Initially, David Selby played the heavy when his character was first introduced to Collinwood.

David and Amy sure rattled poor Mrs. Johnson! Little rats! Looks as though the secret room in the mausoleum was the best place for Chris! I hope Dr. Hoffman can help Chris. She's treating Barnabas for his little problem, I hope Chris can be helped for the sake of Amy! I can't figure out why Quentin wants to kill Chris! ???? The ghost of Beth saved Chris by leading Barnabas and Julia to the cottage where Chris lives. This story is so riveting!

Huge david fan...I was his age almost when watching the reruns in the 70s after school...the whole cast said what a pro he was to work with...a Broadway show veteran at that point after being in Oliver!...always knew his lines and was interested in what was going on behind the camera etc

I'm a David fan, too. He has physically grown so much that he will outgrow Ms. Barrett soon.

The mystery of why Quentin wants to harm Chris is already pulling me in. I won't rush to watch the next video. I want to let what's happening sink in. Beth seems so tormented.

Poor Mrs Johnson! I love the scene where the children are staring at her and trying to gaslight her.

It’s too bad that Julia just couldn’t get that life-saving Atrophine for Chris’s Jennings from the nearest Walgreen’s in Collinsport; she had to call her personal hospital, Windcliff (which was either 10 miles or 50 miles from Collinwood, depending on the DS episode), to save Chris.
In addition, it was sort of sad, after Barnabas and Julia returned from 1995 to 1970 Collinwood, that they learned from Quentin while watching an eclipse of the moon, that Chris, Chris’ little sister Amy and Chris’ fiancee, Sabrina had all left Collinsport for parts unknown.
We never found out if Chris’s had finally found a cure for his unfortunate case of lycanthropy. After DS went off the air in 1971, DS writer Sam Hall wrote a piece for “T.V. Guide” in which he speculated what happened to Barnabas & company after Barnabas, Julia and Elliott Stokes returned from 1841.
Sam Hall wrote that Sabrina had locked up Chris in a secured room whenever the moon was full. However, one night Chris escaped from the locked room and murdered Sabrina.
Upon learning the horrible thing he had done the night before, Chris took his own life out of a sense of great guilt and grief.
Carolyn Stoddard then adopted Amy Jennings, and Amy (who was actually related to the Collins family as Quentin’s own descendant) lived with the Collins family, the only positive result of the tragic ending of Chris Jennings.

Yes, I heard that he retired from acting after leaving DS. Don Briscoe had been a classmate of Roger Davis at Columbia University. Many of the DS actors attended really outstanding universities.
I understand that Don Briscoe returned to his parents’ home in Kentucky. (I think.)
Some DS fans located him in his hometown and there was a more recent photo of him on the DS Forum web site. Sadly, he died when he was only in his early 60s.

@@kensellers4082 yes, he went back home to live with his parents, working in his father's gas station. The antidepressants he took caused him to go up to 300 pounds. His father died a few months earlier, leaving him alone in the house. He died of heart disease. His sister found him in bed.

Man, that is really sad. It’s too bad that he didn’t have more siblings to take care of him and see that he received effective medical treatment for his mental challenges.
That DS storyline with Elizabeth suffering with a morbid fear of death (“courtesy” of the vindictive Cassandra), reminded me years later of a person suffering from both depression and generalized anxiety.
As much as I liked Dr. Julia Hoffman, she never really helped anyone with their emotional challenges; Julia always just seemed to give them a “sedative” to sleep. And, was anyone ever really better after they stayed at her private hospital, Windcliff? I don’t think so.

When I was 9 going on 10 in 1968 that's when I started watching Dark Shadows and at that time it was the werewolf episodes, of course growing up on farm and we had lots of acreage their was work after school. In 1976 when I was high school age that summer Dad and Mom didn't object to me watching it then on weekdays which at that time it was right before Victoria Winters traveled to 1795. The only way to see and enjoy every episode was to collect them on DVD which I did in 2008.

I SAVED UP 25$ TO BUY THE WEREWOLF MASK AND GLOVES JUST LIKE THE WEREWOLF FROM DARK SHADOWS. I WAS LIKE 10 AT THE TIME. IT WAS NO SMALL TASK COMING UP WITH THAT KIND OF MONEY IN 1968. I EVEN HAD THE BLUE DENIM SHIRT WITH RIPS IN IT. I TOOK FUR FROM A OLD FUR COAT AND GLUED THEM WHERE THE HOLES WERE. SCARED THE CRAP POUT OF MY SISTER! IT WAS WORTH IT JUST FOR THAT!

Whatever became of Mrs. Johnson’s ex-con son, Harry? We never saw him after Barnabas returned from 1897. Maybe Harry and Buzz Hackett, Carolyn’s former boyfriend, took off from Collinsport for New Orleans on motorcycles, just like Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper did in “Easy Rider”?
PS Mrs. Johnson also had a daughter whom we never got to see on the show. It’s just as well that Mrs. Johnson’s daughter never showed up at Collinwood; she probably would have ended up like Donna Friedlander or Madam Findlay, morto!

Another missed moment on “Dark Shadows” was that we never got to see Barnabas meet the immortal Buzz Hackett on the show.
Imagine the cultured and refined Barnabas exchanging bon mots with the hip and irreverent Buzz? That would have been like Sir Laurence Olivier exchanging pleasantries with Sid Vicious.
Alas, what might have been in the charming New England fishing village of Collinsport, Maine.

If the Dark Shadows Festivals are ever re-started, maybe the very talented members of the Dark Shadows Arts Performers can present some productions featuring Barnabas and Buzz or the venerated DS comedy team of Lang & Clark, and the timeless comedic schtick routines performed by Collinsport’s two favorite sons, the unfailingly articulate Dr. Eric Lang and the “slightly”animated Mr. Jeff Clark?
