DEMANDS For CHANGE After SHOCKING Race With Monaco AT RISK!

- Iconic? Obviously. Historic? Of course. A good F1 race? Absolutely not. A completely processional Grand Prix around the streets of Monaco has once again brought to the fore the issue of modern F1 cars being completely unsuited for the streets of the principality. The race might be F1’s showpiece but Formula One has outgrown the circuit and watching 78 laps of the top 10 cars following each other around the two mile circuit, seeing who can drive the slowest, is not the product that the sport wants to be showing. With the sport almost ditching the historic venue two years ago, could this season's race have been the final nail in the coffin? Or can anything be done to reignite the excitement of racing in the city and save Formula One’s most famous race?

I’d put the drivers in super karts for Monaco, it would make the track into one with many overtaking opportunities, it would give the fans something different to watch and reserve drivers could be allowed to race.
And F2 drivers can easily beat F1 drivers on a super cart
@@camilo8cheryl It would be quite an open race I’m sure as most formula drivers have come through karting.
Im with you! I believe Monaco can have their own chassis rules. Monaco is best with smaller cars like the host and you said.
Watching F1 stars in large would be hilarious.
In Australia there were a number of Australian GPs in the early 1980s where, they were running Formula Pacific (equivalent to F3 I think) which attracted Proxy and Laura amongst others. Roberto Moreno won a number of,them over the years.
That's a great idea!
I think Monaco should not be a grand prix but should be retained as a special event. I think it would be interesting as a time trial event or something with historical cars. Monaco only has the history, tradition and glitz to sell itself so why not just lean completely into that and ditch any pretence that there will be racing there?
it should be like the ALL-star game in some sports... maybe bring legends to drive a stock car. make it a celebration. maybe half-way in the calendar as a holiday and celebration of the sport. maybe drivers change every 5-10 laps. have fun with it with zero consequences.
Indeed just make it a celebration weekend of motorsport legends and cars...
I say it all the times: should be a time-trial.
Then would be the more exciting race on calendar.
Or even turn it into the hall of fame week. Add events. Like fastest sector just make it fun
I was going to suggest they run a certain year, or period car, but the cars are irreplaceable. Aren't the F2 cars smaller? Use one-off current year F2s, doesn't even have to be a points race. They'll be cheaper, too.
Fell asleep half way watching the race...
I fell asleep on the sofa after lap 10, woke up with about 15 laps to go and ... nothing was changed nor did it change until the end.
Yeah... That was a first for me in 30+ years of watching f1
Same boat, always fell asleep during dry race at monaco..got bore and watched Motogp in Spain and it was a fantastic nail bitting race..MotoGp still doesn’t dissappint👍
How the hell did you last that long 😂😂😂
Around lap 5... Zzzzzzzz, and woke up towards the end, when itty bitty things happened...
Make it a Goodwood FOS style event, classic F1 cars driven by the current drivers, V8's, V10's, V12's, historical suits for the drivers and teams, make it a celebratory event, it would be so much more interesting!
Love that idea.
Yes! Pozdro666
But in Monaco the delicious crumpets will go down on you in a second just because you are rich! The parties are unbeatable.
GFOS is mega, but for very different reasons. 🤔
Remove that chicane to begin with. That will be one place where overtakes would be possible.
I saw someone comment on another video it wouldn't be FIA compliant with those spreds and no run off.
The problem is, the cars are far too large and heavy.
Worst circuit to watch a F-1 race. Qualifying is the race.
I'd still prefer it over Vegas or Miami tbh. But yeah Monaco needs work.
false. Qualifying shows your pace, the race will still depend on durability, car reliability, pit stops, and driver's skills.
@@Murderdrone-b3x Charles isn't saying all tracks are just about qualifying. He's just saying that it's only Monaco is only a qualifying track and not suited for races.
@@Murderdrone-b3xthere is no race at Monaco.
