Swoozie?? Bro watches architecture UA-cam?
SWOOZIE ?????????????
Why are these so damn good! Never seen such high level of production and storytelling
Your videography, presentation, and commentary are all absolutely stunning. What a beautiful delve into your creative and emotional side. I love how tactile this entire experience is, even though it’s just imagery and music and words. Absolutely beautiful work, Dami. ❤
Thank you!! 😀
Very well put! I was having difficulty composing my impressions. You have done just that. Thank you! And thank you, Dami!✌😎
So much care and thought was put in this video. Amazing work
This may be my favorite of your videos thus far. I would love to live in this house, and I would love to have a deep philosophical conversation with you about this house and architecture I general. You have me reconsidering my career goals. I'm an artist and a philosopher, and I've found myself wanting to create art people can immerse themselves in. You're inspiring, thank you. ❤
@@DamiLeeArch I have seen this video over 10 times this past week.
I'm speechless..........
The quality of your video is through the roof 😂
Your thought process is so inspiring and the project itself is just woww.
please keep doing these videos🤩🤩🤩
To mark the passage of the season’s you could have a “Stonehenge” window, where on a certain day it will illuminate another part of the house. Also add pumps to the pool to douse all the trees surrounding the house in case there’s a bushfire
My favourite moment of the video was you explaining the fabric-concrete. It was beautiful visual storytelling that not only let me visualize the texture, but really feel it. This video is a masterclass in visual storytelling and editing, and the home is beautiful. 🙌
I'm not particularly interested in architecture but these videos are just so so good , so well made, so informative.
Makes me wonder that even how hard the concrete would be, in can be softened by this fabric infused texture material.
Asbestos, maybe?
@@NeiFidelis that was my thought too 😂😂 looks very much like asbestos
Asbestos is completely banned in Europe for a few decades now... I actually have seen such concrete in person, and it actually feels soft, I was told it's exclusively the texture that creates this effect and no fibers of any kind are embedded
Dear Dami Lee and everyone responsible for producing this video,
Thank you so much for making this video. This was such an absolutely amazing and thought provoking experience. Your architecture has always inspired me in a general sense, but this takes things to an entirely different level of thinking and of feeling. Cinematically it was a beautiful video. The monologue describing the reasoning and visualizations behind the concept were truly elucidating and quite clear. How this concept plays with the fundamental nature of our reality was such an interesting perception and I cannot tell you how much this has inspired me in my current project.
Thank you.
I have no words. This was beautifully crafted, Dami. Kudos to the team!
I absolutely love these videos, they're so unbelievably high quality and show a way of life that I'm not exposed to at all. It makes me realize the world could be beautiful
I LOVED this concept. Someday I want to live in a house that is both a warm welcoming home, but also kind of a art statement. Were each cm² was designed with a specific higher purpose in mind. Like the labyrinth or the entranceway or the sundial aspect of this one. Bedrooms that feel like a sanctuary to sleep, where trying to do anything but sleep (and that other thing) feels completely out of place. An office that let's you work but reminds you of why you work and when it's time to rest. And doing all this not like a commander, demanding obedience, or through fear. But as a lovely, gentle and kind, invisible hand remining you to be present.
Sounds beautiful. You would make a great client. 😊
@@DamiLeeArch One day! 🙏🏼
Yeah I agree. This house reminds of the dream home I wanted to live in since I was kid.
This is almost poetic as it is beautiful. Thank you for expanding my mindset when it comes to the concept of time very few architects have embraced. It’s so funny how people used to spend a whole day doing laundry by hand, and now we have machines that do it for us but we still have no time. Taking the time in those moments of pause are to me such a quality existence. I couldn’t imagine even having that headache of a frustrating job just to come home to four walls that do nothing for you. I’m still designing my future home, but now I will inculcate these concepts. Time is pieces of our lives that we should not waste.
Every time I think your videos can't get any better, there you go. This is amazing. I feel like I have learned more from you than from my professors. And I'm not even gonna talk about inspiration.
