I hear good things about quality and consistency in manufacturing and glad to hear they are back at it manufacturing firearms after their shutdown. The Windham is not the same as Colt in one measure. The Windham has an A2 FSB and thus its detachable carry handle sight is not mil spec height. Thanks for the feedback. I have seen some HBAR Colts on guns.com in the last few days, but they are going around $2k. I have pretty good reliability with the Colt's I have. Good luck- I am looking for a Colt Sporter or Sporter II for my collection. There are a few AR15A2 on various sites for sale.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, it has MPC on the bolt- if you squint you can see it. I like the looks too as is. A lot of folks will come up to the shooting table just to see what it is when I am at the club's range area. I did purchase a set of A1 handguards, stock and grip because I originally wanted a Retro A1 clone and could not locate one at a decent price. Take care.
1/7 twist rate barrel can stabilize most rounds but best at 62 grain and higher. I use 62 grain or 55 grain almost always when shooting on paper or steel. I'm not sure on the trigger weight -it's mil-spec so 4 to 5 lbs maybe. I don't have a trigger pull gauge.
I have an M16A2 clone rifle and an M4 clone carbine. I also have another lower and flat top upper on hand and am thinking of making an M16A4 clone. I like the carry handles and am fine with the A2 rear sights. But if I use the carry handle on everything, then there really is no difference between the A2 and A4. The A4 gives me options I'm not interested in. I may just wait until this pistol brace nonsense shakes out and then build something with a shorter barrel than the M4. 🤷♂ FWIW, the 20" rifle is FAR more pleasant to shoot.
Good luck with your decision-let me hear about what you decide. Sounds like you have a good plan. The pistol brace issue is nonsense. Thanks for the feedback!
Yes this rifle has M4 feed ramps. Most AR platform rifles produced nowadays for civilian market should have them. The model AR15A4 has an M4 flattop upper receiver marked 'M4' by the delta ring.
Yes. It comes with the M16 bolt carrier group. That part isn't advertised in any of the descriptions. I just bought another Colt M16 BCG from Charlie's Custom Clones. It is identical, including the markings. Thoroughbred Armament has them for pretty low prices when they are in stock. Appreciate your comments. Doug.
Not sure why Colt calls it an A4. The M16A4 to me was always the full auto, modular rail version of the M16A2, which was this rifle except with 3-round burst.
@bcj575 if you are referring to why Colt call the commercial/civilian version A4- not sure other than the similarities minus the Burst mode. The Colt M16A4 was Safe-Semi-Burst. The FN M16A4 with the Knights Armament M5 RAS was referred to the M16A4 MWS (Modular Weapons System). The Colt M16A3 was used by select military groups and was Safe- Semi- Auto. I was not in the Military so someone can comment on the info. Thanks for the comments and feedback.
Unless it's a rifle or an AR pistol specifically built for CQB / home defense or a vehicle weapon, I prefer a 20 inch barrel and rifle length gas system on an AR-15. I like the lowest recoil possible, and maximized ballistic performance. Even clearing rooms with a 20 inch isn't bad if you dedicate some time to training with it. My initial rifle I trained with in Infantry OSUT was a 20" M16A4 and I had no problem "clearing," rooms with it during training. I was issued the M4 when I got to my unit, but the M16A4 has always been my favorite.
@mattkilgore5328 Thanks for the feedback and sharing your knowledge and experience. I use this rifle at the range more than the others that I have and agree with you on the points you made in your comments. Thank you for your Service as well. Take care and thanks-Doug.
Just bought one and I plan on leaving it as is for the same reason. Although, I was issued an A2, this is pretty similar and brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia for me.
This rifle supports marksmanship development like no other, using the as issued detachable carry handle sight. Just fit a free-float tube under the handguards for best results.
Thanks for dedicating 15 years of your life to defending our Freedom. I am thankful for you @Xanduur. Good to hear you got that rifle. Thank you for the comments!
My first rifle was a Colt Match Target Competition HBAR 20” I’ve owned a lot of 16” AR’s over the years but I want this rifle! It reminds me of my first rifle. The one that started my firearm obsession all those years ago lol
Many might find the carry handle ancient, but I personally love it. It looks so cool, and does serve a descent amount of practicality and will always work. Love the 20 inch barrel too. It's what 5.56 was originally designed to be fired out of to get maximum velocity. Absolutely love these style rifles, and I'm only about 9 months away from turning 18 and being able to get one. Even building one is sick. A piece of nostalgia in the modern AR world full of tacti-cool builds. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed 👍
Thanks for the feedback. That is one of my favorite rifles. Currently have the triangle handguards on it from Luth-AR. Easy to hit a target at 100 yards with the carry handle sights. I have an M5 RAS and Trijicon ACOG that will be in a future video. Appreciate your comments-Doug
If I changed out the factory bulbs for some LED’s on my car, I wouldn’t go around saying, “Yea that’s my build. Got all new headlights in there. They’ll go YEARS before you need to replace them.”
It appears that the hand guards are different from my original m16. The ar15 in this video appears to Be symmetrical while the original m16 was tapered. Any idea what brand ar15 would have the tapered hand guard? Thanks.
@thomashendrickson9651 They are tapered as you say. I said " symmetrical" but that was a poor choice for words and description. The top handguard is interchangeable with the bottom handguard and identical, so if one is broken or crushed, it can be replaced more easily than the A1 handguard that had a right and a left side. Appreciate you and your feedback. Thanks👍👍