Cry cry cry. What a baby. F1 used to be too cool for social media. Ever since Hamilton started they started changing all the rules for him and ignoring his cheating and the cheating of Red Bull and Mercedes. That's where it went wrong. Now all the stupid rules aren't work the answer is more stupid rules.
So glad I stopped watching it years ago. Immature snowflakes.
F1: I don't bother to turn it on any more. Too much money, any innovation is immediately copied, too precious and remote. Anyone else see the pre WW1 race at the Goodwood Members Meeting? Absolutely bonkers and could watch those nutters all day, they raced!
Can Am cars absolutely ruled for innovation and no holes barred racing.
It's not just about Monaco. Every single decision made to improve F1 since 2013 has just incrementally destroyed the sport. There are absolutely no races that are exciting without some form of artificial interference (Pace Car or the ridiculous DRS)
F1 cars are too big, too complex, too reliable, too quiet.
Agreed. Been watching since the 80's, this is a dull time for F1.
The real question is why did they implement big cars?
F1 cars were smaller and quite agile once a time
Alot is to do with safety. Crumple zone sizes for impact for the speeds they travel at now. Look at what was left of Checos car after impact they need to be that size to protect driver, And aero comes into play. Track is just outdated for modern cars. Smaller cars were much more fun to watch and over takes.
I think the size of the cars is related to security
Crash protection and having the gubbins that goes with a hybrid engine (Battery, extra cooling etc).
Safety, and performance. A wider stance give the cars better turning. Modern cars are not built for monaco they are build for proper race circuits.
@@earthboundsculptures I have no doubts the cars can be smaller without compromise safety. Compromise speed instead.
The configuration of the sport is the problem. If a dull strategy is optimal, it's not the track that's at fault. It's that a dull strategy is optimum with the current rules.
You could allow cars to go straight through the chicane after the tunnel a maximum 5 times during the race without having to give the place back.
Great idea! Older track layouts had that. The issue would come when the driver who takes Nouvelle chicane decides to close the door cos he "didn't see" the other driver cutting the chicane. Could lead to a huge crash!
I think that chicane didn't exist in the original tracks. I've been watching F1 with 40 years but Monaco was always a boring track to me.
The back road after the chicane could be a mandatory joker section like in rallycross, and rejoin further down
just ditch it all together
Larger diameter, narrower rims for ALL races. The current formula makes cars too stable and predictable in the bends.
also for all races... if the race is restarted without a full lap completed, that doesn't constitute a compound usage
Or just ban changing tires under red flag conditions, which should have been the rule all along. The amount of times that a red flag has ruined a race because everyone got to just change tires instead of having to pit...
@@bipolarminddroppings they should leave the ability to change tyres (of the same type maybe) in case someone picks up debris from an accident so they can join the restart, but it just shouldn't count towards the compulsory stop. They should have to stop again under race conditions.
The only way to save this race as is, is to force this race to be run on only soft compound tires, and the softest of the tires in the Pirelli range. That would force multiple pit stops (probably as many as 3) through increased tire deg. That would result in a lot more gamesmanship, strategy, and action, plus give the traction to possibly make some passes that wouldn't normally be considered by the top teams.
Or they would drive even slower 😂
@@instinct3510spot on. Start 1st. And tootle round only needing to concentrate for 2 corners and you finish where you start.
quoting Horner: change the fucking cars.
I don't agree,
we see mostly the same thing in F2 & F3 the circuit needs to change rather then the cars.
@@isk8nyc Not true this year. F2 was entertaining.
@@isk8nyc F2 race was great
Monaco should be a sort of “festival” and no longer a f1 race. Have historic cars going round the circuit driven by current/past drivers. Have it a bit like goodwood. Even have celebrity drivers too.
Monaco should be a time trial, staggered starts and say 10 laps each
interesting idea!
