The best Bike World episode ive ever seen. You dont need to travel across the world or spend a lot of money to have an amazing time on a bike. You just have to get out and do it
Nice one guys, I've been trying to decide between these two bikes and your efforts have simplified the choice. Think it's going to be the Himalayan, hits the sweet spot for the type of riding I do here in the back blocks of Albany, Western Australia. keep up the great work!
Here an Himalayan owner. That s true. Its a happy ever going machine!. Neverdeless i truly miss the power mostly on pavement roads. Cruising at 100-120 km h, is a little bit annoying (yamaha r1 owner as well)
This was one proper adventure. The KTM certainly has the big bike character. The Himalayan though, has got a different charm altogether. I am a bit of an old school and i would pick the Himalayan any day! Great video! Loved every minute of it! Cheers!
The KTM is more for road fun and a little of adventure while the Himalayan is more suited for adventure but less for road use. I wish they make a 500cc version of the Himalayan because in my opinion that will be the best adventure bike to go all around the word.
Himalayan is like mountain goat 🐐 can go anywhere and can carry loads of stuff with it like a tractor. The sturdiness and build quality is excellent and give confidence in off road trails. The sound is mesmerizing , I never fell as I'm alone.
Good God those KTM's are ugly. The Enfield is an "ugly duckling"? Looks are subjective, but to me the Enfield looks like a real motorcycle, not a transformer toy. Nice review, Himmy all the way. Slow technical riding - low down torque beats high rev bhp everytime. That KTM has a mag alloy 19" front wheel, just wrong KTM, just wrong.
Ktm adv is not a complete off road bike. It's more suitable for highway cruise. Himalayan may be good on off road but after 100 km/hr vibrations builds up. But ktm runs like butter even in 140s. Ktm also has more features.
What great times for motorcycling! We even have good small engine ADV's to chose from. No longer are we forced to wrestle 1200+cc up a rocky hill. Light and nimble is the way to go for some light-medium of road trails.
You have never been forced to, you just followed the hype, bikes like Honda xr400, xr650L Yamaha xt660 xtz250 drz400 dr350 dr650, klr 250, klr 650, were the adventure bikes of the past just didn’t had the hype
@@BBR-sp5qt If those japanese manufacturers refreshed those bikes people would have more interest. Some of the bikes you listed haven't had simple updates riders beg for in decades. Meanwhile, the european brands keep innovating and releasing new bikes every year.
Rein Hart I agree with you, instead of that Japanese brands are making bland street bikes disguised as adventure bikes, I think in the past were called dual sport bikes; Kawasaki are trying to fill the gap of the klr 650 with the versys 300, In some markets suzuki stop selling dr and drz and selling the vstrom 250. I like the ktm 390 but I would like a little more off road of it, the RE seems really under power regardless the torque every people here talk about it, Indian people claim is a tourer, and maybe for India it is they don’t go more that 100kms/hr. But in many countries we need at least 120-130 to talk about touring, in the segment 250-500 cc I think the ktm could be the one, because of power-weight ratio
