Great idea! I’ve been trying to think of a simple way to do this without drilling into the support beam. I only have a single pile to cover in my basement project but I think I will try your method
You failed the instant you left those bent over nails in, instead of replacing them with the proper lag bolts. All the moving and bending you did to them with that hammer probably only loosened and weakened them even more.
I noticed there was an outlet running down one of the columns, did you cover it? Or just remove it all together? I didn’t notice it when you were finished..
So, there's this thing called a hole saw. You can cut out a square collar the same size as the column cut it in half and now you have no need for construction adhesive. Unless you're staining or have some structural need for the wood, MDF is more stable. Then there's the jack posts which were holding the beams up with bent nails and gravity. The jack posts are also installed upside down, albeit there's no difference in compressive strength...
That's very true. I had to fact check myself when making this video and some places sell this as a "basement support beam". Although you are right it is technically a column. A+
Why call these basement beams, as they are posts or poles, and you use that term throughout the video? I was looking to box in my main beam and ended up here
THANK YOU! I'm enclosing some porch posts that are 4" steel and wasn't sure exactly how I should start. This was perfect
Thank you for all your videos, they are all very informative and help many people! Enjoy all of your videos sir!
This is awesome and exactly what I am looking for!!!!!!!
Beautiful and thoughtful and with the electric box 🤙
That's a good looking truck!
lol. yes it is
Working on this project now! This is so much better/easier than my original plan.

This is great. Thanks for sharing!
Great job will look awesome when done looking forward to seeing it.
Very informative video....I have to enclose that but only 3 sides......thank you
Thank you. Just what I needed.
So good! Nicely done sir!
Looking forward to seeing more of this project. You made it look very simple!
Thank you, for sharing this video!
Yes this is exactly what I am going to do loved it
Very nice
i needed this video. thanks
Good job 👏 👍
Love this
Great video I love it
I see a Iowa Hawkeyes sign on the wall.awesome.

wood putty IS crap! thanks for proposing an alternative. nice work
Is that lumber in contact with the concrete floor?
Nice work man! What size brad nails did you use? 1" 3/4? Also, are you using 1x8's. I'm about to attempt this exact job!
That's a good question. I don't really remember unfortunately. But that sounds about right
What did you use for spacers and how did you get the measurement
I need to do this in my basement but worry that they could be bumped hard enough and then just spin around. Any worry of that happening? Thx
That looks sweet man what size Lumber did you use
what size wood are you using 1 x 8?
What's the size of planks you used?
Go Hawks!
I noticed there was an outlet running down one of the columns, did you cover it? Or just remove it all together? I didn’t notice it when you were finished..
I was wondering the same, since I’d like an outlet on mine.
Nice work. Now I will try it. 😊
how you did two beams that very close together
What makes it so sturdy? If you have a 1/4” gap between pole and spacer I would think it would shake 1/4” each way. What am I missing?
Construction adhesive
how wide were those boards?
👍
you just share the same idea with me bro!
How do you know what size spacer to use? Blessings
Guess and check lol

They are columns not beams. Beams are horizontal, columns are vertical

What kind of wood, dimensions (1x6)???
I think I used 1x8 pine boards. That might change based on the dimension of your beam.
Why did you just bend the nails and not use proper lag bolts??
Fwiw those are columns not beams. But nice work
Not Sure about Parents in Laws 🤪🤪🙂
These are not beams they are columns or posts. Beams are horizontal and columns are vertical.
Thanks for the useless tip 👍
WTH is up with those nails securing the beams...
I not sure. I've noticed most beams are secured that way. Not sure why.
you know those jack posts aren't to code
