Shortly after this video is published I will be going away for a month on a cruise with little or no wifi so I will be unable to respond to comments. Please leave youir comments or questions as usual and I will respond to them all when I get back. Thanks you for watching this series.
Les, We can't thank you enough for your videos of the Kruger and Kgalagadi. We have enjoyed them all!! Your narration style and length are perfect for us and we have learned a great deal. Your videography is great and really provides a tremendous opportunity to "see" the animals. Two weeks from now we are headed to South Africa for our first visit and tour. Of the 15 days we get only 2 1/2 in the Kruger. Your videos have already made us want to somehow find more time there. We hope you do another visit with more videos so that we can see what we won't see this time! Thank you! Sheldon and Carol-Ann
Many thanks, sorry I couldn't reply before you set off. I hope you got a 'lucky' time in the Kruger but a couple of days is only a taster! We are hoping to go again in August next year and will definitely be making more videos.
Another cracking series which we thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. What a way to end your trip. Thanks for taking the time to share your adventure, fantastic photos at the end of the video. Karl & Alison
We had a fabulous trip to South Africa and Kruger. You are absolutely right that two days is only a teaser. It did make us appreciate the amount of time and effort that you put into filming and editing your videos, however. Thank you again for sharing your videos with us and the rest of the UA-cam community. We are now hooked on Kruger and your work. We look forward to future episodes of your time in the Kruger. Sheldon
Glad you had a good time. Any plans to go back to Kruger for a longer stay? We'll probably sort out out our trip for next year shortly after Christmas.
We would love to go again, for at least a week or two. It is not clear whether that will happen in the near future or not. Clearly, the first step is making the commitment. Regardless, we will continue to enjoy the park vicariously through your videos. Thank you!
What a fantastic end to your visit. It's been great counting down the weeks to our trip with you, 3 weeks tomorrow and we can't wait. Thank you for an amazing series.
What can I say, it was amazing, absolutely loved the north and blessed with many more lion and leopard sightings than we expected. No cheetah though but hey ho. High 40's for over a week, thank god for air conditioning. Berg-en-Dal was fantastic, big 5 every day. I could go on and on. Next year, looking at Northern Namibia and the Caprivi Strip, now that's some planning! Enjoy the cruise and Merry Christmas to you both .
Well done on the series, thoroughly enjoyed your story. I have been visiting Kruger for close on 60 years, also lived in Phalaborwa for 7 years working for Rio Tinto, so Kruger is also very much part of our lives
Hi a fabulous series which we have thoroughly enjoyed and will look forward to your next adventure to South Africa (our favourite). It was good that you saw dogs and leopard on your last few days cheers
Many thanks for your appreciation. We always seem to get good luck on our last couple of days and have seen wild dogs on the last day on three of our five visits!
Thanks for another great series! Counting down to my next trip to Kruger (November!) and your series were perfect for the anticipation (and memories of the previous trip) to this!
Thank you so much for a lovely series! We know the Kruger well, but love to look at it from the perspective of an overseas visitor who obviously love the place. And we love your presentation style, honest but always positive. I see that you have even made a wood fire to braai something this time around ! Thank you also for naming all the birds, it is quite frustrating to look at good footage of birds (other videos) and not always know for sure what it is. We prefer August to October - the veld is more open and the likelihood of rain much less - important especially because we are camping
Thanks so much for your comments. I agree with you about the frustration of not knowing the bird names. When I started making these videos I worked on the basis that many people watching may never have been on safari and so might not even know the names of the animals let alone the birds. You can't expect everybody to know the difference between a Tsessebe and a Kudu and it's even surprising that many people confuse wild dogs and hyaenas. As to the birds!!! We have tried to experience Kruger in all different seasons and next year hope to go back in August for the reasons you state.
Sorry to see you go!! Thank you for a brilliant series showing the good the bad and the indifferent of the wonderful Kruger. Already looking forward to your next visit. Trust you got home safely😀😀
Great video and series of the Kruger park. True the timing going to Kruger park is important, rain, heat and thunderstorms can have a huge impact on your visit, but we dearly enjoyed it and wish you do come back to the Kruger park. Thank you for sharing and have good flight home. Greetings from Germany
Sir....your videos are the best!!! I love your way of handling the camera and what you film is fabulous....the limited soft background music is the best .....❣
Well done Les! Great series even with all the road closures and thick bush. You really had a banger of and ending with that epic wild dog sighting and the gorgeous leopard in the tree. I’ve really enjoyed this series and am looking forward to seeing what you post next year. Sadly it’s going to be a few years till we get back there, the world is just too darn big and there’s never enough time or money to see it all but we’re headed to ZIM in 2025 and can’t wait.
Thanks for your appreciation. I totally agree with your sentiments but we've been lucky to visit a good few places in the world in the past 10 years and those that are left are too darn expensive! Being retired we've got plenty of time but could do with some more money! Kruger for us is good value which is one of the reasons we will keep going back.
