Lally Column Cover Up With Outlets
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 жов 2017
- This is a video of how I covered a support column my shop. It is called a Lally pole. A jack pole is similar. Those are more commonly found in basements. However, the concept is the same. I have included a free template for the "ribs". It also works for a simple square too.

That turned out amazing - nice job Mitch!
Great video and exactly what I wanted to do with one column I need to cover in my workshop out in the middle of the floor. Mine will not be as finished as yours, but I need to run electric down it to a duplex set of 120V 20A receptacles and with enough space to run a second in the future (220V table saw outlet, pre-mounted empty box at the ready). I'll probably opt for 1" or 1.5" S40 PVC conduit and make my buildout a tad larger to fit.
Excellent video and great job 👍🏽
Great job brah. You got all the tools at the house . Nice
Great finished looking job.
Thank you!
Really appreciate the attention to detail! Looks great! Curious if you can/have done a vid on the pour spout you made for your paint can? I hate when paint fills that rim for the lid.
Nice work Mitch! Loved the stickers thing :)
Awesome job!
That’s awesome! Looks great brother!Love the video as well! 🤘
+Heath Knuckles thanks Heath... ;)
Nice Job, well done
Frank
Thank you Frank !
very nice, good work
I like your idea. Was wondering how this would work with using 2"x 6" for the interior supports that hold the vertical boards. Also, I only have a hand drill. Do you think this will work without a drill press?
Looks good mitch
Thanks!
Nice work bro!
excellent!
Awesome job
+Just Fooling Around thanks;)
Wow, great design! Makes me want to find a pole to cover.
+Dale Nimmo lol thanks! I have another one to do someday so come on over ;)
Haha. It's an 8000 mile trip, so give me some warning
WOW. Solid 👍👍👍👍
Thanks Gib!
The part at the end with you saying, “Really?” Is exactly what I do in that kind of situation.
Hi Mitch, great video. Now that it's been a few years, would you have covered it with drywall or has the wood worked out for you? Or, would you have used an outdoor fascia engineered wood instead? Also, thanks for the jig you supplied. Word of warning to those that intend to use it, ensure that you print it "actual" size and not let your print driver "fit" it to the page, or you'll end up about 5 3/16 wide vs 5 1/2 wide. Just wondering what else you put in the post, is it some kind of sensor? Great Video, Thanks
It really matches the rest of your shop
Well someday the walls will match, Thanks!
nice cover bro !!! 1 by 6 ... here we cant find this size !!! i always hit my self when i work .... is a curse about that on the woodwoking ??
Thanks! I guess bumps and scratches are part of the game ;)
Mitch your are crazy - the cherry goes on top - LOL
lol...yes it does, doesn't it! ;)
C'mon !! Everybody knows that, Mitch !! lol
That’s great work!
Your trash my treasure thanks buddy!
Where can I find this same template but for 3.5 inch poles
I need the same template
Nice work! But do you think the conduit was a little overkill? Wire going to be behind solid wood.
Maybe 😏
Nicely done, when did you pull your wire Gothenburg outlets?
+Michael Hausman after I was done with installation and paint. Went really well.
Great job Mitch the only problem I see is now you got to replace all the stickers you covered up LOL awesome job buddy.

Wow Mitch You did a nice job!! Hey my friend if you want you can still come over if you want , turn a pen or glue up a blank for your self , We will see what you can do with a lathe! I just starting to get around again but I can talk you through the things of trying out the lathe , In November if you have the time? Regards BobLee
Yeah maybe I will get myself a blank made up for something small. been thinking about picking up a small set of carbide tools to get started with. November sounds good to me.
