    I hope you persevere with this camera Will, I think it shows a lot of promise in your capable hands, I'm loving most of the shots so far.

    It's gotta be down to the sun direction! Holga use plastic to make their cameras as you know...... But they use shiny black plastic inside the camera which reflects light..... not a matt plastic! I honestly believe that the whole Holga experience is a combination of shiny black plastic and sun direction :-)

      This could certainly be part of the issue, especially on sunny days, I think covering the red windy may reduce a lot of the light entering

    I nearly bought a Holga pinhole on three separate occasions. I always ducked out at the last minute and bought something else. I’m glad I did. Don’t get me wrong, I love the photos you took, I like light leaks… but the inconsistencies and unpredictability would drive me nuts.
    I’m looking forward to more pinhole photos using the Holga. Good luck!

      Thanks Rom, luck is what I need. Hopefully I can fully light proof the thing first, then it should be more enjoyable to use 😁

    Nice video Will! Like you, I'm not really "charmed" by the light leaks and other Holga issues, but I do enjoy using a well-sorted one. In addition to the gaffer tape over the red window, you'll need to take that body into a darkroom and use a flashlight to look for other leaks. There are a few areas that are notorious for leaks - the area around the shutter button being one. Also a good time to consider painting some matte black paint in the lightbox area to cut down on flares and bounced light.

      Ok thanks, they sound like some good ideas, I did think the shutter button may be a light leak issue, but dark room with light and have a good look first

    Try taping over the red window and see if that helps with the uneven exposure. Love the water images and hope you repeat the ones you are unhappy with.

      Thank you Wendy, tape over the red windy ay help, it is a bug red window compared to others, so could definitely be an issue.

    Hi, just bought the Holga Wide and carried out the modifications you did and hopefully I’ll get something with it next week! Thanks for your info and videos, inspirational.

    That tree photo is awesome. I also like that 6x12 aspect ratio. I’ve never shot pinhole but have been watching a few of your videos and will have to give it a try at some point. I’m guessing that there would be a way to get a pinhole lens board to use on my 4x5.

      Thank you very much Matt, I know Intrepid sell pinhole lens boards.

    If you haven't tried this you might want to grab a magnifying glass and take a really close look at the pin hole. It may not be a perfectly clean hole, perhaps a bit of a burr around the edge.

      Being a Holga I doubt it will be the best Pinhole, have had many mixed results with it.

    Electrical tape for the back cover is an essential HWPC accessory :)

    How about the theory that the shutter was pressed too far open with this construction? Obviously it was the right side of the the film (left side of the picture) that showed the vignette.

    • @WillGudgeon
      @WillGudgeon  9 місяців тому

      Yes that could of been a problem, it all sorted now and works great, did a few things at once so not sure which was causing the issue

    I see that about a year has past since you did this video but I have some advise if you haven't rectified the flaws of the camera. It isn't the shuttermechanisme that cause the vignetting it's the 0.4 inch/ 1 cm hole around the pinhole that does it. If you take a carpetknife and cut at an angle in a rectangular area around the 0.4 inch hole you should be rid of the vignetting and maybe the shadows too?

    I was never happy with the 6x12cm images from my Holga pinhole.
    I now limit my image size to 6x9cm.

    Inside a camera an image is turned upside down and left becomes right. You are not left handed..... Which means the darker blurred parts are not from your manual shutter.

    • @WillGudgeon
      @WillGudgeon  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, but my hand was on that side of the image, on the negative it's on the left, but when flipped back, it is back down on that corner.

      @@DaveInElland that would be great, I have one that would work perfectly, but some of the thread snapped of in another camera.
      There is an old camera shop in the next town, so may head over there to see if they have anything.