So, if I want to do 120kms/hr should get a street bike? The Himalayan is the only one adv bike over the 300cc can’t do it. Lightweight?? It’s heavier than a suzuki dr650 or about the same as a klr650 with half the power and torque, I really want to like the RE, but it needs more power, if RE put the 650 twin on it, they will hit the sweet spot of medium light adv bikes
Himmy owner here, I think the appeal to it tho is that so many have been sold during the time when everyone heard the rumors of the 390 adv coming soon yet so much of the capabilities of the REH have been shown, its simple and very easy to operate. During that time its pretty much established itself as the mini KLR650 and the fact that its more of an older design and that maintenance is easier. For the price of the KTM tho, you can get the panniers and some add-ons, like a chip, to help it reach the higher speed limits. To me the simplicity and ease of riding, where its difficult to get into trouble, are the key features. I'd love to try a KTM tho...
bibhas roy I don’t think you understood my comment. I know where the bikes are assembled. My comment refers to the capability of the rider being the limitation, not the capability of the bikes.
The power comes at really low rpm thats why it could chuck well and keeping going. I have ridden it in Himalayalas in north sikkim "Gurudongmar" as well as Tawang, Arunachal "go chela pass". It really is good offroading bike.
Go HIMALAYAN I myself own the Latest 2020 RE Himalayan BS-6 Version (in India) with Better Refinement, a Switchable ABS Switch On Console, better Color Scheme (Rock-Red), and A Better Throaty Exaust from Factory, and awesome feel!
@@iam7382 Bro. If you have Budget then Go For KTM adventure. I loved the Himalayan for What it's good at. But I miss what's not it's good at - e.g. KTM can cruise happily at 120 while HIMALAYAN is capable to do 120 but I am Happy Cruising it around 80-95 kmph. On highways. Because 1. High speed is Not Allowed on Indian Highways. 2. You better ride safely, rash driving Challans are issued to everyone driving over 100 kmph. 3. Himalayan has 5 gears vs 6 gears on KTM. The Himalayan is a more traditional proven 4-5 year Refined bike with International Moto Vlogger Vouching for it's reliability after doing World Trip over this Machine. But In the End you should Decide what u want. kTM is a more faster and equally capable bike. Even though as a Adventure bike the Traditional design of Himalayan has many pros, but so does the Funky design and Ktm Duke inspired ktm Adventure has it's pros. In the End if You can't decide think this - does the 1.5 Lakh make "You" a better driver or more adventerous and the answer is no - It is you Mister and what u do with either a ₹42,000 bike or a ₹2.40 lac Himalayan or a ₹3.5 lakh KTM adventure duke That matters. The only thing that will change is the speed when u reach the destination and the comfort. If you just want to travel the World, My Solid advice is Buy a Hero Xpulse 200. And Use it, Spend the other 1 lakh on Roaming around India Instead of Begging parents for More Money because u spent 3.5 lakhs on a KTM because it had more gears and more flashy.

