So that story about the adopted girl is actually something that a lot of interracial adoptions go through. I’ve even heard my friends talk about how they’re lighter skinned than their parents and would constantly have to prove that they belong to their parents. The video Dhar made is a lil stupid though because the school would ALREADY KNOW that the daughter is in an interracial home. It’s usually something that gets discussed pretty early on in the enrollment process in order to keep stuff like this from happening. His video also could have focused on the mental toll accusations like this have on the child... the video is just bad.

My uncle was homeless and, at one point, he was literally given a sandwich (from Subway I think) that had rocks in it. The two dudes who gave it to him were sitting away from him, waiting to see if he’d eat the sandwich and pick out the rocks. Also, this isn’t a super uncommon thing. Plenty of people will fuck with the homeless, so know if they refuse food-it’s for their own safety.

No most of jarvises points are just misunderstanding the message of the video. This is lost evident of the black friend one. The point of it isn’t that the mom shouldn’t be racist because he was rich, it’s because she was wrong about her stereotypes. Skin tone does not have any bearing on intelligence or wealth, and that video proved her wrong. He COULD have been poor and dumb, but then she would have been right and would continue being a racist assuming all black people are poor and dumb. The point is that by Martin being rich, it proves that skin tone doesn’t determine your wealth or intelligence, so her stereotype would be wrong.
@@carbon5525 but it still comes back to money . Even if it was about wealth transcending race and color. But I believe that based on the other videos , it was more of embarrassment for being wrong and even though it was a POC who’s wealthy when the woman is racist af , she didn’t have some revelation that black people also could rich, it’s more “shit I was wrong YOU do have money I shouldn’t have assumed you didn’t “ I forgot exactly what she actually said since I’m writing this after but either way , the main takeaway is supposed to be don’t judge a book by its cover, because the inside of the book could’ve been cut out to hold a hidden stash of gold” Basically it was more a revelation solely about how she treated Martin, not all POCs
@@carbon5525 that’s not a very accurate way to interpret racism. The way that video turned out would do nothing to challenge that woman’s view of black people as a whole. Because the thing is She doesn’t hate black people because she thinks they’re stupid and Poor, it’s the other way around. She thinks black people are stupid and poor because she has such a low opinion of them. She believes be it consciously or subconsciously that this is just how black people are, that they are simply lesser people which leads to them making less money and getting poorer grades. which is why she uses terms like “you people”. All she would’ve taken away from that kid revealing he’s smart and rich is that she should treat him differently, not all black people differently. It’s a classic case of the “you’re one of the good ones” mentality that bigots adopt when they meet someone who challenges their view of the group. Whenever they’re confronted with something that disproves their bias they view at the exception rather than the norm.
@@carbon5525 Yeah because according to your logic, black people (and every other minority, for that matter) would deserved to be mistreated for no reason other than they being a minority. UNLESS they are rich.... Ah yes makes sense.....

