Colt Socom gas issue update…….

- This is the 2nd update I went to the range long story short it’s the bolt that came with the socom this explains why I would get a short stoke every now and then I though it just like to run wet but there is some kinda tolerance issue that’s allowing gas to leak some where.
ITS NOT THE GAS KEY I CHECKED ITS TIGHT!
Another quick update/ messing around video..
ua-cam.com/video/GYxRlrcrDbY/v-deo.htmlsi=Y9ZJbNuWKBCqpapV
dude had my dying at "this shit is marked GRIND...HARD" 🤣😅🤣😅
Glad to see you at least got it to function. I think that would be a good idea if that UA-camr (School of…,) would check it out. He’s got the measuring equipment for every part and tolerance.
It’s either the BCG or gas block/port. Wearing gas rings out that fast it’s likely BCG.
When it comes to the baseline AR-15 standard, remember the ABC's: [A]lways [B]ravo [C]ompany
Back when I first got into AR-15s ABC stood for Armalite, Bushmaster or Colt. ;)
They were the only companies building AR-15s at the time, or at least the only mass market builders.
BCM is awesome. Imo the best value, especially if you get upper and lower separately. I love Colt. I have 5 Colts OEM 1s and 6920s, and my Colts are better than my PSA, although those premium uppers with FN CFH barrels are wonderful. Overall, I think Colt, though not what they once were, are better than PSA. BCM is a little better than Colt these days as well so I agree on BCM.
@@christurner8255BCM is leagues better than colt.
If you get a rifle that works from colt it’s comparable to the BCM
But you are probably 100x more likely to get a rifle or upper with a major problem from Colt than from BCM
BLM rifles big gay
@@chucksneed3339you still in the Walmart parking lot, Sneed?
I think he’s headed your way to have you take a look.
You had the solution to your oroblem with that spare bolt. Glad you've go it solved for a better price.
$50 each way for shipping is highway robbery! Sounds like Colt has pretty lousy CS, but I'm glad you've fixed it.
The EXACT SAME THING happened to me with my Zastava Zpap. The difference however aside from my rifle being a AK. Is the barrel on the my rifle slugged out to .314. If your into reloading you know that .314 is excessively large even for a European made rifle. Since I’m a reloader the barrel on this rifle being so out of spec is quite problematic. Casting for is has proven to be a challenge because it’s recommended. To cast your projectiles at least 2 thou over bore diameter. What I have found works best is to cast them 4 thou over bore and size down 2 thou giving you exactly the diameter you’re looking for. So the barrel being .314 mean I need a mold that drops a .318 slung. That size has been very difficult to find I’m probably going to have to get a mold custom made. And that’s not even the worst part of it if I can’t get a cast projectile to group. Imagine trying to find a proper FMJ lol the only thing your gonna find is .310. At the end of the day the AK platform isn’t exactly the easiest thing to work on especially if it’s something as important as the barrel.
Did you contact zastava?
Why didn't you contact Zastava and have them replace the barrel?
@@Enjoyer.762 well I did contact Zastava they said the rifle was “used” because it was a private purchase. It’s not used the rifle is brand new they just used the private purchase thing as a excuse to not have to warranty a majority out of spec barrel.
Crazy how PSA and Anderson are now better quality than Colt… Wow do times change.
Those are still worse QC. For a factory-built rifle, Daniel Defense or BCM. Or a small builder such as Centurion or SOLGW.
@@Enjoyer.762 Guess which pony isn’t running? This guy’s Colt. Now guess which is? My Anderson crack pony.
@ross2398 The gun ran fine when swapped to his other Colt BCG. Any professional firearms instructor and armorer will tell you PSA and Anderson have worse QC. There are not any LE agencies that use them. Even the most budget-constrained sheriff departments won't touch PSA and Anderson - they'll even use Ruger Mini 14s over those.
you cant take this one example and group it with millions of other colts. But Psa and Anderson are solid.
@railfanningpoints2.045 you would be incredibly wrong but enjoy over paying
that chrome bcg looks so good on a black ar15
Not knocking on your rifle, but Colt has some QC issues. It wouldn't be my first choice if I bought off the shelf. I pick and choose various manufacturers for my builds. If I were to buy a Colt, I would go for their stripped down M4 without any furniture and go from there.
My buddy bought a colt 1911 and the rear sight fell.off while he was shooting it
SOTAR had a video showing a new Colt that had only a hand tighten barrel nut. Not saying that's your issue, but it does show Colt's QC has gone way down from the past. It does seem the BCG your rifle came with was the issue.
Do you know how to get ahold of SOTAR?
@@THEPAGUNGUY No
Dude, just run the chrome bolt, just swap to a phosphates extractor, they clean up so easy. Microbest makes bcm and solgw among others. Cz colt’s customer service sounds pretty poor compared to old school colt
Make sure your buffer is lubed with some good slick lubricant and I have found with my carbine it works great with a 5 ounce H buffer.
Just curious in your recent videos why do you time everything using your watch ? Doesn't look like you're checking notifications

@@declineofthewest. funny
Yea like others have mentioned it’s how I view the camera I use my IPhone and I can use my Apple Watch as a view finder. Sorry if it looks like I’m not paying attention lol
Thanks for the update. I would avoid Colt altogether and just get a new BCG.