Thank you!! 🙏 I'm very honoured 😊
so truth
You mentioned "in-between-moments" which reminded me of the work of photographer Gregory Crewdson, who made whole series based on that concept, albeit with a more ominous setting rather than tranquil. I find it fascinating and exhilarating how much thought and effort you put into the design. It requires quite the perspicacious mindset.
Looking forward to seeing how this project continues!
Wow, the original site seemed challenging with the amount of protected trees, but you integrated the house beautifully into the natural landscape. I also loved the way you explained the movement of light throughout the house. The refraction from the water and the shadows cast by the roof really connect the natural elements throughout the entire project.
Something I want to tell you is how you captured that feeling of pause. I’ve lived in our farm in the Philippines by the mountains and every noon, this is how it feels like. Just the leaves dancing through the wind while inside our breezy and open house, the ceiling fan is the only noise. The sun’s rays are reflecting from a mirror or the window. I live in Canada now and how I miss this feeling of slowing down and living life so much. Thank you for sharing your creativity in the world. 💖
Your videos are a reminder that there is beauty in allowing time for myself, in watching the days go by. At least to me that is. Thanks for everything you do 😇
1. Tom Scott did an episode on those little lifts, and included some history on them. It's really cool.
2. Imagine having to pee when you park your car, but you have to wait for a slow lift ride and then successfully maneuver through a labyrinth before you can get through your front door. 😂
I can't stop thinking about "maybe this movement(light) can even guide activity in the house". I don't think I will be able to look at another space without considering light in this way. Natural light is so important in bringing spaces to life, but it goes so much deeper than just more or less direct sunlight. It's not just there to illuminate a room, but to shape and move it.
That phrase will be stuck in my head for a while.
Thanks for this serene video and all your hard work!
I'm a tourist when it comes to appreciating architecture but I find it quite exciting whenever you speak about it. Your passion (and excellent production value) keeps me coming back. Please take your time with all your updates...they've been so fascinating to watch. Keep up the great work, it's incredibly inspiring.
These video updates, the details, on your first project is amazing. I love it. It goes to show how much work gets into it. I know it will be a long time til we see it finished but I can’t wait.
A couple years tend to go by very fast when designing a building 😁
Hi Dami, are there any updates on this project?@@DamiLeeArch
This video gave me some serious goosebumps. The video itself was well crafted. Using architecture to tap into, and feel passage of time. It felt like you brought a small part of cosmos into the home
It's hard to stick to one specific aspect of the design. The concept that embraces the project as a whole is charming. The house, through textures, light, sounds and paths, invites us to observe, pause, be present and all of this, I believe, brings us closer to the essence of life. I feel very happy and motivated by the possibility of being able to follow and learn from your design process. Thanks, Dami and team :)
I find the concept of time and its perception in the design really thought provoking. Curiosity and contemplation seem to play a huge role in evoking the feeling of time being slowed down and I truly admire the way you have incorporated this into your design. The complexity of the labyrinthine garden path or the placement of the pools, allowing for sunlight to interact with water, seems almost ethereal. There are so many aspects of this house (and presentation) that I find genuinely inspiring.
Great video! I'm excited to see how it progresses.
I love how each of the aspect whether it's the labyrinth or use of refraction from water or the sun dial, it is introduced specifically to achieve some purpose. But among all the these aspects my favorite part about this was the labyrinth, the path to reach the entrance, the feeling of being lost and then found, I just love it. Great work, Dami.🙌
This video is beautiful with all the meaning of the word, I'm astonished and blown away by this piece of art.
My favorite part of this video is the part about water reflection concretized the passing of time. It starts from 7:50 and goes till 8:32. The music, the quotes , the imagery; everything radiated creative brilliance. The whole video was great, as always, but that part really resonated within me.
WOW , you got a WOW Magic from the shadow. I thought this is the best presentation that I ever heard in at last year 2023.
As a co-captain of the UBC Concrete Canoe design team, your detailed explanation of your experience of the special concrete at 5:51 resonated with me.
