Shouldn't you also short rather than broad light her to slim her even more (turn her facing away from main light)?
Jose Castro she is being short lit. Her shadow side is toward the camera

If the photographer is already noticeably taller then the subject: can you overdo it with the apple box?
Try it out. Otherwise, what does "noticeably taller" mean? Take a few shots from different heights, compare, see what you like... nobody else knows what you like anyway.
It tends to be a confidant woman who will come to the photographer regardless of figure. But how does the photographer get around the notion of the individual's belief in their best features. This goes for men too. Their wives slash partners may have told them that their crooked smile, miss matched eyes or pointed chin is their stand out feature and then insist you incorporate them. Do you try to softsoap, flannel and convince or simply reach for the long lens.