I would ask to send the bolt back.Or just get a new BCG from Colt. I hope it all works out. I traded off a nice preban Colt carbine that suddenly had a jamming problem. I forgot later that the magazine i had i accidentally stepped on. And i bent it. Total regret.
Being combat gassed and carbine gas system you definitely don’t want to go lighter on buffer weight. Also being combat gassed it shouldn’t matter how weak the ammo is. I would check the tolerances of rue bcg because maybe too much gas is passing through the bcg.
I’m trying to reach out to school of the American rifle for help.
@@THEPAGUNGUY easy way is to switch out the bolts thensielves between bcgs to see what happens. But shitty how Colt gives 1 year warranty when a PSA has hat costs a fraction of a Colt has a little define warranty.
Quite possibly a tolerance stacking issue with a bolt that has a tail on the smaller end of the specs and the bolt tail raceway that is on the larger end of the specs.
I don’t think the random components “Daily Deal” ammunition is doing you any favors either.
What you can do, with SOTAR is maybe tag his channel in the title of this video?
I did get ahold of him he is gonna look at my BCG
@@THEPAGUNGUY Sick 🤙🏻
I would send the bolt carrier group to Colt. Not the whole rifle
Or just buy one
Glad to see you got it running, 👍
I would check the gas key to see if you possibly sheared a screw if you have a torque wrench try removing the screws set at 30 inch pounds roughly half of what torque specs are if I remember correctly it would be 65 inch pounds to torque to spec it’s a little trick sons of the American rifle has mentioned or at least swap the bolt head to see if it’s the carrier or the actual bolt head
Out of spec .bolt or gas key loose
Other than the carrier being less gas efficient, the bolt face could be undersized, the carrier key could be leaking, set screws are loose or the carrier key I.D. is over sized or blocked..If you lived near me, I could gauge it out quite easily.. The bolt tail to boat tail bore tolerance needs to be .0015 to .0023..
If I ever find one of my M-16 gas rings eaten through like that.. then there's substantially more damage to the system than just the gas rings. In theater, I would replace the entire rifle. Not just the BCG. But what you do at home may vary. Personally I have so many rifles that if it happened to me..I'd just crush the AR and throw it away without even attempting to fix it as soon as I saw one of my gas rings missing a small piece.
Never scrape the inside of your carrier. It’s smooth chrome for a reason. It’s probably already scratched in there and killed your gas rings. I’d try a quality bolt before anything else.
Wrong
Lol on a hardness test which is harder
Gas key may be leaking gas I had a spikes bolt do it I took off put new one on it got it tight it runs fine now some times you can tight the gas key up that's on it and try it it may work fine
you might try replacing the bolt head.
Yea I thought about that or just swapping carriers
That's why after they lost the Gov contract I don't buy Colt. I have a ban Era restricted 6920. 6.3k rounds from me since I bought and still running great. Four malfunctions total 3 of which was ammo related the other was lack of cleaning. I have no idea how many rounds were fired before me because it was a GBI gun before I bought it. When they had the military contract they were on point. When they lost that money I feel like they have slacked. In my humble opinion. I bought a backup bcm bolt that resides in the pistol grip anyway. Colt isn't a bad company I just think they cut a few corners recently
Yeah my 2012 LE6920 has functioned flawlessly for over a decade. At least 2K rounds shot through it. I also have a PSA that has done just as well. But no AR should be failing at 2K.
So you bought it in 2022, and you're just now firing it?
Also, why are you using a non lubed bolt? 3 deployments with a COLT they love to be lubed, never had an issue when wet.
Um no im at 2,000 rounds this hole thing started cause of fried gas rings that lead me to discovering there’s actually a gas issue w the bolt.
Run a few hundred rounds with the other colt bcg if it works good then I say go get a Solgw or Bcm bcg they are way better than colt I’ve herd the colt stuff had seen some hit and miss with Quality
I ordered a BCM BCG H buffer and a new springco buffer spring. I’ll update when I get new parts.
@THEPAGUNGUY I just looked on Brownells, and they have BCM bcgs for $244 right now! That's wild, I've never seen em that high. I just wait for AR15 Discounts to have Microbest on sale for $89.95 and buy those. They go on sale frequently, but I do love BCM. One of my Colt OEM 1s came with the bcg missing finish on the carrier. I saw it but thought it was grease or something that would wipe off. When I realized it was a finish defect, though just cosmetic, I think, I sent Colt pics. I was hoping to get a new bcg, but they wouldn't do it. They did want me to send the whole rifle in, but I didn't want to just for that. I have a couple spare Microbest phosphate, so I just run it. It works great. I'm sure it's no big deal, but I've definitely had better customer service, though. Colt wasn't responsive at all. It took days to get a response to email, and the lady was rude. Maybe she thought I was being overly picky and possibly so, but I sure would have liked another Colt bcg. They are expensive for a glorified Microbest, and it's a fairly big spot missing finish. I would still get another Colt, though. Good luck bro your SOCOM rifle is awesome.