Also your exploration of the design through all the mediums of site plans, 3d CAD models, physical models, and a site visit focused your points from perfect perspectives.
This video is so... inspiring! I love the concepts it's about, such as how quality of an experience shapes our perception of time in that moment, the creative ways of using water to light the relaxation room and designing the spaces of the house around the changing light and shade positions! Also the commentary is brilliant, I like how sometimes it sounds so poetic. We can really hear and see your passion towards what you create! I'm happy that I discovered your channel😌
The design and concept integrated to this video is sooo immersive. I’m beyond excited to see it come to life. CREDITS To the whole team. You guys are true innovators on this field. ✨
Wow!! Am very amazed!! I never tot sunlight and water could be used to create such a beautiful spectrum of mesmurising light features on walls!! And the brilliant ideal of the concrete soft wall!! So so outstanding!! Am definitely going to try it out soon!!😅
I bloody love hill houses and your design is amazing. Hillside houses always have a feeling of having your own pocket world where nobody else can get to.
It´s so cool to watch and hear your Thoughts, while your projects and some intersessting themes for our humanity !!
The flow of the home is beautiful with the light rays and the reflection of water. The only reservation I have is the means of getting to the home. I looked up the site on Google maps and can see that there is a way to get to the property from a road above. You did mention that in the video and "Yes" Orinda has a protective tree ordinance in place. But there is a clause that trees can be relocated on the property. Putting a tram from the bottom would be sketchy since the terrain is steep and the ground is loose. It is a a definitely a challenge but the home would benefit with a safe and practical means of entry.
A home that makes your life more elongated and purposeful in your being is simply amazing. If ever my family and I have the money, we will be coming to you design a home like this for us. Thank you for sharing.
I love that you're taking us along with you and diving deep into the concepts of each piece of this project. Excited to see the end product! My favorite concept is the reflective water theories. A hidden world is so cool.
Dami,
I’ve been trying to figure something out, and now I see, you have an unlimited imagination, you don’t have to think before you speak, words just flow as smooth as silk. Your friends and family are so lucky. Thank you for all your videos. You are truly blessed.
Like so many other amazing pieces of architecture, its incredible. I just wish regular people had more access to beautiful architecture. For the most part it seems to be reserved for a very lucky few.
Wow, this was such a breathtaking, riveting video! I have the attention span of toddler and yet I was completely sucked into her world!
I know why I subscribed to your channel, this was simply brilliant! Looking for more updates and projects like this one. Keep it up!
This project's embracement of experience makes it feel special. Remember as you proceed forwards that the more components of experience (like human interaction with landscape, lighting, mobility, etc.) that are integrated and intersected into the project's overall design, the more profound the outcome will be. It already looks amazing, can't wait to see the final product.
I don't know how often I look at empty lots and think of how I could design a house for that space. This was beautiful to watch.
This is an amazing house. It makes a space that slows down time and connects with nature. I love this design.
How did I not find this channel sooner?? I'm fascinated by the whole design process and love the depth of thought that goes into every decision about the house. I particularly like that, despite sight being the 'loudest' of our senses, the way in which one experiences the space through their other senses is also carefully considered.
PS: While the house slows down time, the visuals/editing of this video sure did the opposite! Presenting 15min of content in a way that feels like only 5 is an art in and of itself. Cheers! 🕓
If you’re going to have shallow pools for reflecting light onto the house, i’d recommend having a small water fall and small fish. The waterfall would be to aerate the water for the fish and the fish would eat mosquito larvae that would be in the water. Water is nice but mosquitos suck..... du dun tis (bad mosquito joke)
You guys are creating beautiful storytelling, and amazingly put together sensory videos. I’m learning so much about the thought process of architecture but then take it a step further to include concepts like time. Just great work. I’m looking forward to watch more of these !
This video and it's production should receive an award for: "best outstanding & incredibly well produced video of the year 2023".
You look great in a jacket Dami!
Saludos desde México!