Dhar Mann always has the same “Don’t judge a book by its cover” lesson. He never gets to the root of the issue. Its like racism, sexism, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia, are forbidden words. The black kid was accused of stealing due to racism, and she had been racist throughout the whole video, but her kid doesn’t say “You’re being racist.” Even though it is implied, it would have more impact being spoken because even though racists are racist, they don’t like being called racist. Then the kids parents end up being rich and they apologize. And then Dhar Mann hits you with the “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” And its literally saying “Oh you can be racist..but not if their parents or they are rich.” 💀🤚🏼
You’re completing missing the point. It isn’t “oh don’t be racist because they might be rich” it’s “don’t be racist because racial stereotypes aren’t true for everybody, like it has always been the case” oh and also because it’s just a basic human thing to do. The fact that Martin was rich and smart, the opposite of the stereotype of black people being poor and dumb just proves that skin tone doesn’t determine your fate, like wealth and intelligence like the mom thought. Some people are still saying she’ll now only respect black people that are rich. Like, no, her lesson was basically that she shouldn’t judge somebody before they get to know them because racial stereotypes aren’t true for everybody. If he wasn’t rich, then she would have been proven right and no lesson learned
@@carbon5525 that's what i'm saying as well, they know the msg it was conveying but the result just turned to seem like 'dont be racist bc they might be rich' like @Perris said over here
The endings of these “don’t be racist” type of videos just feel even more racist by the end. The first one’s lesson was basically “oh if black people are rich, then you shouldn’t be racist,” and the second one’s was “if a black parent has a good enough reason, then ig don’t be racist about them adopting a white kid.” Like what
tbh all of these "morals" that they try to teach are completely ruined by their endings. Be nice to poor people, because your mom might give you a PS5. Be nice to black people, because they might be rich. Only do good when you expect a reward in the end.
the all have a toxic ending. somebody else already said this im pretty sure but giving off the ‘happily ever after’ every time isnt realistic and just shows that no matter what a person does that’s fucked up, it’s okay in the end, meanwhile in REAL life it’s nothing similar to this. not many people are that “understanding” and those bs reasons arent real reasons to be understanding for anyway.
That’s what most “anti-racist” campaigns and figures are. They just make the problem worse by trying way too hard to be ‘woke’ that they miss the whole point of discussing racism in the first place
The first ones a trip too. "Wow, that _quarter_ I gave that homeless (?) woman was worth so much to her she cried, giving a homeless person a quarter is going to change their life and also make me an amazing person. So amazing Im not even going to take my reward of a gaming system costing hundreds of dollars." They ah....they really put that kid up on a pedestal for giving those things he was going to throw out and 25 cents to homeless people. I mean...he could have gotten the PS5, sold his pS4, then used that money give that literal homeless child an entire sandwich that like, nobody at all had already ate part of. Or I dunno, I feel like if that lady was sitting in an alley with a cardboard sign just to get 25 more cents for a bus ticket like...shes going to have a multitude of problems still when she gets to her destination. I just think if you're going to make a video with a message about helping those with less than you, I dunno, maybe make it more than a half eaten sandwich and a quarter. And maybe also dont then have the homeless people be like ";_; wow this is exactly what i needed and nothing else, this stained garbage sweater you could have washed first but ok is amazing and all i needed and you, sir, are a hero. oh look the ants on the ground i sleep on are attracted to this coke stain."

People not having the privilege of having the same amount of food we have doesn't mean you need to force your kids to gorge their food which can lead to bigger health problems in the future. Of course, as a three year old maybe, you could use the "I'm full!" excuse simply to get back to what you were doing, but older kids like the one in this video know damn well what their body is telling them and how much food to take in. It doesn't mean you need to throw it away every time, as saving it for later is also an option, but forcing children to eat when they're not hungry is just not a good argument and too dangerous.
"Are you the nanny or the maid or something?" Literally happened all the time when my mom would go out with my brother cause she's dark and he's super white passing. She says that they called the cops on her in the mall once cause they thought she was kidnapping him.
Thats so insane to me! people are messed up though. My God mother is black and from Egypt I don't remember ever having this happen when I was with her. (I'm not trying to say it doesn't happe . it totally happens. I've just never seen or heard it around me to the best of my knowledge)
It's unfortunate that people's biases and colourism pop up in situations like that. My family is Asian/Latine, and my Latino (darker skin) father would get questioned about being our father when he would take my sibling to the park because my sibling was light skinned as a toddler.
This was me but on on smaller scale. My dad is white and I’m mixed. When I was little and at stores with my dad people always stared at him, assuming that I was being kidnapped instead of the possibility that he was my father.
Happened to my mom too! She has lighter skin but me and my bro are pale af! Also happened when my oldest brother and I were at a grocery store when I was little. He has darker skin and the cashier asked if I “needed help” wtf 💀
Jarvis, I'm so glad you brought up the problem with forcing a child to eat more food than they can handle. That's something I dealt with a lot as a child, and I theorize that it may have led to me having an eating disorder in middle school. Seeing you talk about it was really validating. Thanks.
What I hate about the second one is that the mom feels bad only because she realized the black kid is smart and rich. The lesson should be that even if he wasn't that smart and wasn't rich, you should still treat them with respect. All the mom learned now is: "From now on I won't be racist to all black people, just poor black people"
Racist people need continual exposure to what they're averse to, like phobia therapy. An exposure that destroys their exact bias. They meet one good human of the race they hate & think they're just the exception, then more and more until their judgement changes. So I think it's good that she sees that blacks can achieve stuff, & that's what'll start changing her. If her bias was in thinking we're all violent, then what she needed was to meet kind poc... and so on. The respect for every individual comes naturally later.
Exactly. His videos have a very toxic message. In one, it's about an overweight woman who is shamed by her husband. The story was more about kArMa, when it shouldve been about self love and acceptance
I love how they portray teens because like it makes it seem like all of us either need to be saints or extremely ungrateful so rude appreciates nothing. Like it just feels like how a 50 year old views teens
Anyone else feel like the last one was kinda racist? Like, the response to "You're a black mom to a white daughter, she should be with her own kind!" was essentially "Oh it's okay 'cause I knew her mom and she was cool with me adopting her white kid, I'm the exception." Felt like it implied she needed a REASON to have a multiracial family. Why couldn't the answer just be that she loved her and gave her a good home, and that's all that matters? Idk, kinda sus that he would write a script where the "lesson" is that a black mom can have a white kid if she was given permission by the white mom??
Right? Both videos having to do with racism are centered around the black person PROVING that you shouldn't be racist to them. Like the lesson can't just be "Don't be racist because it's flat out wrong" but it has to be "Don't be racist because he's actually RICH!" etc.

