In his own unique and original way, Nugget conducts a review of the 2022 Royal Enfield Himalayan drawing on his experiences of riding the bike in the Himalayan Mountains when the bike was first released in 2016.

Review was spot on in my opinion gents. I’ve owned a ‘21 model for nearly a year as my intro bike to adv riding. Accessible. affordable comfortable . Commute on it to work during the week, get out on the dirt on the weekend. Eventually I know I’ll want something more but for now I am loving this bike.
Great to hear this type of feedback. We try to keep it real.
I got a himalayan coming off an old r1200gs. The running costs were just too high on the beemer. It surprises me how close the Himmy comes in tems of comfort to the GS

I bought one of these earlier this year. Sold my Honda Shadow and absolutely love this style and currently learning gravel and dirt roads. Who would have thought a woman in her 50s would decide to start riding and planning around Australia touring!

I have a 2020 model and as someone who just gets into offroading, it is super confidence inspiring and fun bike to ride! It is not the most capable off-roader or the most comfortable tourer but it is a do-it-all versatile bike. Love the retro look which is unique in its category

It's a solid bike That can do the tough stuff.
Just back from Morocco on a 5 days tour. Rented a brand new Himalayan, and I completly agree with your and Nugget's comments. Riding all day on it, confortable, it just potter along.
For an analogy, it's a mule, competitors are horse race breed. No fuss but it does the job all day long.

Great video, great bike. Love the channel. I’ve had my Himalayan for about a year and a half and just rolled over to 16,000 miles taking a 1200 mile trip last weekend the last day of which was 12 hours and 700 miles mostly on the freeway. That’s not how I always ride but the bike did fine and I have lloved all 16,000 miles of riding. I’ve had almost no issues either.
From my experience, most people are right about the bike, it’s slow, it’s just right, it’s comfortable, it’s inexpensive, it’s cheap. It’s all how you look at it. If you want a bike that goes anywhere and does anything albeit a bit slowly , it’s a pretty good bet for fewer dollars than most.

What year is your Himi and what did you have to replace in the 16k miles?
@@blader947 The motorcycle is a 2020. I replaced the chain and sprockets at about 10,000 miles I think. I ride super easy and so the sprockets didn’t have much wear, but the chain was pretty much fully stretched out.
I changed out the stock Perelli tires after about 7000 miles I think. I changed them for. Motoz. The Perelli’s were very good on the road and on gravel, but anything wet and slippery not so much. The Motoz have been great on pretty much every surface.
I know those are service items. I did have some issues with the bike starting at one point and replaced a couple relays under the seat which fixed that.
For some weird reason the rear brake light bulb blew out twice. I put an LED bulb in now and it seems to be working OK.
I did manage to strip out both of the bolts that hold down the rearward end of the fuel tank. I over torqued them and the metal seems a bit soft. I had to helicoil them which is working fine.
I have managed to kill the battery several times, not by leaving on accessories, but by letting the bike sit for a week or so after having run the battery down a bit using heated gear. That said it does charge up just fine, and if I don’t use the heat gear or if I keep it charged it’s totally fine. When I’m on the road riding day to day it hasn’t give me any trouble.
I’m sitting here racking my brain trying to think of anything else, and there is nothing else I think that’s it. The bike has just been incredibly reliable I don’t really think about it. I just get on it and go.😀.
@@starlordstarlordman8489 Well I would say that is not much at all, I have seen about changing out those relays and removing the excess grease to solve starting/stalling issues plus eliminating evap system. I also seen that gear shifter indicator is wired to rectifer and causes the parasitic drain you are having. Are you happy with the EFI, seems like better for elevation, but some have installed carb kit? It is good to see some real miles on a BS6 and gives confidence to a 2020 V Strom xt owner looking into one of these.