Damilee, my son and I found your channel a couple of years ago and have followed your journey to going out on your own. The production quality on this video is outstanding and so happy you found Raffaele. You have assembled a good team to make your channel so inspiring. We look forward to many more videos. This one was beautiful, inspiring and thought provoking. Great presentation!!
Really well done. Thank you.
Serious genius such as yours, is why I started studying architecture, then interior and exterior design 4+ decades ago. You are living my dream, and God bless you for it.
I may have to sell my 3 decade design project because Phoenix has just become too hot, and unbearable. I cannot imagine growing older here at 120°F degrees, with 5 million more people on the roads, and we are out of water already. Then, the scorpions...invading like armies from every direction.
Age 62, is pretty old, to have to uproot, and start over after 3 decades of work, but, daily chemtrailing overhead, has domed in our Phoenix heat, increased it, and we're being radiated to death, from within our own bodies. I just ripped out 4 hideous Bougainvillea and Pomegranite, to begin my moving water walls, ponds and fountain.
Now,...after living off grid a year, I don't know what to say. This place has become Death Valley...with 6 lanes of traffic at 60mph, going anywhere.
Absolutely a “wow!” factor throughout the video. I enjoy watching the process from beginning to end on any sort of project and I remember watching your video on your site visit to the hillside. I could go on and on on how your attention to detail within the video is amazing, but what really interested me is how far you’ve come along with this project and also showing us your design process and inspirations which help you implement those ideas into your own. As many have said, props to you and the team. Can’t wait to see more!
I am so amazed! One of my dream is to live in a place with such connection with wind, water, light and sky! Congrats on your project.
Thank you Dami for being such an inspirational architect. The thoughts that guided you through the designing process are truly original. I especially liked how you connected your initial ideas for the placement of the house and the problem that sunlight seemed to cause into the main focus of the building. The concept was beautiful and I can't wait to see the progress made on this project in the future!
It's a beautiful way how thehouse is designed as it takes you away from time. Lets you relax into a slower lifestyle and lets the mind to wonder on stillness. I love the quiet space under the pool, where you can day dream .
An introverts paradise! A monastery for the soul and body in a philosophical sense, but not literal sense! ❤😂
Poetic perfection. The video has tapped a nerve in the nirvana of building an ideal dwelling. Hmmm, random idea. There must be some inspiration from the Hawaii State capital building? Another idea, wind blowing through different types of trees evoke different moods. I have always loved it when wind blows through ironwood trees vs wind blowing through coconut palm trees. Coconut leaves make a "cheap" superficial noise. Whereas wind blowing through ironwood "leaves" makes the sound of a distant far away place, evokes the feeling of a remote far away place high in the mountains.
Time has its separate existence in the long fall from cause to effect. In antiquity until today our fascination has been with the dividing of time into ever-shrinking increments. In your natural restriction of the speed of movement into and inside the structure, I think you have succeeded in your design goal to invite the guest or dweller to savor the space, and by extension the events within it. Impressive...well done! Love your channel and your work!
I like your use of water and light in this project, so creative... I hope the project hasn't changed that much, please keep the space under the pool that space is a unique space and it would be memorable for the kids
What an amazing project. I'm blown away by your skillset here, as always so professional. If I ever had the money, I'd try to hire you to design my house. Thank you for doing such a good job 🙏💐
Thank you!! 😊
i dont know why the design of the house and the story telling reminds me of the animated movie "mirai" if you havent watched it yet, and you have time, highly recommended, its also about time, memories, and the architecture of their house is absolutely beautiful
This is super deep and majestic. I admire the passion, it's like you portray something out of this world. The house is perfectly crafted.
Every home should be planned with this much care and creativity.
I loves how you integrated the 'refraxation room' into the house via steps. It really lends to the feeling that you're on a hill (while also being in a separate concept of time as you mentioned). The idea of being connected to the physical world around you while being disconnected from the construct of time just seems really cool to me. It gives a lightness to the design I can't quite describe. This video is honestly one of your best, PLEASE keep making more 🙌.