Buy this rifle and then buy the USAMU Service Rifle Marksmanship Guide to learn everything that’s important to good shooting with this rifle. And for any who want to prove their marksmanship knowledge and skill, or who have a desire to become better marksmen, sign up for the USAMUs Small Arms Firing School. It’s an annual 3 day marksmanship training event held in late July at Camp Perry Ohio. My perspective on this is as a CMP-USAMU Military Rifle Instructor assisting the USAMU deliver SDM, TTT, and SAFS Training, where I have seen comprehensive training lead shooters to become Champions if they have that goal. BTW, the manual that comes with this Colt Rifle is truly lousy, it is poorly written and instruction is inadequate for the purchaser to properly zero the rifle’s sights for a bullet drop compensation function. Also, this rifle is ideally suited for M855 ammunition when a most accurate bullet drop compensation function is desired.
@charlesludwig9173 WOW, Brother, I appreciate that information. I just downloaded the file online. I'll save it as a PDF and print it. Looks very extensive and in-depth. I am looking forward to getting into some of that detail. I appreciate you, and thanks for the comments and giving some insight into your experience and knowledge. ✌️✌️
@The_Great_White thanks for the question. You can add an LPVO just need to use the correct mount height for that optic. There is no interference. I purchased a Viper PST Gen ll 1-6 for the AR15A4 as the replacement for the carry handle. Then I did a clone mod for this rifle for an M16A4 and changed it out for an ACOG.
Thanks for the feedback. I've been shooting at the range as is. The parts I ordered are all still on the shelf. A lot of other shooters at the range like the look as well. Thanks for the feedback
So this, or the Springfield SA-16. That's where I'm at. I like the fixed carry handle of the Springfield, but I like the authenticity of the Colt name too. Sigh.
Springfield makes good rifles. Base your decision based off of how you are going to use the rifle. I use an optic 99% of the time. A fixed carry handle gives limited options. The Colt AR15A4 allows a lot more versatility with the pic rail. I have an H&R retro M16 and I don't use it a lot at the range. Good luck with your decision!. Doug
Windham weaponry also makes this same rifle with removable carry handle that's pretty much identical just with a different name brand stamp on the reciever..try checking them out

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate you. I love the M-16 rifle. Lightweight rifle, 20"-barrel, higher bullet velocities and accuracy and less felt recoil. What's not to love about the platform. The AR15A4 commercial rifle shares a lot of qualities (not just appearance) of the military M16A4.🤟🤟
I can't keep up with colt and all their funny business.. they keep the MP mark together than not together and now I see yours a newer production one with it back together. they use the C than cage codes and now this C on yours. they need to make up their mind lol
Honestly I believe they lack a lot of consistency in manufacturing practices but most people will buy a specific model Colt rifle for the markings that are similar on the old rifles or Colt is just pulling old parts out of a drawer and putting them together on new rifles. Who knows- the quality and reliability are no concerns though - OLD or NEW CZ COLT. Appreciate your comments as I questioned it as well before I purchased the last couple of rifles. It's my understanding that the FN Collector's Series rifles have 4140 barrels. I know that the Colt is 4150 CMV. You have the better rifle, especially for the steep price that the FN goes for.
Thanks for the feedback. My understanding on the FN M16 Military Collector rifle is as you state 4140 barrel versus 4150. It is a good looking rifle. but not worth the price tag- In My Opinion. Thanks for the comments and feedback.