@@christopherbuilder5354 they can go in groups of say 6, slowest group to fastest group depending on qualifying, would actually tension as i may be won on the very last lap, and we would actually see what the drivers can do on that circuit as well as making a unique event.. i thought about it before ...monaco is dull
I literally fell asleep towards the end of the race, I was up all early had my coffee and still literally fell asleep during the race, luckily caught the emotional end and final laps
Make it a time attack weekend. Multiple rounds. Top tone, top speed, tandem runs for a tune delta.... some crazy stuff like that
Gross. You can go watch whatever time attack sport you want. It's one race out of 24 and you crying. If you don't like it don't watch
Someone here in the comments floated the idea of turning the Monaco GP into a special event using older cars. I think that’s a nice idea. A ‘bit’ like goodwood for example. Each team races older cars from different periods, drivers both old and current or up and coming can compete. So you get all the glamour , keep the location in the calendar, but offer something new. I’d watch and probably enjoy that.
Obviously there would be massive infrastructural and branding issues, but still it’s a cool idea.
Cars are too big and fast for the track, track is too narrow, turns are too tight. Also, that ridiculous chicane at the end of the tunnel straight.
If F1, Liberty Media, want to make F1 racing exciting, and provoke the teams into building cars that can overtake, award significant points for qualifying and then grid the cars for the race in reverse order of qualifying.
Awarding decent points for qualifying would force the teams and drivers to compete to 'win' qualifying, but then positioning the cars in reverse qualifying order for the race would force the teams and drivers to find ways to pass, or see slower cars gaining decent points over them. A scheme such as this invites all sorts of strategic tactics, both during qualifying and the race. It could be fantastic. There would have to be some strict rules applied to punish drivers that blatantly block cars behind from passing, but we should have such rules and enforce them now!
Surely there must be a way to eek out some space to make the track wider and maybe lengthen the drs part ?
There really isn't. I've been to Monaco on a normal weekend, I've both walked and driven around the "track", even without the barriers and F1 curbs it's ridiculously tight in places and there's not really much option for altering the track as you're stuck with the road layout of the city.
There's not many other options for where the track can go as most of the connecting streets don't re-connect to the track area.
Joker laps are the only way to breakup the train.
I would also like to see 2 10 car sprint races on Sat with a 15 car final on Sun.
Joker laps could be really fun! But I'm happy I didn't pay for F1 this year. Talk about boring..
Sprint race with mandatory 3 x pit stops and reverse grid, maybe that will make Monaco almost interesting.
in 1992, Nigel Mansell was chasing Ayrton Senna for around 20 laps maybe, can;t remember exactly. Had he been able to overtake he would have left Ayrton behind, but that is the nature of Monaco. It has always been like that when you get a clever driver up front blocking any chance of overtaking.
The only way to inprove it is to widen the track and have a truly long straight and the only way to do that is if Monaco invaded France and took another 2kms off the border. If not that make them pay for their tyres with a credit card before they exit the pit lane and put hard curbs on the track like normal roads. DId anyone mention speed bumps?
I was at that race and it was probably one of the best Grand Prix I've ever been to.
That was down to driving skill for both drivers. Not cars that when side by side don't fit on half the track.
@@kenw1295 You should try watching paint dry! You would love it!
Qualify as normal to establish running order and then each car does 5 laps on the circuit on their own and the fastest aggregate time for all 5 laps wins. this will mean pushing like qualifying for all 5 laps (testing car, driver and barriers)
It was absolutely boring. My view for many years that Monaco circuit should be dropped. I for one will NEVER be looking at another one and that includes the FP's.
It won't be dropped though. Plenty of other boring races in F1 nowadays though.
If it wasn’t for the historic nature of Monaco it wouldn’t be on the calendar, they either need to drop the race or reconfigure the circuit to allow for more passing
Honestly what is so iconic about Monaco? The rich people? I really need to understand what makes the most boring race on the calendar "Iconic"?
Really don't understand why they don't just move Monaco to the end of the calendar. Treat it the same way the TDF does around the Arc de Triumph. Still keep it on the calendar but keep it almost as a parade to celebrate the season. Putting it at the end might also open up some more variable weather too for the fans!
