Oh why does your channel not have more subscribers! The subject matter and the way you present it doesn't just apply to TTG but all creativity. There is someone out there who has a knitting pile of shame (and you know it exists) that could benefit from watching you. Your videos are fantastic! I can't wait for my weekly injection of positivity! Sincerely: A fellow Goonie!
The difference between opportunity and same I think varies between awareness of what you have. As you said, you felt shame for something that was primed but forgotten about. I get the same, nothing worse than digging up a miniature that you have forgotten you primed waiting to paint. I like opportunity as it creates a level of anticipation and excitement, shame gives a feeling of dread and apathy.
For me they really are a pile of opportunity. I do custom terrain for clients on the side. I deliberately build up things that I know I can use to make X or Y, and get them listed in my shop. As for unfinished projects, they are a wonderful way for me to test ideas if I've lost enthusiasm for what the final result was supposed to be. Another great video, sir.
@@tabletopalchemy It's not mine, steal away!! 🤣😅 I forgot my cardinal rule, quote your sources, it's actually Bruce Lee, and there are few better men, no, PERSON who would love to have their words stolen in such a way. @sutekh233 some excellent quotes in here! Yes, chicken scrawls, yessir - you familiar with Grant Morrison? Should save that question for the email I owe ya😂🏴☠️
@@tabletopalchemy You OWE me nothing Ignatius, but I appreciate the thought. I had to look up Grant Morrison, and you are hitting a period where my kids where more front and centre in my mind rather than reading comics. This has to be one of the very best answers I have ever heard. I have about 7 of the Malifaux "gangs" who are ALL on greycation. I LOVE the game, but assembling mini's and painting them is NOT my forte, in fact, I have screwed some of them up royally just trying to put them together. Sometimes I miss the time when mini's were pewter, or more likely lead. I may have chewed on some back then, would explain alot............
My main two problems for my pile of shame is 1) I have too many hobbies and split my time up between RPG writing (I plan to release a horror game soon), running games, drawing for said games, painting minis, and playing games. The nature of the beast means some things get put on the back burner for a bit. The upside is I never get bored since I cycle through one hobby and another. But it can get annoying. And there is only so much time in a day.
Agreed, the term "pile of "shame" seems so derogatory. I feel no shame in my unopen boxes, primed and unprimed minis and once half painted. I smile with joy some times finding a box and thinking "OH COOL! found Treasure" I work in a stressful job, and see my Pile as rewards :-) Enjoyed the video, please keep them coming!!
This. This video got me to take a mini I’ve had for two years and just prime it. I’ve never painted a mini but wanted to dip my toe in (I watched that video after this one). I’ve made 100% progress, just by switching from “Pile of shame” to “pile of opportunity”. Thank you!
My Pile of Opportunity has been Great for becoming my Example of Explorers. As in, whenever I want to test a paint scheme the Explorers are the ones to boldly go First.
Pile Management and bridging the chasm between desire & intent. The desire to complete an object of opportunity and the intent to simply go sit in the chair. Oh yea, you have found me were I live. So many hobbies, so little focus. Thanks for reminding me its the journey that counts and practice makes progress. Stalled projects as practice fodder, solid. Now, time to go find that chair [..I had that chair around here somewhere...]
I have unfinished projects. When I look closely at them I can see that mostly, they were ill-conceived or that I was influenced by someone or something else to attempt them. In other words, they weren't original. When I have original ideas they fly to completion on their own momentum.
I have a few minis and some terrain that I should do something with :D Thanks for helping me realize that I should do something with them. Seeing them for sure makes me feel worse than my Pile of Opportunity. When we moved less than a year ago most of my crafting/terrain building is out in the garage, so out of sight out of mind?
I think I need to get “finished is better than perfect” tattooed on me to remind me to not give up on the projects in my pile of opportunity. And there are a LOT. 😅
