  • Documentary pioneer Leo Seltzer, who filmed strikes in the early 1930s, made The Technique of Fresco Painting for the Federal Art Project, part of the WPA. This 1938 film shows WPA artists creating a mural in a Bronx high school. Seltzer uses time-lapse footage, street scenes (incl. workers on the Empire State Building), the Hell Gate bridge, and a surprise burst of color at the end with a reel of Eastman color stock. This is clearly one of the WPA artist’s murals (buon fresco) in Lillie Coit tower located in San Francisco. Priceless.

One of the artist seems to be James Michael Newell. Who did the work was not as important as the work itself. I like that.
Too bad that's changed, but just any idiot could duct tape a banana to the wall. How would we know it is suppose to be art with out the name "Maurizio Cattelan" attached to it.