Hi Les , another great series . Must say you were brave to go to the Kruger in Feb/Mar. Apart from the rain , just to hot and that I say as a South African . We prefer Aug/Sept at the latest. You still had amazing sightings with limited access & those wild dog sightings make me jealous. Enjoy your cruise , maybe do a Vlog about that to & maybe 1 day we can meet up in the Kruger as we try to go every year as well . Send me a private message when you able to. Take care & thanks for your visits to SA & supporting conservation by visiting our Parks
Many thanks for your comment. We wanted to try the Kruger in every season but I think we have now settled on the time you prefer and are planning on going in August next year. Strangely, although it was hot (and the Kgalagadi got up to 43 °) it didn't seem as hot as we thought it might. It's quite a dry heat in SA as opposed to the more humid weather we get in the UK so I guess it's down to what you are used to.
What an end to your trip, fantastic series. Thank you so much for sharing. Safe travels and we'll keep an eye out for you next time we're on an adventure in Africa.
Watched this episode some time ago, but forgot to post a reaction. Indeed what a fantastic finish of your Kruger adventure. We are so much looking forward to your next series and i'am almost certain it will be with less rain ??? No plans for returning to SA at the moment for us. But travelling next month to Argentina, Antarctica and Chili, no big predators, but who knows we will get lucky with the whales and pinguins. We will think about you next August and cross our fingers for you to get as much great sightings as possible. take care Kind regards Viviane
@@oldcodgerwithacamera We are now, thank you. It was a great trip and some wonderful views of wildlife. But with a 4:30am gate opening the days were long and tiring. We have a new found respect for the work you put in producing these videos. Hope you enjoyed your trip away too.
We have again watched the first 9 episoded with so much pleasure, it is so nice to be able to go on safari even from our living room in Brussels. Will look at episode 10 later this week, hope it will not be the last one ....
Having never been to the Kruger and it’s embarrassing for a South African, your content just makes me realise more and more what I’m missing out on. Ngiyabonga(Thank You)
Hi Les, Enjoyed this series of yours. I just put out my first video from Kruger this year today and as much as I enjoy seeing the footage you had taken with the green grass I still prefer August/September for the sightings. Maybe catch up with you next year! Regards, Rose
We have tried to experience all the seasons and have come to the same conclusion as you. We are planning on August next year and maybe might bump inmto one another?
I watched all your Kruger videos, I love the way you presented them. Also your narration is excellent, and you let us know on which roads you had the sightings. I'm planning on going to Kruger for about a month in a year from now, maybe I'll see you there!
Yes, hoping to go back in August next year. We spent a couple of days in Pilanesberg after our very first visit to the Kruger back in 2017. Not quite the Kruger but we throughly enjoyed it and would certainly recommend a visit for anyone with a few spare days around Johannesburg.
We had a month in New Zealand back in 2016. Hired a motorhome and drove both islands starting in Auckland and finishing in Christchurch. A stunningly beautiful country and I'd love to go back but there's not enough money to do everything!
Thanks for another great video series! Where and when is your next trip? Curious why you had your rental car cleaned... do you get charged for cleaning by rental agency? Advice on rental company? Have you been to Madagascar? Sounds like a hired guide would be needed for that adventure. Do you stay in Petoria or Joburg on arrival? Is it safe?
We've just come back from a month long cruise around the Mediterranean, not exactly the Kruger but actually more exhausting! Hoping to go back to the Kruger in August next year. We've been stung with cleaning chanrges by rental companies before, anything from £35 to £60 so a fiver at Skukuza was well worth it. Driving on the gravel roads in the Kgalagadi and Kruger with the windows open will make the inside of the car incredibly dusty and a nightmare to clean yourself. We have tried half a dozen different rental companies and none seem better or worse than the others. Tempest was the one we used for this trip and, because the car was so clean when we took it back, they only spent about 30 seconds looking it over. Never been to Madagascar so can't help there. Always stay in Johannesburg close to the airport. City Lodge is right next to the airport (you don't even have to go out onto the street) but can be a little expensive. Some of the cheaper lodges in Kempton Park are now in fully gated areas and so are quite safe. It can be a little scary driving to them in the dark but we've never had any problems.
@oldcodgerwithacamera Welcome Home! We hope you had a great trip and now can get some rest. Will you be doing video of the trip? We definitely have a driving trip planned to see archeaology sites on the Turkish coast and want to spend some time in Morocco. Thanks for the good advice on hotels and car rental.
One of the ports on the cruise was Kusadasi. We took a local dolmus (mini-bus) to Ephesus. It was absolutely stunning, one of the highlights of the whole trip. I have lots of video, just got to get my head around putting it all together!
Sir....your videos are the best!!! I love your way of handling the camera and what you film is fabulous....the limited soft background music is the best .....❣
wow, I was not expecting the Big Elephant to back off when you turn the engine on. It doesn't matter how strong and brave we are fear is part of life
Absolutely! We only turned the engine on because we were a bit scared, if we hadn't I reckon he would just have strolled calmly by.
I Love the accompaning music for the wildlife.
Thanks, it takes a lot of time to find the right music.