Looks like a great day fellas! And nice video! I'm a little biased, but it's good to see people come to the realization that the Himalayan is simply a capable and fun bike, especially for the money.

Have about 600 miles on it, riding stuff that I am not sure if I should be riding and probably going thru gnarly spots to fast but having to much Fun.. I was concerned about the brakes but I am used to them now and they aren't bothering me a bit.
Have ridden both the bikes and now I own KTM ADV and loved how the video covers almost all aspect. The best part was both these bikes were tested the right("Adventurous") way. Looking forward to more videos.
You are the only reviewer on the entire internet that considers the Himalayan "ugly". Never heard a single person in any comment section refer to it as ugly, everyone loves the looks of all things :/
I did a fly and ride for 16 days in the Himalayas, on a Himalayan. Very nice bike for all day comfort and capable of traversing anything that can be called a track or road. I would love for it to have just 5-10 more horsepower, it would make it more enjoyable on road and och nice gravel roads. It is a bit sluggish in standard trim. But for just plodding along, I can't think of any NEW bike in the price range that can beat it.
Fellas, I myself just bought the 390 after a decade+ on a 09 KLR650. Agreed! Very fun bike. Has surprised me every time I take it out for an adventure. Point to make, adjust the handlebars more forward then it came. Easier for stand riding. Plus the armor upgrade (skid plate) has been on back order for 6 months now. Really would like to take it places my KLR went but not until armor is in place. Keep Moving Forward!
Nice to see you guys trash them around, I like both of the bikes but I would rather go with the Royal Enfield only because they seem big and have that engine which keeps going..☺️👍🏼
Stumbled across this video while checking out info for the Himalayan and I have to say, you did a bloody good job. I thoroughly enjoyed it and subbed to make sure I don't miss your next outdoor adventure. Cheers!
This was fun to watch.. pretty good and straightforward, no gimmicks. Just one clarification though - the latest Himalayan Bs6 variant has switchable ABS.
Great video. I used to ride a Triumph Tiger Trail 750 through stuff like that in the 80s with the muffler off. I had to pick up a guy with an injured arm after he decked his Yamaha 400. He thought I was going to stall it going up a rugged trail. Told him I was taking it slow because of his arm, opened it up . Tall gearing, single carb..no worries. The other group heard the Tiger coming through the bush, they thought what the hell was that. In Australia Himalayan’s go for about Aus $6,700.
I think what makes these bikes way more capable off road is the price, it's not a tragedy if they fall like a 24k GS, which makes you push harder in comfort, Great video.
Almost got fixed to buy KTM 390, but this video is giving me second thoughts to re think about THE Himalayan. What a video man, really awesome, never seen such kind of review 👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥
I got the KTM 390 Adventure and am loving it, got 3,500 + Km on so far, still waiting for the better bash plate, before taking it on the rough stuff, I wanted to put bar risers on but when tried could only go with 10 mm and then had to have the hand guards way to low. But after checking it out found out that they put the wrong hand guards on. Going in Monday to see if they will get me the wright ones for the 390. That is the only thing I would like to change is get the handle bars up a bit higher. Ok sitting but when standing they are too low for me. I also went with the Dunlop TrailMax Mission tires, finding them very good on the paved and on the gravel roads. Again thanks for the video, it is nice to see what that bike can do, witch is more than I will ever try, but will be hitting some light single track and very rough gravel and dirt roads, now that I see it can handle them.
Whisper it, but the Royal Enfield is monstrously good, if you aren’t in a hurry. It’s a two wheeled Land Rover Defender. Also, there is a switch on it to turn off the rear ABS on newer models. Also, this is a really nice road bike too! If you like to enjoy a relaxed ride in the country. Perfect antidote to modern life. This is one of my retirement bikes….Nuff said.
Love the KTM! What you did to these two street bikes was ridiculous and impressive at the same time! Proves you don’t have to have 100hp and $30 grand to have fun!
From the video, what I understood: 1. KTM performed as expected. It justified the tag and performed great overall. It's nimble, lightweight and you can throw it around without a sweat 2. The Himalayan just about manages to hold it's ground. It doesn't disappoint anywhere, but it isn't really great at anything either. It basically does the job. All the Indian reviewers have been bashing the KTM unnecessarily when most of them can't ride off-road. Most of them can't even ride on the track and have little to no skills barring a very few guys. The Himalayan although nice, is like a budget smartphone. It does the job. KTM is more like that mid tier phone that offers a lot of things, is good at lot of them as well but isn't really flagship.
