Very good job on the engine and the video this is the first time someone puts the actual dyno numbers on the screen thank you very much this is the way a dyno video is supposed to be made and also no music thank you
This would produce more power with Z20 (W) Short Block w/ Forged stock piston and U60 ported with Rebello cam. The piston wrist-pin is situated different for zero square power plant. The Z24 is too over square to really maximize horsepower turnover. The setup is perfect with the electronic ignition; quite and stealth.
Mechanically, these actually aren't all that different from an SR/FJ - just that these are not a multi-valve. These are a standard motor in a lot of desirable Datsuns, so there is a fair market for people who wanna keep the original engine type in the car but still do serious performance work.
Running a tad rich on the tune too. 12 to 12.5 AFR probably still safe and a bit more power but maybe the en engine liked the richer mixture.. sounds sweet. I've got a GT2860 on my L20b with Z20 rods. Will see what it makes soon on the dyno.
Looking at the dyno graph. Your turbo comes online after 5000rpm and peak torque drops rapidly afterwards. Driving up a mountain road the car will loose speed and power
hi good day here can i get a setup like that for my nissan z18 to buy looking at the old school days of performance for my datsun 720 pickup. Tried the link but not seeing it coming up in the menu
You need a l20b block and the crank from a z24. Even then a ka head converted z24 cranks out those numbers at 5100rpm with 3krpm to go without a turbo. Look up bdka, it's a 2.6l monster
I am so sad that people in my area junked these vehicles for $300 back in the day. I can't buy a running and registered example for less than $4000 nowadays, oh well. I paid $2900 for my d21. Some people made fun of me for paying that much l. Others show up up with 3k cash in hand asking to buy it. Que sera sera?
I might need some help with my engine... There's a miss and I cant figure out why. It's a completely stock l20b. I have new spark wires, new plugs, and I ran seafoam through it.
hks made manifolds for the L4.. i had one..there is also a factory manifold on the diesel version,i have built a few..our first was running 15psi,it flew for such a simple thing..eventually broke the ring lands on the stock cast pistons
@@dattepo7534 early engines have more trouble like early l16s or l18s beacuase of there high compression, it would work better on later engine due to there lower compression. And there are many different heads and pistons you can experiment different combinations and get lower compression for turbo applications. Also you need to gap your pistons rings slightly to avoid ring fusing
@@ryliemidwinter2816 ahh I see I’m running a L20 with a A87 peanut with a street port and 490 isky cams it’s reallly fun but these chargers make me want to go faster with out swapping motors
Man, I cannot imagine 300bhp in my 79 with the l20b. I do love the exhuast note on these engines.
Some people think BIG turbos is the only way, that sounded very tractable, jeez a 300hp Datto is a bloody weapon!!!
I have this same motor, ive been wanting to boost it for quite some time now! finally found someone that did it!
Wow, that's a very flat power curve. Nice turbo selection and tuning. Sounds sweet!

Love that L series sound and miss my l18 turbo.
Those are some serious numbers for a ~40 year old Japanese 4 cylinder.
Indeed.
I can see that turbo going red hot 🔥

That is some good power.
I just finished rebuilding mine today, soon I will build a stroker
nice built !! is a lot of hp for a engine of this age! nice job guys!
Best engine ever built

Oh yes~ a nice power and torque for have fun
Awesome, I straight piped my 910 wagon, got a l18 in mine.
Makes me wanna boost my L28
holding power really good
Wow, hope I'll be able to get my L20 to that once I get it in my 620.
Cool to watch the wastegate actuator move as it builds boost.

Pretty swell numbers for only 17 PSI. Seems like an interesting build to me!
I gotta try this on an old Subaru boxer. That is awesome.
that is nice power out of that engine
Damn that torque
Won't see that much out of my boosted civic until way later haha
Nice. Roll cage. 3 point harness. Lots of other safety measures. I’ve totalled 4 510’s in my life and that’s to much power for the little guy! 😂
nice power from a simple looking package
Great torque!
You should get the rods out of the five 10 Canadian version z-20 6 inch
My wife's Datsun 1600 Roadster needs this engine...
Put the 280z valves in it the SSS had call bullfrog camshaft they got the perfect camp 615 lift z20 Canada 510 je Pistons
its all about the boost.
the iconic LZ20B 4v nissan engine...derived from MB design!!
It's a 2 valve mate😉
Haré el Motor de mi Datsun 521,eso es hermoso 😍
Great project! Where did you take the rpm signal from? Or did you install a fonic wheel somewhere and a ckp??

nice power band like the 300 hp with almost 400 NM ;) @ 1.02 Bar boost
Would like to see this on e85

Very unique and special old scool engine but why not just use a generic sr20, fj20 or 4g63?
To be different from literally anyone else
nice sleeper; -)
I need this for my datsun 620 truck. Where can I order one? Thanks

You won't order one you can build one for quite a few bucks
I wonder what kind of head gasket they installed?
Como consigo un distribuidor como este?
oops, I take that back, did not understand at first.

That looked Like a smal turbo
What fuel was this running? E85? Great build.
says 98 unleaded at the start of the video learn to read.

air filter
Try distributor cap my l24 6 cylinder had the exact same problem around 6900-7100rpm it would miss and cut out now it does 7400 rpm no problem
Nissan 1400 champ Engine
Shame the turbo is all out of idea's at 5000RPM.
Can you build mine ?
131hp per liter
did you find a intake manifold or did you make one?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard "l" series engines can't be turboed
shawno009 do you think you can turbo with out heavy mods in the engine?

НО это же не L20 у него же 6 цилинров !!!!!!!!!!.Это или L18 или L16 так как у них 4 цилиндра.
How much power did this make?? And what's the C/R?
some guy Somename sounds about right
Read bud
B series, not d
sohc thats why.
Sounds like a diesol