You asked a good question that deserves a good answer. SO many people on the internet talk about their "build" when in fact they are doing nothing of the sort. Only people who are a skilled craftsman capable of manufacturing the parts themselves on actual milling machines can call the end product a "build". This is an extremely low number of people actually. A person who sources all the parts from the manufacturers, gun stores or online gun parts retailers, and then puts it together into a functioning AR can say they "assembled" it. And you are correct, what you are doing is upgrading your completed rifle so it could be said to be a "accessorizing" or if you like, a "mod." I have assembled and modded many ARs (like so many of us have) but wouldn't have a clue about how to do a "build." Very nice rifle you have there and hope you're enjoying it.
@plaiddad276 Thanks for your feedback back and comments. I have seen numerous videos on YT where people talk about their "build" when only few parts are switched out. Crap on my last video I kept doing the same thing talking about build, but I did add some screen time comments stating "mod". Anyways it's just something that makes me laugh when I see someone adding colored trigger and hammer pins and a few CNC parts regarded as a build. Haha. I appreciate you and your feedback. Take care Brother-Doug
Thank you. I bought two of those rifle rests. Then I bought two more. Great tip. The simple WWB 55 grain FMJ or the Black Hills 50 grain TSX HP are made for that rifle.
Just waiting for my background check to go through, and I will finally get to own a little piece of history. I am thinking of getting the M5 Rifle RAS forends because I like how it looks with a front grip handle. I may keep original Iron Sights as it's how I remember shooting this back in the day but I'm a big fan of open red dot sights. Lots of people love to bash Colt, saying it's not as good as they were but I will find out myself soon right? Great video.
I'm glad to hear you are getting your rifle. Aside from the inconsistency in finished parts and markings and such, I have never had an issue with any of my Colt rifles functioning correctly. Always haters out of there for many different manufacturers. If you like them, who cares what others think, right? Good luck accessorizing your new rifle. Thanks for the feedback-Doug.
I have the same Rifle...Mod or Upgrades , even making something Clone Correct are good terms for your goals. Builds are the Assembly of a complete weapon from a pile of parts...typical for AR's these days., with the Costs of fully assembled Name brands like Colt, FN , DD , Gieselle and etc.
Not bad, even though I'm an AK guy, but I still got to give it up to the 5.56 as my first rifle is a 5.56 and I still have it to this day, although it doesn't hurt to have something that resembles an M16. Plus it's cheaper to have than the FN one as it's all gucci'd out, but I like the old school the Colt model has and without the weight of rails, you can just buy an adapter to toss in a light and an optic and you're set to go.
I like the AK platform too- I have a Zastava M70 and it's a great shooter. As far as the 5.56 goes I am starting to get a vibe for the retro rifles and looking for what is available now. The older A1 style AR from Vietnam era is what i think of when I hear M16. Thanks for the comments and feedback.
If you take parts off of the rifle and add aftermarket parts, but still retain the old parts, I would consider it stock and a modification, but still original
Thanks for question. I'm currently unable to find out the answer, but I'll check some forums. That isn't specified in the documents I have. Thanks-Doug
www.opticsplanet.com/caldwell-bog-pod-rapid-shooting-rest-110113.html I use Bog rapid shooting rest in some of my videos. Link is above at optics planet but probably available at local Cabelas. As far as rifle sling , I use a specter gear sling