I love my Himalayan. The looks, the agricultural ride, the not highway allowed, the low torque..... It is amazing. I also love my KTM 1290 Super Adventure R, the power, that ride modes, the technology, the brakes, suspension, the 160hp..... Both are amazing, but the Himalayan will stay with me forever... It is a tractor and you are not afraid to take her anywhere or worry about damage or not been able to get back on the rode
The new Himalayan (BS6 Version) gets switchable ABS and it remains so even after getting switched off. And i think you guys were the 1st person i heard liking riding ergonomic of KTM than himalayan. Anyway good video guys, loved it♥️
@शिरीष ರಾಮಾಯ i think he might have got it wrong. It's universal, whenever we get a bad terrain we'll saddle(bikers) and on a normal smooth road, e.b will sit and ride like normal people
Chris & Neil are two of my favourite rider and presenters on the internet.. absolutely cool blokes and brilliant riders! Watching them ride together is so much fun.
Reading through all the comments and there seems to be a very strong following for the REH! Maybe more manufacturers should take note and offer more bikes at sensible prices! I road tested the Himalayan and on the read at least it was very good.
I rode himalayan & ktm 390adv extensively. I own 390adv(2022 model) . If any body has low budget go for himalayan but if they can save some bucks go with 390 adv that would be a smart move. You ask me why? Because my 390 adv is completely different from the stock one. I added 2 inch handle bar raisers, Off road 21inch & 18 inch spoke tubeless wheels,Softer adjustable Suspension upgrade,Ground clearance - 230mm .I use stock only for touring. I use powertronic ecu, bmc air filter, njk spark plug, fuel x pro & I must say I don't experience any low end torque issues it's completely gone. Nor did I face any electronics issue. I am 6 foot 4 & I rode himalayan as well it is a very good bike nevertheless to say it has some quality issues,Bs6 have minimal issues. You can type chassis & cone set breaking of himalayan & you will find dozens of videos online. I agree himalayan has low end torque but with few mods you can increase the low end of 390 adv too. Himalayan is sloth on highway & the breaking is avg, it's weight will make you think twice to take it to some slopy areas. My 390 adv 2022 model MTC doesn't reset every time (if old model stock ecu v11 upgrade)& gets new off road mode. One must understand that the stock tyres are 85% off road. There is no bike in India under 10 lakhs which provides you lean sensitive trackion control for 4.2 lakhs inr with tonnes of electronic aids. My bike clocks 175 kmph top speed & I believe it can go further more. One must understand if any one buys himalayan that would be his B category or C category bike or if himalayan is the only bike he owns then soon he will upgrade to something more powerful & packed with features. The fundamental difference :- Shelling some additional bucks on 390 adv one can make it a do it all bike & this bike can do everything that a himalayan does but how much ever you upgrade the himalayan it can never be close to the power to weight ratio of a ktm 390 adv. End of the day you may have any bike it all depends on how you understand that bike & use your skills. By the way I am from India 😉👍.
Guyz, extremely well done. Videography is amazing. (Thank the staff). Very usable knowledge imparted. Direct synopsis in front of camp fire. You rock. Have more.
I'm a proud owner of an 2019 bs4 Himalayan, 31.000 km w/o any issues. This bike can go anywhere. And I don't think is ugly, maybe is weird looks but not ugly, wherever I park it people came to ask about it and even take pictures. It has some issues like the side stand needed to be change the angle as bike tends to fall of, the front light is too heavy so the plastic case broke, also the turn lights are not flexible so they also broke. I've repair the front light with glue and some black duck tape and issue solved and used black electric tape so the turn light become flexible. The wind protection should be a bit higher. You did not mention de dash compass, some think is silly but I've use it instead of gps and never got lost if you know how to navigate it is very usefull. Great mileage per fuel litre, cheap parts and very easy to service the engine.
I liked the Himalayan the first day I saw one. Handsome thing. And so did Itchy Boots! :) Going to be my next bike. Dual purpose bikes suit where I live (kiwiland) and a 400cc thumper is just enough and not too much. And they just have to be the best bang for your buck around. And proven.

