Spring was never waiting for us, girl It ran one step ahead As we followed in the dance Between the parted pages and were pressed In love's hot, fevered iron Like a striped pair of pants MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no! I recall the yellow cotton dress Foaming like a wave On the ground around your knees The birds, like tender babies in your hands And the old men playing checkers by the trees MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no! There will be another song for me For I will sing it There will be another dream for me Someone will bring it I will drink the wine while it is warm And never let you catch me looking at the sun And after all the loves of my life After all the loves of my life You'll still be the one I will take my life into my hands and I will use it I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it I will have the things that I desire And my passion flow like rivers through the sky And after all the loves of my life Oh, after all the loves of my life I'll be thinking of you And wondering why MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no! I remember listening to this song when I was little. Although I enjoyed the heavily orchestrated sound, I had been wondering for many decades about the cake that was mentioned. I have wondered about the significance of the cake in this song. It was in the early 90’s when I found out about the significance and it was explained by Richard Harris. He explained that the cake represented the love between two people who built it together only for it to be left be abandoned and wasted. Thank you, Richard.
All my life I have waited for THIS, and not some abbreviated 'Karaoke' version. This is utterly PERFECT. Lord, dispatch my chariot... I am FINALLY ready to return home! ------ Rev. Jimmy
A classic with Richard Harris’ vocal. Now this, a brilliant standalone example of superb musicianship, glorious on its own enormous merit. Thank you for sharing it, it’s perfect.
@@joeywisedrums they are - it’s just very difficult to sing about being pressed in “love’s hot fevered iron like a stripéd pair of pants” without giggling
Richard Harris: “MacArthur’s Park is melting in the dark.” Mr. Harris, could you please say “MacArthur Park” instead? Richard Harris: “That’s what I said, “MacArthur’s Park.” “OK, perfect.”
Hi Derian, I have a question. Is this backing from the multitrack master or was it achieved by software which effectively deletes the vocal? If it's the latter, you've done an amazing job to get the backing track so clean. Thanks for posting it.
This is a magnum opus, never realized how spectacular this backing track is, standing by itself. Thank you so much for posting.
Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh no!
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one
I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
Oh, after all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again

So many people mock this song without a clue as to the use of metaphor. It's a beautiful song both in terms of the music and the lyrics.
Agreed. @@GoPokes227049

well, not to crap on anyone's sublime memories, but back when I was an on-air dj, cuing up "MacArthur Park" meant only one thing: BATHROOM BREAK!
yup !
In a goda vida meant dinner...
Who threw that brick?
Damn that’s sad
This track makes me realize how great this arrangement truly was. Jimmy Webb's head was on fire during this period.
As much as I clown on the lyrics of this song, it is spectacular. I ADORE the section starting at 4:53, it’s so dramatically moving.
Why clown? They’re just as dramatic as the song imo

This was a radio hit back in the day when I was a kid, AM radio, lol, loved it then, still do.
Wonderful work you did. There is a parody titled "Muck-arty Park" by Soupy Sales, which you MUST hear.
The uptempo section of "MacArthur Park" was the theme music for "The Lou Gordon Program" on Detroit's WKBD TV Channel 50.
A perennial, incredibly moving Masterpiece!
I love this song
no matter what people say about the lyrics.
Somebody from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice?
Here!
Of course
You know, Jurassic Park in the daytime is not very frightening.
Understandable since the first test specimen dinosaurs were made of cake icing and tragically, ended up melting in the rain.
This is outstanding. Thanks for the upload.

You have to try the London Symphony Orchestra "classic rock" version, even better.
1:58 You can closely hear Richard singing👀
Nice devocalization job.

Your welcome!
I used a software to remove the vocals.
Thanks for the speedy reply.
@@janmc6219 No problem!
It's clearly software that removes the vocal. If you listen carefully you can barely make out Richard Harris's voice.
@@derianimp May I ask which software you used? This sounds absolutely perfect.
I see...Burt playing this...while Angie reclines *********
