I'm glad the new codex is catering to these different playstyles. I'm really excited for when they get to my factions. Thanks for the review, seeing nerds nerd out is what I live for
Perhaps even more so than the rules, I'm glad that each detachment is on a two-page spread. That's proper formatting, makes it easy to reference with a single bookmark.
The various detachment rules seem like a really interesting addition to 10th edition. They're taking the idea of army playstyles that just came from unit compositions in the army and highlighting them as special forms of play. There are now unique rules and strategems for the detachments, so that the big bugs in a Crushing Stampede tactically play different than those you'd put into another type of detachment. The way it allows you to really lean into a playstyle sounds really fun.
As expected of @Play On Tabletop those tyranids are well painted. For the codex the return of Stampede Crusher is what make me more excited, Kaiju army battle is my favourite play style
Love what has been done with the Tyranids! From the beautiful models to amazingly fun rules. Im very excited to get this codex for my self and enjoy the tyranid swarm for all eternity!
I preordered a box of Hormagaunts and got a total of 60 Leviathan Termagants already. I'm going to slowly build up to 120 Hormagaunts and Termagants each. Devour the biomass!
I'm really looking forward to getting my codex, and the shame pile that follows it, but in reference to 0:39, one of the biggest things I love about my tyranid army is inexplicably absent from this codex: The Trygon, for the first time as far as I know, cannot burrow a tunnel for a unit to deep strike through. The most iconic part of the Trygon, what I would argue is the main thing that separates it from the Mawloc, and there's no longer a way to do it. I don't get why that has been removed, because it just turns the Trygon from an iconic monster with its own unique identity into a 2nd Mawloc datasheet.
I agree adding the eldritch horror aspect back to the Tyranids is fantastic, it was an important part of the second edition sculpts and it’s so good it has returned!
I love the soft purple that you guys painted these Leviathan bugs with, has really sort of sold the hive fleet for me while I was debating which one I wanted to play myself.
Unending Swarm seems like a right pain in the arse to play against, but I cannot deny how cool the roleplay element will be as you face down a sea of chitin!
Just imagine your units getting bogged down in a circle of gaunts, only to have a Mawloc erupt from below and devour them.. with another horde of gaunts then surging through that gap to utterly overwhelm your units from without and within. Gahhh I'm so excited!
Man I can’t wait for the Chaos Daemon codex’s, probably not gonna see them for 2-3 years though. It is really rough how badly they screwed over mono-God
If you do wanna jump into tyranids i highly recommend using contrast paints for them... spray them white then throw on 2 coats of contrast and its done. Makes painting them much more manageable, especially for hordes.
@@Swampert919 absolutely, just don't do what i did and use about 10 different paints just for termagants (not even including the base... though i think they look sick so the pain is worth it!)
I'm so excited for the new edition and rules. Just made at GW for how they're implementing them. Have to buy a book that'll be outdated in two months or pay a subscription to play a game I bought and paid for already?
Unending Swarm sounds like its gonna be a right pain in the arse to play with and play against, but the flavour, ohhh the flavour. Just imagine your units getting bogged down in a circle of 'gaunts, only to have a Mawloc erupt from below and devour them.. with another horde of gaunts then surging through that gap to utterly overwhelm any surviving units from without and within, before they all form up again and surge towards the next squad. Gahhh I'm so excited!
I'm really torn about how to play my Chronos army. Do I field a massive horde to wear down demons and put more bodies into the fight than they have attacks, do I build around synapse and get some nice buffs, or do I make everyone a little better at fighting than normal?
So I'm not seeing anyone correcting the crusher stampede carnifex comment, so I'll say it just in case. Unless you are running a single model of carnifex it does not benefit them like at all. For a unit of 2 to be below starting strength 1 has to die first, that also locks them out of the +1 to wound since a unit of 2 can never be below half strength.
One thing I don't get is why you would make Deathleaper your warlord in the Vanguard detachment. What is the purpose of that other than a bit of RP? A broodlord can work as a warlord with an enhancement plus the genestealers it would be running with. Or even still just grab a hive tyrant or the swarmlord for more effective stratagems. But maybe I'm missing something since I don't have one of the new books yet.
Broodlord kinda forces you to invest in genestealers, and the only other vanguard character is the winged prime (i think). Other tyranid characters cant use the detachment's stuff. So on top of the RP (which is reason enough) it means if you wanna lean into a lictor based army you can without having to pay for a bodyguard you dont want.
@@Swampert919 Ah, didn't know about the no tyrant option. And I would think investing in genestealers would be good either way. But I get what you mean.
@@colingreene9438 winged tyrants might be vanguard organisms but that hasnt been confirmed yet. You can still take non vanguard organisms like tyrants but they won't get any benefit from the detachment ability, nor can they use any enhancements or strategems, so might be a worse choice than the alternatives, hard to say atm.
Probably none, as with the core book (almost all of the lore was directly lifted from the 9th ed book, with little to no changes). GW charge vast amounts and are so lazy with what they produce...
Did you pick up the data cards? Are they "pick up and play" like the index cards were? My ideal wish for the data cards would be three or four cards with the rules, detachments, strategems and enhancements. All the data cards and a points card. Job Done. Simple, as promised. So, will my wish come true?
so what got me back into 40k was the rumor of free rules, no more codex's. And low and behold another 40 dollar codex that i need to buy to get the full rules, is this a NEW paywall i have to climb? Sigh.
I doubt anything in the collective star trek universe could dismantle a Tyranid swarm. I think even the Borg would have trouble dealing with hive fleet tendrils.
Out of curiosity, are there any new combat patrols in the book. I feel like there was mention pre edition launch of combat patrol options in codices. Overall sounds like Nids are doing alright. The Norn looks sweet!
It doesn’t seem really exciting but I guess as long as the other codexes are on the same level it should be ok. Most of the ones on the roadmap are probably already done but I don’t have a lot of faith that they will be balanced. Also no subfactions is still lsme
@@tychoimmega9741 oke but only negatief you get, you unit cannot score and you cant play strats on them. but other ways you can do every thing else with the unit. Would be better if you could not get closer to the enemy or if your unit has to fall back.

The crusher stampede detachment rule isn't great with a unit of fex's, they only get the +1 to hit when one dies and can never get the +1 to wound as they will never be below half strength
I believe its been clarified that a unit like that is at half strength when the first model dies. And even IF its not formally been ruled that way it makes logical sense. And the +1 to hit would be once either of them take their first wound.
@@davidkimberley7819 Starting strength is full unit with all wounds, aka a 5 man squad with 2 wounds each is below starting with 1 guy with 1 wound lost. Same unit is below half strength once 3 models are lost. Also yes on single model units, monsters/vehicles/etc, their wounds are used to measure staring and below half.