@theatharb
It is amazing) The project is so emotional, empathetic, beautiful, and functional that I can not believe it) I would like to live there.
Thanks for the update. It’s not easy to share concepts with a studio let alone the entire world.
Great work.
All I can say is , I have been challenged to, master my craft and discover in a broad sense, my passion. I could see the joy amd passion as you described your work. It was like you came alive in each step, the amount of seemingly hard work and long hours, for you unlocked a joy and expression, that is pleasent, to watch.
Thank you for doing you well.
I'm an architecture student and I have learned a lot from you, there are not enough words to thank you💙
I LOVE this kind of architecture.
Very organic while also incorporating strategically placed straight lines, and making extraordinary use of natural light for both shadow and reflection.
I'm hardly an expert in this field, but it gives me the same visceral sense of peace as some of Ed Tuttle's work.
Wow! I’m an architect in CA and really have been enjoying watching your process. I’m currently working on a couple of hillside jobs right now so I appreciate the struggle and opportunities these type of projects present. Really love the transitions and the concept of tracking the sun. Looking forward to the next video!!
Want a wonderful design. The story telling is equally wonderful. Thank you for sharing.
I think making the house blend more with it's environment would be excellent, you could do that by adding grass rooftops and falling plants all around the house to contrast the green floors more.
Grass rooftops are incredibly thick, heavy and expensive, requiring dedicated drainage systems. Not feasible for this house
I've been checking out nice housing architecture for about 15 years and this is probably the nicest design I've seen. It creates a changing yet static vibe with the water and light. It is absolutely perfect. I love you.
can’t thank you and everyone behind these works enough for everything spent on wonderful productions like this, thoroughly inspired every time!
Amazing video!
I love the holistic viewpoint on architecture. It really reminds me of ancient Greek and Japanese Architecture.
Instead of catching up on social media - do a wall sit every time you have time - it feels like time slows to a painful crawl and then you'll wish you never had free time for the rest of your life.
Just amazing. You're ideas and enthusiasm is infectious.
Wonderful video. Another torpedo shot to hurry sickness lands. Beautiful architectural concept; I really like the pause area before entering where you separate the outside from the inside. Right now I'm using a brass Victorian era pedestal table with a silver eagle on it and the entirety of my kitchen island for that function. I may try to to integrate something similar using scrap wood and an old cedar chest. Probably not, though. 🙃
I could almost feel the grass and hear the wind in the trees 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I loved this SO MUCH!! Masterclass in presenting such an incredible, well thought-out project! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
If I could just ping off ideas back and forth with you it would just be so much fun. I love you videos & your just good at being you
THIS IS HOW CHRISTOPHER NOLAN WOULD DESIGN A BUILDING IF HE WAS AN ARCHITECT
I've never thought that designing house can be this sophisticated. I can imaging the relaxation and calm feeling living in this house. Great video and great design.
Oh! Quick note: Bullwhips are a tool moreso than they are a weapon. Although if someone is
holed up behind a bar with a pistol, a bullwhip is an effective way to arch the angle of attack. #businesstips The Cincinnati Reds are a ball team in Cincinnati Ohio. They play American baseball.
I agree with everything in this statement. It's interesting that the comment escalated to some sort of life threatening occurrence inside a tavern, but this author's accurate description of what may or may not occur in such an event seems viably possible given certain conditions. The statements about baseball seem out of context, but they are simply statements. Each one appears to be accurate and non-threatening. Baseball is a sport. This person would appear to be representing themselves as potentially being a fan of sports, given certain conditions.
@BygoneBuffalo I'm in agreement with this statement as well. Also, I would like to add that I believe there may be additional humor attached to this particular comment. My reason for making that statement is the fact that the image that I'm seeing as the thumbnail is an image of Harrison Ford (American actor) in a brown hat walking through what appear to be cobwebs (perhaps produced by an arachnid of some kind). This is what appears to me to be in reference to the film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. In that film, the lead character (who is portrayed by American actor Harrison Ford at the time of the filming) does in fact brandish a bullwhip in multiple scenes throughout the film.