Also only one change would be needed to make it more of a spectacle, straighten out the Nouvelle chicane and make that whole strip into a big DRS zone from the tunnel entry to Tabac.
The solution isnt smaller cars, mandated tyre changes or pit stops. That's absurd. The only fix is to remove Monaco altogether.
😂 go watch drive to survive. It's one race out of a season of 24 races. You don't like it you don't have to watch.
@@jeffsteyn7174and that is the problem. I am a decades long F1 fan and you need people to watch for the sport to thrive.
F1 without Monaco isn't F1 just reduce cars size quali will Always much important but AT least in 2006 Schumacher went from last to p5 Which now IS totally impossible
@@NoeNoe-fz6uq F1 without Monack is actually a better product. Monoco is boring and drain or resources, they is no benefit actually hosting the event.
@@iflgames3245 i understand but Monaco IS the prestige and also the races where very interesting before Monaco 1982 IS maybe the best gp ever, 1979 was a great edition as 1981 and 1982 and 1984 and the famous raining race where Senna almost won, 1987 the first win of Senna in Monaco, 1988 was interesting as well, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009... We've got so much beautiful races there but now not because of the size of those cars... But if F1 makes tinier cars Monaco will become great again
The last time the Monaco GP was exciting was probably in 1996.
The Monaco track is only a small part of the F1 problem. With only a couple three teams with a chance to win on any given weekend, all tracks are seriously boring.
The pundits have been saying Monaco is unsuitable for F1 since the '80's. No surprise there. Money is why it is still held.
Give points for 2 qualifying style shootouts (fastest to slowest top 10) and scrap the race. There isn’t enough room on the track for a race. This obviously is not cost effective when you think how much of a show it is and the investment made by sponsors and those attending. So unless they can try and widen the track at points then you’re left with dropping it from the calendar.
Apart from the obvious issue of the cars being too big , the tyres are USELESS!
You either make the tyres to last a whole race , so the drivers can actually drive , or , bring back refuelling.
The hard tyres weren't really made to last full distance , so the teams had to manage them which meant no one dared to go anywhere near full pace.
That isn't F1 , thats endurance !
They're not going to take it off because rich people are involved.
Ive been saying this for well over 3 years now. Change the track layout! Make an A, B, and C versions of the track.
They should try a knockout individual pursuit style weekend, I mean, the individual pursuit is the only bit of track cycling that is actually watchable.
I would rather lose Liberty Media than Monaco. That’s how much they have destroyed competition.
I've been watching Formula 1 since the 1980s and I've always found Monaco to be the most boring track of them all. In the past few years I've skipped watching the race when it's time for the Monaco race.
Here are some (tongue-in-cheek) ways to make the race interesting. 1) as suggested, 2 or more mandatory pit-stops 2) Drive Karts in an abbreviated race 3) Install sprinklers all around the track and turn them on for 5 minutes (to simulate moderate rain) once or twice during the race to give rain-meisters a chance to display their skills. 😁
I actually fell asleep during the race and the funny thing I noticed when I woke up nothing had changed 😂😂😂😂
It took me two different sessions to watch the race, it kept putting me to sleep
Last years race was great. Did you miss it?
F1 should have a tire 2/1 or 3/2 rule forcing piting and strategy would bring f1 a more action packed race no matter the venue
Give it a Formula 3 car with F1! drivers race : a special event. Cheaper more realistic in stead of on the crossing to a supermarket @ 300 kmh ...
Give the fans an open vote yes or no to keep on the calendar......... its that simple.
1 star race, 5 star nap not watching the parade
Was there in 1995 in the swimming pool stands- even then it was hard to stay awake.
3 hours wasted.
They should have them build smaller cars (a lot smaller) specifically for Monaco so that they can actually get past each other.....Giving the smaller cars a Boost Button (similar to ERS) with only a certain amount of boost for the whole race (no recharging) so they have to deploy it tactfully, this would help with overtaking since there's no actual straight on the circuit to use slip-streaming effectively.
OR.....