I have a few videos on my channel on it if you want to check it out. Only difference is markings on the lower. Which begs the question why have 2 different models. I turned mine into a M16A4 clone. FN is on crack if they think there collectors M16 is worth 2k I’d rather have the colt anyways
It sure was, and thanks for the feedback. The photo was taken a while before the video was taken, but I did not notice it. I had changed out the carry handle for a couple of different holographic sites, and I did not even notice it. It was prooerly fitted a hile back. Appreciate you and thanks. Doug
That's cool that yours has the cage code upper and the uid sticker on the magwell, I recently got one of these with a 031 S/N that has neither of those and the upper is keyhole marked. I did notice the carry handle on mine has the cage code on it , which is kind of neat.
I added the UID from Carolina Laserworks shortly after I got the rifle. I ordered a square one and a rectangular one for the M16 A4 mod I am doing. Do you have the model 6700A4 or the model AR15A4? Not sure how Colt is having these put together but reading a lot that different contracted companies are doing a lot of the part manufacturing or processing and a lot of 'older' colt surplus parts are being used too. Not that that is bad but little consistency in markings and such across same models. Hope your rifle is a good shooter for you. Thanks for the feedback and comments.
Well, that is not too unbelievable. A lot of local shops stock limited supplies and prefer to get you what they have on their shelves. As of today, I know they are in stock at- Guns.com and Brownell's.
Yeah I believe they did lose the A2 stock. I think the A2 is comfortable as is but have a B5 Systems Sopmod enhanced stock in the closet I may switch out. I like the look of the original stock though. I get a lot of people coming up to the table asking about it when I have it out at the range. Thanks for the feedback.
If someone wants a truly inspired M16A1 the Windham will do but not sure about the quality of the stock, hand guards. It looks legit down to the slip ring and so you could get that retro look out of that A1 model. I have a few Colt rifles so if I was still looking for that retro look, I would get it and not change anything.
Short answer is yes 😉😉. Long answer is you can’t legally convert a firearm sold as a rifle to a pistol so you would have to fill out the form to sbr it to go shorter than 16” to stay on the up and up with uncle sam.
As skiddlyd.244 stated below- you can swap out uppers. The upper on this states M4 so its pretty common just need to go with a rifle length barrel 16" or 18" or longer as long as it is 16" Unless you do a lot of run and gun on a tactical course you really don't notice it is that much longer.

I may just wait until this pistol brace nonsense shakes out and then build something with a shorter barrel than the M4. 🤷♂
FWIW, the 20" rifle is FAR more pleasant to shoot.
Good luck with your decision-let me hear about what you decide. Sounds like you have a good plan. The pistol brace issue is nonsense. Thanks for the feedback!
Does it have the m4 feed ramps
Yes this rifle has M4 feed ramps. Most AR platform rifles produced nowadays for civilian market should have them. The model AR15A4 has an M4 flattop upper receiver marked 'M4' by the delta ring.
Is that an m16 bolt? It looks like one.
Doug.
@@404tactical7 Thanks, that answers a couple of other questions I had about the upper receiver.
@sammako1899 This upper has M4 markings at the front of the pic rail as an FYI

Huh? The M16A4 is definitely not full auto. It’s semi auto and 3 round burst

deployed with this. wanted the m4 instead. everyone had the m4. but now i want the 20 inch barrel for nostalgia.
I love the Retro look
I would leave it alone and not add anything to it. The one I used was the m16 I loved it. Go army.

This rifle supports marksmanship development like no other, using the as issued detachable carry handle sight. Just fit a free-float tube under the handguards for best results.

It appears that the hand guards are different from my original m16. The ar15 in this video appears to
Be symmetrical while the original m16 was tapered.
Do you have a source for a printed version of the guide? Only thing I have seen is the downloadable version.
Say if you took the carry handle off and did a lpvo or scope would that work with the front sight? Or is that preference?
@The_Great_White thanks for the question. You can add an LPVO just need to use the correct mount height for that optic. There is no interference. I purchased a Viper PST Gen ll 1-6 for the AR15A4 as the replacement for the carry handle. Then I did a clone mod for this rifle for an M16A4 and changed it out for an ACOG.
I say don't fuck with it!

Doug

@mr.60s86 Good to hear. I use those rests for sighting in pistol optics as well. Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate you.
Thanks for your feedback and I wholeheartedly agree with what you stated.

So say I bought one, am I stuck with the 20 inch barrel? Or down the road could I buy shorter sized upper, and put it on this lower?
Short answer is yes 😉😉. Long answer is you can’t legally convert a firearm sold as a rifle to a pistol so you would have to fill out the form to sbr it to go shorter than 16” to stay on the up and up with uncle sam.
As skiddlyd.244 stated below- you can swap out uppers. The upper on this states M4 so its pretty common just need to go with a rifle length barrel 16" or 18" or longer as long as it is 16" Unless you do a lot of run and gun on a tactical course you really don't notice it is that much longer.
Even though its a CZ Colt. I have one. Shoots 2moa with irons at 100 yards. I'll take that.
Sounds like you have a WINNER there. Stay safe and thanks for the feedback and comments!
