Tonalism just means that there is just a small variation in the values. Working within a carefully chosen palette of closely related colors, the Tonalists aspired to emulate musicality and inspire contemplation. By arranging color and forms, they believed that landscapes could evoke emotion and suggest deep, cosmic harmonies. Their gentle color schemes and softly brushed contours quickly became popular, influencing musicians and poets. Unlike their contemporaries, such as the Luminists and the Impressionists, the Tonalists favored cool palettes and often chose nocturnal or modest scenes of contemplative quiet. The simplicity and attention to composition found in Tonalism contributed to the abstractions that would develop in 20th-century American modernism.

You described it best when you said " Tonalism is a mood. " I say: If a person can combine the abstract illusion of detail with their particular mood and the ambience of what they see.. then that's Tonalism.

All of these efforts were to achieve something beyond realism...a spiritual aspect in visual arts.

Tonalist painting: a simple unbroken horizon line; low-key color harmony; and diffused and diminished lighting effects (Western Art and Architecture).
A way of painting landscapes that is characterized by soft, blurred lines, gentle use of colors in the mid-range of tones and values, and an elegantly simple composition (Principlearttalk).

There are two terms: Guys and Gals.
But the word 'guys' has been adopted to include both genders.
Of the two terms, why has GUYS been adopted? Why not 'gals' ?
The answer is that there is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female.
Why are males bothered when addressed as 'gals' but females are assumed not to be bothered when addressed as 'guys' ?
Why are women allowed to dress like men, but men cannot dress like women ?
Why can women adopt men's names but men can't adopt women's names?
There is a higher societal value to being male than there is to being female.
It's SEXISM in speech and writing.
    Drop "Guys".
    The word ''Folks'' is better.

Sort of not relevant to this youtube video (which is pretty good). But I hear what you are saying. It's always felt weird to me to address a mixed male/female crowd as "guys". I use "folks" often.

Interesting word, "intent". As many people paint, they lose confidence , as I do. Nothing looks right . I'll ask myself what my "intent" is before I start. Then I'll work towards that idea. Another sayings that has helped me that I heard a few weeks ago is " Better done than perfect".