Nice one guys, I've been trying to decide between these two bikes and your efforts have simplified the choice. Think it's going to be the Himalayan, hits the sweet spot for the type of riding I do here in the back blocks of Albany, Western Australia. keep up the great work!
Himalyan for me, much affordable, and felt almost equall to the 390 adv
Much easier to do DIY repairs on Himalayan too
Here an Himalayan owner. That s true. Its a happy ever going machine!. Neverdeless i truly miss the power mostly on pavement roads. Cruising at 100-120 km h, is a little bit annoying (yamaha r1 owner as well)
Dude it's not a track based machine. Himalayan has enough low end torque, it's a truly off-road and also a turing machine.
Does it easily go up to 100 kmph ?

This was one proper adventure. The KTM certainly has the big bike character.
The Himalayan though, has got a different charm altogether. I am a bit of an old school and i would pick the Himalayan any day!
Great video! Loved every minute of it!
Cheers!
The KTM is more for road fun and a little of adventure while the Himalayan is more suited for adventure but less for road use.
I wish they make a 500cc version of the Himalayan because in my opinion that will be the best adventure bike to go all around the word.

Man ktm is fabir Himalayan is metal....

Rein Hart
I agree with you, instead of that Japanese brands are making bland street bikes disguised as adventure bikes, I think in the past were called dual sport bikes; Kawasaki are trying to fill the gap of the klr 650 with the versys 300, In some markets suzuki stop selling dr and drz and selling the vstrom 250.
So it’s the best adv bike because a youtuber did like it? Bike is heavy and underpowered, I love the look of it, but need more power
KTM Duke 390 for road and Himalayan everywhere else. Brilliant video 👍

I myself own the Latest 2020 RE Himalayan BS-6 Version (in India) with Better Refinement, a Switchable ABS Switch On Console, better Color Scheme (Rock-Red), and A Better Throaty Exaust from Factory, and awesome feel!
Hi what do you think RE Himalayan is better then spending 1.5lakhs more for ktm adventure ?

Thank you for clearing out my doubts on Himalayan Brothers.. Love from 🇮🇳
very ice video. brain says ktm, heart says himalayan.
Absolutely loved it. No ranting about the cheap price, or low power, Just an open minded review. Loved it.
The Himalayan is a looker - a future classic like the Defender
People who call the Himalayan ugly and consider the KTM hot, deserve no respect.
It's only the Chapri Tiktokers claiming that 😂
Why ? Beauty is subjective.
Fellas,
I myself just bought the 390 after a decade+ on a 09 KLR650.
Cheers!

Thanks for doing a small adventure bike Justice. Got the KTM myself and loving it.
You should call it Bike World's "Two Nuts One Rut."
I saw a Himalayan in a car park two days ago. I am test riding one tomorrow. For me the Himalayan is beautiful and totally functional.
I think what makes these bikes way more capable off road is the price, it's not a tragedy if they fall like a 24k GS, which makes you push harder in comfort, Great video.
I've been eyeballing the huski 401, I really think the Himalayan is gonna do it for me
Almost got fixed to buy KTM 390, but this video is giving me second thoughts to re think about THE Himalayan.
I'm here to watch Himalayan 😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Whisper it, but the Royal Enfield is monstrously good, if you aren’t in a hurry. It’s a two wheeled Land Rover Defender. Also, there is a switch on it to turn off the rear ABS on newer models. Also, this is a really nice road bike too! If you like to enjoy a relaxed ride in the country. Perfect antidote to modern life. This is one of my retirement bikes….Nuff said.

Not exactly, himalayan on road price INR 230K, KTM ADV 390 on road price INR 350k
@Tarun Kumar yeah, himalayan is more suitable for Indian roads and value for money too
Love the KTM! What you did to these two street bikes was ridiculous and impressive at the same time! Proves you don’t have to have 100hp and $30 grand to have fun!
From the video, what I understood:
1. KTM performed as expected. It justified the tag and performed great overall. It's nimble, lightweight and you can throw it around without a sweat
An average indian biker is skilled, we don't need to go off-road!
If an Indian biker doesn't know how to ride then no one does.
Lovin my KTM 390 for 10 months now and also tried riding RE Himalayan. Great reviews based on real world adventure experience.
Love the Himalayan motorcycle....it looks good and works so well!
Great video guys!! I own a Himalayan and love every bit of it. Its a bit slower but can climb anywhere!
One thing is that, stand and ride scenario in India is different..We are bit short people and the Himalayan is designed with that in mind.😊

I road tested the Himalayan and on the read at least it was very good.
Got my Himalayan 2022 edition and quite excited to start my journeys with it.
Good luck!
The fundamental difference :-
Shelling some additional bucks on 390 adv one can make it a do it all bike & this bike can do everything that a himalayan does but how much ever you upgrade the himalayan it can never be close to the power to weight ratio of a ktm 390 adv.