Just have Monaco be a Time Trial event, because the Qualifying was the best thing to watch this year !!
OR they could even try.....
Go back to their roots and have them race around Monaco in Go-Karts.
Something needs to change but they also need to keep the track on the rosta as it's soo iconic and historic to the sport Plus it's the most challenging track out there.....Which seperates the men from the boys !!
Monaco needs a long straight or a place easier enough to overtake.
Remove it from the schedule if they can't widen the race circuit
Mandate just supersoft tires, and at least two stops. Hopefully the tires wear out faster and you have to stop three times. Forget multiple compounds, just the softest and stickiest, maximum traction.
F1 is a waste.
Says you
A life long F1 fan I didn’t watch many races last season, watched the Monaco race, first of this season…. What is wrong with F1?
Even in 1992 F1 had out grown the track where Mansell after leading had a sensor indicate he had a puncture so he lifted and came out behind Senna. Even in the dominant Williams he was unable to ovsrtake.
Either get rid of the borefest or make it a 2-day timetrial.
Haven't watched F1 since V10's
The only way I could watch F1 now is if every 10 laps the driver pits and is faced with two options:
1) Drink a pint of Stella Artois (a time penalty due to necking a pint, plus the progressive deterioration in driving ability)
2) Get kicked in the nuts by a rival teams mechanic (a quick stop but with an agonising/distracting recovery)
Now that's worth a subscription
So instead of watching one driver dominate the season its Monaco that's the problem...
I totally agree. Every race is to see who comes 3rd. I do agree however that Monaco is boring as hell.
Not the same.
Saying that races like Monaco are F1's problem is avoiding the elephant in the room. F1's biggest problem are the few big teams dictating what the rules are for the so called sport. They are making it what it is for everybody. Apparently FIA is the boss, but it's not. You just have to see how the big ones always escape punishment when caught bending the rules or outright cheating. Also, they have always vetoed changes that would have seen their chances cut, like a REAL budget cap or rules like you have in Nascar, Indy or Formula E.
They have to make the track twice the width or stop racing in monaco.
F1 said goodbye to the original Nurburgring several years ago. It's time to say goodbye to Monaco too.
Nah, it's going nowhere.
They could be made to tow a trailer and have a roof rack. By putting more bags of cement in the trailer
that could be used as ballast
Time trial, 5 (possibly 6) cars on track at any one time setting off at 10 second intervals, 5 laps each, 1 warm-up, 3 flying, 1 cool down, slowest car over the 3 laps gets eliminated, then rinse, repeat until there are only 3 cars left & they get the podium spots. Limitation on tyres so they have to be used strategically as the winners will have to do up to 100 laps
It would be easy to prevent "tyre management" that is a blight on F1; make a rule that drivers have to lap within a certain percentage of their qualifying times. The only exception would be a wet qualifying/race. This would stop it dead.
Mandatory 3 pitstops in Monaco with all three compounds must be used on Dry conditions. Drivers will push all race trying to get as close as possible and pit strategy will become extremely important.
Smaller cars, 1 tire compound, No DRS. Or go to another track and call it Monaco.
If the Monaco GP is really as special as they say, they shouldn't be opposed to unprecedented changes to the rules there. They need to make it a spec race, everyone has the same car, and it's a car designed to provide good racing on that single track.
That would be F2
@@AlexWhitman-ep1sk I watched both and the F2 race was closer to a "race".
"Closer"
One simple solution to curb intentional slowing could be if the car behind has caught up to the car ahead by 1.5 seconds a lap or more then that lead car gets a blue flag.
The circuit needs to change. F1 cars are not going to get any smaller. Not that this is really the issue the same problems persists with F2 and F3 and they run smaller cars with the same issue. One thing they could easily do is change up portier and have a long run down princess grace avenue, a hair pin and back again allowing the cars to build some serious speed before hitting the tunnel. How awesome would that be? Having the cars jet down that single lane avenue building to full speed before opening DRS at portier and running DRS through the tunnel?