One major problem that I have with Dhar Mann videos is the following: you do *not* owe your oppressors an explanation. And if they magically respect you after they know context, all you are is an exception because you’ve proven yourself useless to them either it be money or fame. Yeah, it's supposed to be overdramaticly showing privileg. But it's stupid instead, as people aren't like that. MAYBE with the sandwich, but probably not in front of a homeless person.
@@lethfuil I disagree, I definitely think that all the things that they showed were something that a real person could do. It's not likely that the average person, or even someone more spoiled than the average person would do this, but its still quite possible. On top of that, they do have to have some sort of exaggeration to make the problems more visible and easier to understand. I get criticizing the stupidity of Dhar Man videos, but I really don't think that what the kid did in the video was one of them, it was a bit overdramatic and exaggerated, but it has to be. Most forms of entertainment have some sort of exaggeration to advance the plot, push a point, or to make it easier to understand.
I was almost convinced the first video would end with the boy giving away his dirty-old-smelly PS4 to some poor kid who held a sign saying "I need a video game, any console would help", and than being rewarded with a PS5 (I mean, it's all that was missing to empty all the slots on the inventory and finish all the quests).

@@ButterflyScarlet If the kid is distressed looks lost or doesn't interact much with the family then sure. But, if you work in an airport you're going to a bunch of different and diverse families. It's racist to pull a child away from their family just because they're a different race.
dhar mann’s videos give me the same vibe as an elementary school history class. they both discuss serious topics like racism or classism, but they portray them in a very surface-level way, sugarcoat everything, and end with everybody apologizing and forgiving eachother living happily ever after
The acting is so shitty that its annoys me. Like holy shit, everything is happening so fast. Especially that adoption one, they just want the small parts out and go to the 'most important part' so quickly makes me feel SO AWKWARD
i love the part where you said that you dont need to force your kids to eat when theyre full and that can have them develop an unhealthy relationship with food. i feel like the same kind of logic can be applied to mental health, if parents say "well others have it worse than you" then it doesnt help the kid in the long run. you saying that was such a small detail from this video but it really resonated with me, so thank you for helping me realize im not alone in having that experience as a kid :-)
absolutely! i've had suicidal thoughts since i was a young teen and i kept thinking "if im not self-harming or attempted suicide then my depression cant be that bad, right?" I'm in my 20s and am still dealing with my childhood trauma cos years of gaslighting myself into thinking i didnt have trauma delayed my recovery process
I have a very distinct memory of the last time I said "well it could be worse." My dad had been admitted to the hospital and was about to be diagnosed with cancer. Just because someone else is struggling doesn't mean you aren't or shouldn't be.
It’s such a small detail, but it’s an important detail. You can’t just guilt a kid into eating everything you’ve given them. Overeating is an issue, too.
The mom's logic of "some people don't get enough to eat" is as bizarre as "there are people who don't get access to a movie theater, so you habe to go watch every movie that's released." Parents do get worried though, and undereating is just as much of an issue, especially for children. If they've barely eaten half a sandwich and they're full, and that goes on for a while, I'd say instead of forcing them to eat specific things or letting them eat however they want, go see a professional. Find out if there's a problem, physical or emotional, and work together, not against each other.
this is actually a huge reason why some children are at higher risk for obesity. children who are taught to eat til their plate is clean will actually learn to ignore their biological cues for being full and hungry. they struggle with the concept of a full belly vs empty and have to learn it from scratch as they get older. same applies to mental health. if you’re always taught that you’re not as sad as you could be, you’ll learn to ignore your biological cues for when you’re actually in a crisis situation. sometimes our environments will cause us to override our internal compasses.

