude was lame
I love how Tichina always took the Swiss approach
"Goin' for Mine" was a backdoor pilot that I wished had gotten a series order. It was my favorite episode of Martin. Everything from the writing to the acting was stellar. The problem was that it aired on FOX. They "changed directions" (targeted white audiences) and got rid of their black programming, like most of the Big Four. I think this series would've done so well on UPN. It would've been up their alley and one of the network's better shows.
Agreed!
That's pretty much what happened.
U can’t be serious if that was ur FAV ever episode of Martin smdh .. that shit was so dry it didn’t even involve martin at all & none of his characters or humor or antics. There was a spinoff? I honestly feel they were going to "flanders" Pam. They were going to make her character over the top and be ridiculously loud and hyper.
Oh no question they were gonna make her the female Martin
Yeah. That's probably what they thought about, and said nope... that's no going to work long term.
That's exactly what they did.
Watch season 5 and how she acts.... she's taking on all of Martin's mannerisms.
they did that for kim Parker in the transition from moesha to the Parkers.. but it worked somehow 🤷🏿♂️🤔
Pam's spin off Going for Mine probably would've worked on UPN. Definitely not Fox.
The show started to decline when martin and gina got married then tisha left. If martin was really sexually harassing her or anything abusive she wouldnt agree to a reunion. Why would you reunite with an abuser even if he apologized. I think her husband Duane Martin was jealous of his wifes succes and the chemistry she had with Martin
Martin and Tisha obviously had a sexual relationship and Tisha probably didn't want to admit guilt so she said Martin sexually harassed her. Because like you said it doesn't make sense they are cool years later once she get a divorce.

They didn't continue with the spin-off because Fox was getting ready to switch up their programming. Like the CW, they were steering away from urban programming.
UPN at the time could've picked up the show, given if they had the budget for it. Around the late 90's that channel was the most well known for urban sitcoms and shows.
@@TheyCallMeSledge They were already loaded with content so I don't think they would've been able to slide it into their lineup. Plus I think they would've had to buy the rights from Fox and they budget wasn't all that great.
Meanwhile Duane Martin was all in these streets wilding out

@@cpvillacis It's was true , Tisha said that she was in abusive. I remember seeing her talk about it on tv before . She had risk her own career.

But Pam has had an AMAZING career❤️❤️
Yeah, Pam (Tichina Arnold) is still going strong. She does that show with Cedric The Entertainer, The Neighborhood.
Yea. She's been in movies since HS.
My first time ever seeing her was on a Cosby Show episode as Justine's friend..
I heard it was all because Tisha Campbell's husband was jealous of Martin and Tisha's relationship on the show seemed so natural that people thought they were a real couple, so he started complaining about it.
I heard that they were actually having an affair and Tisha’s husband gave her an ultimatum.

I hope the martin reunion special gets turned into a series
I use to be down for seeing things from the old come back. And then i made the fatal mistake of watching Coming To America 2. Hell no. Don't bring anything else back ever that's been gone for 20 plus years. The Martin cast would not be funny anymore. And this was my favorite show of all time.

New York Undercover kinda had a backdoor episode within the same show. They introduced the characters joining the special task force led by Thomas Mikal Ford. It was basically like a completely different show with new characters added.
That wasn’t a back door. Just FOX adding white characters to get white viewers that failed miserably even tho I wasn’t totally against it.
Thomas mikal Ford didn't fit in on New York undercover. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
RIP Tommy.
I loved this episode! This is also what put me on to that Stevie song If it’s magic.
That’s messed up how they dropped the series. It would have been dope af. She’s an amazing actress.
I didn’t even know that episode was supposed to be a spin off. Yea was not feeling it then. I loved seeing the original crew together.
That’s literally how half of the shows out got there start. Notably Family Matters and The Jefferson’s were back door spin-offs

I’m so glad I found this video I had no idea they had a spin-off for her. I do understand the stuff about Pam being in the music business
Heh, I remember Pam's backdoor pilot. It was pretty funny, but I can think of a couple of possible reasons why her show was never greenlit:
- As entertaining as the pilot was, it always seemed too derivative of Martin itself, at least to me (Pam was acting almost exactly like a female Martin most of the time by that point).
Yup
Living Single got copied and replaced by Friends in every imaginable and measurable sense of the words, copied and replaced 🤬
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? Definitely not. Different dynamic completely and GG had no men in the cast just regular guest appearances by Stan, etc.
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? never happened
@Why The Hell Was I In Star Trek 6? Not sure it is a copy, more like an inspired by. And Pam didn't live with the other 3 women, she had her own place.
The same thing was about to happen a spin-off series about Sondra Clark (Jackee Harry) in 227.
How the heck am I just finding this amazing channel? I thought I knew a ton about 1980s and 1990s sitcoms, but turns out I don’t know tons!

Same with me and that show Friends. Nobody in my family ever watched it
If she lied there's no way Martin should ever deal with her again.
Right!!!
That's why she lost her lawsuit
Yeah right but you notice in that reunion picture she is next to Carl Payne in Martin is next to Tichina.
Mistake 1: Martin was 1 of the best sitcoms. No, it was the best sitcom!
Mistake 2: It failed because you don’t fix what’s not broken! #Classic
25+ years later this show is as funny and versatile as it gets! And it’s still relevant!
Spin offs don't try to to fix shows. They are just a different show in the same universe. There are a lot of successful spin offs.
For example Different Strokes was not broken but The Facts of Life was still a good show. So I disagree with your take.
Amazing how they kept it together during that hard time and kept it professional..I don’t think that Pam shoe would last long though
Yea kinda knew this with the pam getting a job on the record label..as a spin off..it had that feel..