@@THEPAGUNGUY cool brother hope it all works out you can’t go wrong with Bcm
Tell by the sound your LC is hotter. I only shoot mil spec/surplus in my AR-15s so can’t tell what current civilian ammo does. Just order another BCG and still have issues only use mil spec ammo.
You should put a different bcg and see if it fix it if not you should remove the gas block and check the gas hold size and try on a deferent lower it could be out of spec but it’s probably a gassing problem
Means ur rifle is undergassed or the it’s not getting a proper seal
It seems like colt won't be any help i would say your best best is pony up for a bcm bcg, leave in the H buffer and keep on truckin
There is a H2 buffer in it from colt. I ordered a BCM bolt and a H1 buffer and a new springco buffer spring.
@THEPAGUNGUY I thought you put one in for testing! Disregard lol. And good man! Shouldn't have any more worries
$500 to replace a BCG when you could just buy a PSA M4gery and it would have better QC, and like I said in the last video, almost all of the components are sourced from the same OEM as the actual military M4. It’s just gonna say “PSA” on the roll mark instead of Colt or FN. Big Freaking Whoop.
Half true.
PSA may source parts from others but they spec them out lower.
For instance their Extractors, Gas key, and Cam pin can all be different spec steel and even then be required to be held to even higher tolerances all at a premium cost.
PSA may use the same BCGs as other companies but that does not mean they order them with the same requirements.
Also PSAs barrels are sub par (I’m a PSA fan) but they don’t compare to a quality Crome lined barrel with all the proper stress relief, HPT etc etc.
PSA definitely does do very good for the price you pay but trying to compare them to the big boys isn’t a fair comparison.
I have more PSAs than anything but I wouldn’t dare try to say that it could keep up with my LMT or BCM uppers if it somehow ended up on a full auto lower
@@brandonschwietzer8757 LMT and BCM are not M4s, they’re beyond milspec.
@@JeffNeelzebubLMT IS TRASH
@@brandonschwietzer8757 I’m not comparing PSA to BCM or LMT or Geissele. They make better products. I’m comparing them to Colt. PSA barrels come from FN, they are cold hammer forged and chrome lined, identical to the M4s. They source the BCGs from the same subcontractor used by Colt and FN to make the M4 (Toolcraft). The FCGs are made by Schmid, same as the M4, and the receiver sets come from the same forge.
@@JeffNeelzebub literally everything you just said is true for BCM.
Also most of PSAs rifles/uppers are not using FN barrels.
The sad part is PSA would have sent you a label and it would have been fixed for free.
Yep I 100% agree
Clean your gun. You are making this too complicated. Use the correct lube inside the bolt and outside. When a bolt carbons up on the inside you will eat rings.
Bro, have you checked headspace on all these bolts? Or do you just feel really lucky?
It's pretty universal
Is your scar from a shark
I'd just trade it in on a New one & not have the worries & if the next one give ANY kind of issue....ID NEVER HAVE ANOTHER colt... PERIOD
Shame on trash Colt for only standing behind their stuff for 1 crappy year. What a HUGE JOKE!!!
this is why i only buy from psa lol
At least they are really good w there lifetime warranty
Just buy a new BCG and you won't have to send your rifle in.
Ur bolt gaz rings aren’t sealed
Chad - can you help? @SchooloftheAmericanRifle - Colt BCG autopsy incoming... :-p
And why I DONT buy Colt.
xm193
I'll stick with psa
that is some shit qc and customer service. last year i had a problem with my Winchester email them and they fix no problem. it cost me 30 dollars to ship it and i didn't pay for the shipping back or the work. if colt which cost way more won't fix their products why even bother buying them
People buy em for the name and the colt pony on the receiver 😂
I agree w you again just finding this stuff out now.
Colt is hands down one of the best company’s out here period.
I go back to the gas rings breaking which should not be happening anywhere near 2000rounds so look closer at that area
Not anymore they use to be decades ago but today in 2024 they’re mediocre asf BCM , Daniel Defense, Armalite are better companies than colt
Dude I have 5 Colts, 4 where my Dad's that he got back in the friggin 80's when Colt was the shit. Would not sell or trade them for a brand new Knights (I also have 3 KAC AR's) Now a days Colt is definitely NOT the best AR Manufacturer.
The only thing I can say is if they were they would take a look without charging me. I don’t hate colt but my opinions have changed mostly based on there CS. Most AR MFGs have lifetime warranty’s against MFG defects and I believe this to be a MFG defect. Yes I should have caught this sooner but shit I figured it just needed to be lubed better or it was the ammo I was using. I had no idea that slapping another BCG in would change the way it shoots.
@@THEPAGUNGUY Bingo! I wish Chad from SOAR would get back with you, I would LOVE to see him do a autopsy on your BCG.
@@adamrodgers2377I’m hoping to get ahold of him too I’m gonna keep trying!
Just sell it and buy a Psa and have money left over in your pocket and a better gun, problem solved
I have PSA guns as well I’ll keep the lower till I die I was thinking of slapping a BCM upper on it. Which I may do in the future