That home is just wow. Incredible
architecture mommy😳
It's magic how I'm not even in the house but I feel peacefull ❤
I'm torn about this project: it's a beautiful house, in a beautiful location. I also get the impression that there really is a philosophy behind it, if not some poetry. Far too often, when it comes to architecture, I have the impression that the architects only want to express their ego and then invent post facto explanations for it. It is definitely a house I would enjoy living in.
On the other hand, it is a very expensive project that only a few very privileged people can afford, and in a very isolated location. In times of housing crises, I see that as a minus. The residents will have to rely on one or more cars for the smallest errand, which is not very good for the environment. The heart says yes, the mind says no.
This project reminds me of the philosophy of slow-movement, it is quite an architectural representation of that idea. love it!
I did research around the slow movement for my thesis so you’re connecting the dots!!
Thanks!
Also, I've seen the fabric-like concrete somewhere else.. would either be Nashville or Cincinnati.. will probably come to me eventually.
Where else have I seen this fabric concrete? I can see it. I know exactly what that stuff is. Where was it...?
I love it! Very amazing. For people like me, this level of architecture is out of my means, though. So, instead of retiring with only a few million, it's better to have a few hundred million. I can guarantee you, it will be absolutely worth it to get there... no matter what.
This is totally fantastic , never really had an idea about how architecture could have such an impact , how you presented each thing was absolutely immersive ,
I’m studying architecture, still at the beginning of the course, but I was scared of not finding true inspiration and motivation to make unique designs. Everything looked the same, boring and lifeless. But your video and design showed me true care and creativity for building and creating space, so thank you.
Stunningly beautiful video: you keep getting better and better. As a Californian, I can't even begin to imagine how much this house must have cost. The client must have loved it! Your dynamic model made it very accessible to those of us who will never experience this home.
Every contents of yours are mesmerizing, soulful and magnificent.
One of the best visions. Watching this video makes me want to become an architect again. I can tell you are passionate about architecture and designing beautiful buildings. Definitely will look at your designs if I build a new home one day.
this is the first time i have left a comment on any video I think your concept of water and light is great I have been a great fan of that since I was 9. I had a west facing room with a large swimming pool just outside my bedroom. The light was amazing, I had shutters to change the light being reflected onto my celling. I don't know if you have thought about this or not. But I think it is something you should play with.
With great respect,
John Scoble
Architecture is truly beautiful…small moments like these reminds me why I chose this major
Your description of the entry reminded me how important mine is to my home. I have the shoe rack where you leave the outside behind. The narrow table where things that need to go out sit the night before. Where the keys and purse wait.
I know we all don't need "mudrooms" anymore, but I think I'd want one of I ever commissioned a home
Such a beautiful piece of art. Hope to see more!
If anyone is interested, I want to give my two cents from a Chinese feng shui perspective as it's part of our culture when designing indoor spaces.
An entrance to a living space should never directly reduce in elevation followed by a flow outward.
In this case, we have built up a natural flow of "chi" as we wrap around the garden with pathways leading up to the entrance of the house, accompanied by two bodies of water which balances the sun's energy as it showers the house. But once stepping inside, the flow of "shui" (water) or "chi" is led down the stairs like a flash flood. With nothing to hold it in place, it is poured outward through the large window panes directly across the entrance.
In simple terms, money may come in, but it is led out immediately.
Can be fixed by blocking the immediate view to the outside when stepping inside the house with blinds or a screen.
Your story telling is both inspirational and brings hope, I feel lost in time when I watch your videos.
I set a timer when I’m on social media, 30 minutes a day, only Monday thru Friday, so I don’t get lost in the abyss of scrolling.
Keep going, Keep inspiring people.
WB🤙🏽⚡️
As a builder, I love working on projects like this. My favorite space was the relaxation room, under the pool. I would have a difficult time not sleeping in that room instead of the bedroom!
I normally don't like this modern architectural style, but this! Working with the perception of time and the interactive environment that change throughout the day, I love the concept :D Thanks for sharing :D
