Fathers knows best is one of my favorite rv shows . I was born in the late 70’s and appreciate wholesome sitcoms. I remember in the 80’s when going to restaurants the host or hostess asking my parents “smoking or non smoking section”.

Yes, the ages of many performers still with us for these shows illustrate the March of time, for certain. On on sit d.oking, Desi Arnaz s Did do on I Love Lucy and I expect Lucy did also. Haven't watched that in awhile. It did take a number of years for that to face significantly on television. Shame the buildings were torn down; glad you were able to film them beforehand.

Robert Young was a great actor and nice person. He sent me a nice autograph once when I wrote him. Althought he did have severe depression which is kind of sad because he made a great doctor too !

As far as smoking TV fathers back then, it was rare but Andy Taylor did smoke on a few episodes. It's funny that when the "good old days" were depends on the person you are asking. I have realized that people tend to remember their childhood as the good old days because life was simple. So the good old days for me is the 60's/70's and for my kids it is the 90's early 2000's. Your videos just popped up in my recommendations and have been binge watching them today. I have to admit that I have had to wipe a tear or two away remembering these people and what they meant to my childhood. It makes you realize that you need to appreciate what you have now because it will be gone tomorrow. Thank you for doing these. I'm sure you do it for the enjoyment but it has meant something to me and I appreciate your work.
I'm 46 years old but I remember the "smoking sections" in various places like in airplanes. That was funny, the passengers in the back were smoking so we were all smoking! Lol! Steve, another great stroll down memory lane. It is funny how the pendulum swings. Then they smoked but had to have twin beds. Now they don't smoke and show them doing a whole lot more in one bed. Thanks for all the hard work.

Good video Steve. I remember reading a very nice comment about Robert Young. When the cast of Father Knows Best was being signed up, Young made sure that they all got paid for reruns (residuals) of the show. I guess that was unusual at the time i.e. residual guarantees. Don't know if it is true but I've never forgotten that kind act. I do not remember Young smoking on the show. But it was so common then why would I?
Loved Robert Young's made-for-tv movies, "All My Darling Daughters" & "All My Darling Daughters' Anniversary." Heartwarming storylines about widowed "Judge Charles Raleigh" & his four daughters. Highly recommend!
I remember in some of the early season episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, Andy occasionally smoked cigarettes, but not in the later seasons, and I also noticed never in front of Opie. Coincidentally, Elinor Donahue also co-starred in the first season of that series as pharmacist Ellie Walker, Andy's love interest! Also Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Rose Marie and Carl Reiner all smoked at various times in episodes of the Dick Van Dyke Show. Of course in those days it was not considered taboo because all the health risks associated with smoking were not yet known.
Desi Arnaz smoked on the set. And so did Andy Griffth. But youre right none of wore seat belts. Kids didn't have to be in car seats booster seats. I remember laying in the back window odf our station wagon!!!!! And being able to be in the back of dads pick up truck we had to stay still and sit right behind him. But those where the good days!!!! We survived!!!!

With the entire cast enjoying such longevity, it appears that Robert Young's second hand smoke was harmless.
I watched Father Knows Best in syndication in the 70s and of course Marcus Welby in prime time. I am happy they were blessed with long lives.

Good video Steve. I remember reading a very nice comment about Robert Young. When the cast of Father Knows Best was being signed up, Young made sure that they all got paid for reruns (residuals) of the show. I guess that was unusual at the time i.e. residual guarantees.
Don't know if it is true but I've never forgotten that kind act.
I do not remember Young smoking on the show. But it was so common then why would I?

I remember in some of the early season episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, Andy occasionally smoked cigarettes, but not in the later seasons, and I also noticed never in front of Opie. Coincidentally, Elinor Donahue also co-starred in the first season of that series as pharmacist Ellie Walker, Andy's love interest! Also Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore, Rose Marie and Carl Reiner all smoked at various times in episodes of the Dick Van Dyke Show. Of course in those days it was not considered taboo because all the health risks associated with smoking were not yet known.
Desi Arnaz smoked on the set. And so did Andy Griffth. But youre right none of wore seat belts. Kids didn't have to be in car seats booster seats. I remember laying in the back window odf our station wagon!!!!! And being able to be in the back of dads pick up truck we had to stay still and sit right behind him. But those where the good days!!!! We survived!!!!