You’ve reminded me though that my fuel level indicator is a bit weird and has been since I got the bike. I’m so used to it I’d forgotten. It doesn’t really indicate a change in fuel once I fill it up until I use about a quarter tank and then it sort of gets itself right.
The EFI, as far as I can, tell, is fabulous, no starting issues when it’s cold, I’ve ridden it in freezing weather multiple times no problem. I haven’t been very high in the mountains, not more than 4000 feet probably but it’s run fine. The throttle response is great for me. It’s slow and steady and doesn’t have any non-linearity .
As far as the carb versus EFI, I would say I’ve watched so many videos on issues to do with motorcycles, and this one strikes me as one that people like to talk about, but strangely, I don’t see a lot of data and so since haven’t heard a bunch of stories about it stranding people I’m guessing there’s more smoke than fire in that story. Just my thoughts.
Rode the 2016 model to Eastern Himalayas (
Sikkim) and it did exceedingly well. A few months ago took the 2022 model to the Ladakh sector with a pillion and it didnt skip a beat.
As you've summed it right - a bike that makes you smile and thats enough for a motorcyclist.

Khardung la is no longer the highest motorable road in the world. It has been taken over by Umling La in Eastern Ladakh at 19,200ft. I intend take the Himalayan up there next year. Will keep you updated. Join me if you want :)

Got a 22 model in march, now 9500 km on it. Did 880 km german highway in 10 hours, went to Croatia, Austria, Italy, Slowenia and Norway. No breakdowns yet 😂. Easy to work on. The 450 Himalayan is tempting…a little bit more horsepower would be great, especially here in germany.

I agree, don't throw money at the Himalayan, enjoy it as it is, a go-anywhere bike at traveling speed, NOT dual sport speed.
Traveling speed is slower so you don't get hurt or break the bike when you are alone and days away from help.
Dual sport speed is much faster, carrying much less, and not too far from help.

I'm a absolute beginner looking at a Himalayan and DLR650. Always thought I'd be picking the Himalayan but recently I've been reading reviews noting that the bike rusts very quickly. Living right on the coast I'm thinking the DLR650 might be a better long term bike (I realise it's heavier and bigger but was thinking I would grow into it)? Any advice? I'm 5'10 and about 73kg's

You need to test ride some different bikes and find what you feel comfortable with. Lots to choose from that are all pretty good.
From my experience with my 2017 Himi (2 years) I haven't experienced any rust issues. The DR seems a good option but being taller it will be more of a handful off road and won't handle shingle as well. The lower Himalayan really does do well on shingle. Honestly for a self confessed absolute beginner I'd go with the Enfield until you need to progress
I'm thinking that with all the trails you have there and the bikes you are getting lately we're all getting a bit spoilt, and long may it continue! How's the little red rooster doing lately?
Final episode on that in a couple of weeks, just want to take it on a final ride.
I think it's a great little bike. Not high performance by any means. But great value for the price. I know a guy who has one. Admits it could use about 5 more hp. But it gets like >70 mpg. And he's not a small guy.
It does the job. Lots of fun to be had.
So Dave, for your money, would you go for the KLR or the Himalayan?
Too close, both good for the price.
Own one explored most of colorado with it- does need more power but if you take your time it'll do whatever any other will do, plus it beats the tw200 style bikes & will carry more than the little 250 dual sport plastic bikes

A friend of mine owns a 2019 model and he's not impressed at all by that... It lacks power, especially considering 200kg of weight, build materials are low quality and prone to breaking a lot and its reliability leaves a lot to be desired overall.

Yes, I think this is a very good idea. I have ridden all three models extensively. The time has come.
I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but on the off chance you see this....would I be completely insane to replace my WR250R with a Himalayan? Hear me out...I just like crusing around at a modest pace, and I'm really sick of being tippy toes on the WR...a nagging ankle injury doesn't help, nor does the WA pea gravel...it would be nice to be able to put a whole foot down. I've test ridden a Himalayan in the city, and the low revving engine was a bit of a shock...funnily enough, I reckon I'd probably prefer the RE in dirt, but the WRR is way more fun for hooning about the city.