"Toxic positivity" is the perfect phrase to describe these types of videos. Good messages executed lazily and immaturely. Great video as usual 👌
But I believe that based on the other videos , it was more of embarrassment for being wrong and even though it was a POC who’s wealthy when the woman is racist af , she didn’t have some revelation that black people also could rich, it’s more “shit I was wrong YOU do have money I shouldn’t have assumed you didn’t “ I forgot exactly what she actually said since I’m writing this after but either way , the main takeaway is supposed to be don’t judge a book by its cover, because the inside of the book could’ve been cut out to hold a hidden stash of gold”
Basically it was more a revelation solely about how she treated Martin, not all POCs
@@fadeuhhway nah

So amazing Im not even going to take my reward of a gaming system costing hundreds of dollars."

Of course, as a three year old maybe, you could use the "I'm full!" excuse simply to get back to what you were doing, but older kids like the one in this video know damn well what their body is telling them and how much food to take in. I agree. The message of that video ended up not being "don't be racist" but turns out to be "don't be racist to kids whose parents own teslas"
Exactly.

Survival of the fittest kid
It’s funny because not everyone in Africa is poor.

If they didn’t respect you before they knew context, they won’t respect you after they know context. And if they magically respect you after they know context, all you are is an exception because you’ve proven yourself useless to them either it be money or fame. You are not an exception, you are a human being and *that* is enough context for someone to respect your basic being. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for you being you.

You start out in 1954 by saying, “N*gger, n*gger, n*gger.” By 1968 you can’t say “n*gger”-that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N*gger, n*gger.”

- A quarter fell out of my pocket 😡
I've never had any of that shit ever happen to me
@@trollrat2828 you’ve never gotten full before you finished your food?
@@MattBnl2ih I mean yeah but most people would just take it home and eat it for lunch tomorrow
My friend is Chinese and her parents and siblings are white, and multiple times she’s been pulled aside at airports and interrogated to see if she’s being smuggled. It’s been very frustrating for her and it can take ages to convince TSA that they are her parents.
But at least in those situations it's not a rude random lady, it's a security guard who is simply trying to protect a child. Trafficking is a big problem so in that situation is better safe than sorry.
@@whatdoahknow3173 mean it's still racist, but at least it's not some random girl saying haha blacks are gay. The security guard at least is doing a more respectable job
I know. Jarvis thinks this is really unrealistic and dramatized but honestly...it isnt
@@grim1044 It's not necessarily racist. Yes there are interracial families, but it's better to err on the side of caution because human trafficking is a huge problem.
I'm not saying there isn't some element of racism, but it's not exactly a clear cut, black and white case.
@@ButterflyScarlet If the kid is distressed looks lost or doesn't interact much with the family then sure. But, if you work in an airport you're going to a bunch of different and diverse families. It's racist to pull a child away from their family just because they're a different race.
the homeless people are like the ghosts of christmas past, present, and future

Wow this is a well made comment (not sarcasm) , but I agree
Homeless people are just there to teach us a lesson.
@@kareraisuderp97 Indeed a very valuable one
dhar mann’s videos give me the same vibe as an elementary school history class. they both discuss serious topics like racism or classism, but they portray them in a very surface-level way, sugarcoat everything, and end with everybody apologizing and forgiving eachother living happily ever after
The natives gave the pioneers corn :)
I couldn't quite put my finger on it but that was exactly the vibe I felt when I watched his videos too
The acting is so shitty that its annoys me. Like holy shit, everything is happening so fast. Especially that adoption one, they just want the small parts out and go to the 'most important part' so quickly makes me feel SO AWKWARD
Sometimes I am frustrated by my younger brother’s superficial understanding of complex issues, but he’s only 10. Dhar Mann is allegedly an adult.
Ah yes happy endings are historical accurate.
I can’t be the only one who watched that second video and thought Brayden and Martin were secret boyfriends
Their actors do tons of videos together. If one of them is in the video, 90% chance the other one is in it too. It’s very funny
Ikr???
i love the part where you said that you dont need to force your kids to eat when theyre full and that can have them develop an unhealthy relationship with food. i feel like the same kind of logic can be applied to mental health, if parents say "well others have it worse than you" then it doesnt help the kid in the long run. you saying that was such a small detail from this video but it really resonated with me, so thank you for helping me realize im not alone in having that experience as a kid :-)
absolutely! i've had suicidal thoughts since i was a young teen and i kept thinking "if im not self-harming or attempted suicide then my depression cant be that bad, right?" I'm in my 20s and am still dealing with my childhood trauma cos years of gaslighting myself into thinking i didnt have trauma delayed my recovery process
The mom's logic of "some people don't get enough to eat" is as bizarre as "there are people who don't get access to a movie theater, so you habe to go watch every movie that's released."
Parents do get worried though, and undereating is just as much of an issue, especially for children.
