Retro like the rest of us! 😉 Always cheering to see a less than perfect retro experience as it shows it’s not just me that has days of frustration. Had loads of cartridge games on the VIC20 but only two on the C64. Terminator 2 Judgement Day and the original pack-in cartridge with Flimbo’s Quest, International Soccer, Klaxx and Fiendish Freddy (still have the pack-in cart but never used it after the first try… awful selection of games). Le Mans looks cool. Reminds me of the first video console my brother brought home in the 70s. B&W graphics with Pong and Grand Prix which used built in paddle controllers and was top down. That was the game that inspired my love of driving games. Can’t say it’s any representation of Circuit de la Sarthe but I’d happily waste hours on it, especially love the night stage. Actually I love Sarthe having clocked thousands of laps on various sims in various classes. And as a man who has lived a life in IT you should know better than have liquids near computers… Bad Chris! Hope no permanent damage was done to anything. Right I’m off to catch up on the F1 practice... Great video with all the thrills, spills and professional swearing. 🙂
haha thanks for watching as always. Yep it's nice to include the struggles sometimes I think. And I agree, this is a great game and I too like the night stage.
This was one of the pack-in games when we got our Commodore 64 when I was a kid - in fact, this is the first C64 game I ever played. Used to love it... until my younger brother one day cut the cord of our paddles because they were 'tangled' and it was game over... :| Robin at 8-bit Show and Tell has recently done a couple of videos where he breaks down the coding and techniques used with this cartridge, and even fixes the 'BOUNS' typo.
Ironic that Bitcoin is now on a bullrun lol. I don't invest. It will crash again. But this was recorded about 4 weeks ago and since then, bitcoin has climbed to an all time high lol.
Nice CRT there Chris. Looks just right for some of the old platforms. I don't have a C64 these days but did once years ago. I vaguely recall reading some time back that C64s could, or some revisions could, output a signal that is similar to S-video with separate luma/chroma, but the voltages are different. I don't know if you can buy a cable these days - C64 s-video-like to standard s-video. Wouldn't be surprised if you could.
Thanks mate and good suggestions. This TV has composite but no svideo or scart. I'm actually looking for a smaller crt more in keeping with what I would have had in my bedroom.
Cartridge games weren't super common on the Speccy. There were a decent number for the Atari 8-bit line though. The original 400 was kind of positioned as (or at least interpreted as) a games system that just happened to also be a computer. Interested to see this game as I was playing Motor Mania last night and some folks compare that favourably to Le Mans.
The only game cartridge I had for the C64 was the classic International Soccer which came with the computer. I also used those utility cartridges to alter the code in the games..
I spilled tea over my motherboard I use for making music a few years ago glad it's ok. never had any cartridges for my c64 I had tapes only, great video as always.
The joys of attempting to play on retro computers 🤣. Serves you right for playing on dirty commodore 🤢🤮💩. Love the paddle controller, the game looks like spy hunter without the guns.
The PSU has had the mod done whatever that is. Something about standardizing the voltage? But this does feel like a cap/voltage supply issue as the longer the machine is on, the more it behaves. I won it in a raffle at a meet so I really don't care. It gives it some character.
@@005AGIMA hehe yes these machines have character, and the most likable characters have both good and bad traits. My MacBook M1 laptop has bad traits too but they're not as charming though ;).
@@005AGIMA I noticed some tasks like rendering a mix in Reaper were taking longer. A Geekbench test confirmed it my suspicions. Somehow it’s much slower than when I first got it. Perhaps a reinstall will fix it. No other big issues with it
It got better lol. Sometimes these old machines need to cobwebs blown out I think. I suspect a capacitor issue where the power comes in, as the machine behaves better the longer it's on.

Ah nice that it was a packin game. I used to love top down racers like this as a kid.
You had me at Crashed like a BitCoin...LOL! Awesome perseverance Chris! Good on ya, mate (is that the right saying?) :)

It's a fun game for sure. Thanks for the spectrum info. Consistent with my thoughts. I assumed the speccy needed an adaptor?

Oh I like the sound of the utility carts

Spills are not good. Glad yours was ok
Oops, at least it wasnt on haha. Are you watching Le Mans this year? WEC is pretty good at the moment. 😄
I don't think we get it on free to air :(
Forgot to say, I will be watching the F1 at a mates tomorrow though

Yeah needs guns
Nice top Chris 👍
Haha thanks
Maybe the C64 needs a recap? How's the PSU?

Did the power brick, for the C64 get a splash of your lemon water?
Na it was no where near it.

Time to get the soldering iron out Chris. Save the C64 before it is too late.
I would only make it worse lol. I won this machine for $20 so...meh 🤣
