    Idk how I came across Wills ig and UA-cam, but it’s been one of the best things I’ve done from a training perspective

      That, and just overall mindset too. Internet has quite literally “saved” me so to speak.

      S n c coach should try all the conditioning and test and strength across from explosive sports to endurance sports so they know what if feels like. Its not just lifting heavy stuff. High IQ over brute strength anyday for any coaches out there!

    9 min for warm ups and all before the giant set? That's awesome. You've definitely inspired to help speed up my reps. I think I'm going to make it a goal to finish to a top set in 15 min
    I've done strength coaching with high school students and I've never played a sport. My goal was always coaching form, technique and quality reps. I also have a foot amputation. I think it's just a knowledge of the basics honestly.
    As usual, good gems.
    And yeah a lot of that weird goofy nonsense is just gate keeping.
    I have friends that are immensely more in tuned with sports than I am, but who would they go to for getting their kids strong as a horse? Me lol.

    What are your thoughts about being able to play the sports that you are coaching? I’m a S&C coach in pro hockey and some of my peers don’t know how to skate

    Do you high bar or low bar squat? It looks like you have the bar on the middle of your traps.

    I also tend to think there's a ton of bullshit in the sports S+C scene. If your athlete can't squat twice their bodyweight, say, then why are you having them do a medley of goofy unilateral and stability exercises for their lower body instead of just building the squat?
    However, what do you think about sports where strength clearly isn't very important like tennis, soccer, basketball, etc.? As long as they aren't just pathetically weak, I feel like those athletes can probably do whatever for their strength work (even Michael Yessis style machine and band focused workouts), and prioritize things like correcting muscle imbalances, strengthening tendons, etc. over actually getting strong.

      We want to create an overall powerful athlete. Lifting with a barbell is just waaaay more efficient.

    • @TheLockon00
      @TheLockon00 Місяць тому

      @@sweatyatoms7719 That is generally how I view S+C. If you want to be strong, prioritize the main barbell lifts far beyond anything else. No other method can get you as strong as efficiently.
      However, if we're being objective, you simply don't need to be very strong to be absolutely elite in the sports listed. In fact, I'd say if you scoured the pro divisions of those sports, you'd struggle to find players we'd even consider lower-level intermediate lifters.
      And if that's the level of strength needed, that can also be obtain with what would otherwise be inferior modalities for strength development. And choosing those modalities in this case might actually be the better option because of their potential superiority in terms of fixing muscle imbalances, preserving joint health, and creating a smaller recovery demand.

    • @TheLockon00
      @TheLockon00 Місяць тому

      @@sweatyatoms7719 I generally agree with that idea. Barbells are by far the best and most efficient modality for developing maximal strength.
      However, if we're being objective, I it's pretty clear that you don't need to be very strong at all to be a high-level athlete in any of the sports I mentioned. In fact, if you scoured the pro divisions in those sports, you'd have a hard time finding many players we'd even consider lower-intermediate lifters.
      That kind of strength can easily be achieved with other modalities, even if the barbell is the best tool for building the highest possible strength. Moreover, some of those modalities can have advantages over barbells in terms of correcting muscle imbalances, preserving joint integrities, and minimizing the recovery burden.
      So, I think there's a good argument that it may be as or more beneficial for those athletes to use modalities other than the barbell.

      @@sweatyatoms7719depends on the sport. The Aussie taekwondo team beat all other countries with all the strength and conditioning testing but lost in the match due to low IQ. Its not just strength, high IQ and psychological make up are just as important! Just ask any top biomechanists who travels the world and consult elite teams of the sports!