The chicanes Could be opened up as well. Rather than being an opportunity to overtake the functionally turn the track into a single lane section preventing cars from running side by side.
I don't want to see monaco go away but the track needs to be modernized. Considering how little F1 gets from the event the principality owes it to the sport to invest heavily in updating the circuit.
Bring back in-race refuelling.
By doing this, you can make the cars smaller and more agile, make more durable tyres to discourage tyre management, and increase the strategic edge as it would change the nature of pit stops.
Maybe if they did a time trial kind of thing like in rally. Let cars go out every 20-30 secs and have them go for 3 laps and pick the best time. Maybe let a few cars out at a time. Like an extended qualify or something like that. Maybe have them go out 2 or 3 times
Cut the tire width in half for this race along with narrower wings. It will increase tire wear, increase passing space and put more focus on the driver’s ability to manage tires, and get the most out of the car.
Should've been relegated to a special-event-only circuit long time ago. Like some kind of a All Star game or whatever but for F1. That last Monaco race was an absolute snooze fest imo, even if I'm happy for the winner.
My friend actually did fall asleep on the couch on Sunday while the race was on
Get rid of the Nouvelle chicane, a straight run down to Tabac from the Tunnel with DRS.
You get rid of the trees on that section of road making it a double boulevard, modified Tabac with a crash run off area.
There we have it a genuine overtaking spot.
Would it be possible to move the team garages and/or pitlane onto barges in the bay, like the Redbull "Energy station" that gets assembled there every year? Then you can widen the straights that go past pitlane? Or where the chicane is, have a sharp left that goes straight out into the marina, floating on barges. Hairpin at the end of it which brings the cars back to the chicane. Have that hairpin wide on both entry and exit
The cars are the problem, too big.
Monaco is unique because there isn’t another track where the consequences for the slightest mistake completely destroys your race.
I understand the criticism, the build up and qualifying are far more interesting than the race in most cases, but the early red flag did it for this weekend, it pretty much took all strategy out of it.
Making only the softest tyre available for Monaco would be interesting, that could force 3 pit stops in a race.
Monaco GP also showed that changing anything on your car during red flag needs to go. If car is not safe to drive, then it just simply won't start. If the wing is broken, you start from the pits, if you got a puncture on the way, starting from pits.
I have watched F1 for many years, I used to love the Monaco! on sunday I fell asleep! I'm sorry it's over time for a change., as it stands is no longer any use, I think it's the end for Monaco
Watching modern F1 in Monaco is like watching a speed boat race... down a creek.
It would be easy to fix a better race. If the cars turned left ahead of Portier and rounded the fountain there they could go all the way up Avenue Princess Grace and have a hairpin curve close to the fountain Princess Grace and then go back the same way straight into the tunnel. That would provide two massive DRS straights and make setup of the cars a nightmare. Then it could be a proper race
I have never been so bored in my life that was the disgusting race and the drivers in the team should be ashamed. This is not what Formula One is who can drive the slowest well, I’m astounded
Agree with your analysis and suggestions. Most critical, the circuit must be modified to fit in a passing zone. Or make Monaco the locale for introducing the new cars - including a Qualifying-like Session - at the beginning of each season?
I feel like Monaco just highlights the issue more than every other track. Something is wrong with the cars and regulations, most races are incredibly boring. Cars are unable to follow each other closely enough to feel engaging. It hardly ever feels like drivers are dueling... It's usually that 1 car is a second faster than the other, so you just wait for a few corners or laps until they are able to pass on a straight or brake. Getting rid of this track, or even changing the circuit will only work as a bandaid.
Perhaps they should use special cars just for Monaco. Perhaps put the drivers in shifter carts. (I'm being serious here.) F1 drivers in shifter carts around Monaco would be an amazingly exciting spectacle!
Formula One has been boring for decades, and not just Monaco. Yet still they arrogantly think that they are the best in the world. You should have seen the Indy 500 on the same day. Two passes for the lead on the last lap at 220 miles per hour. I can't recall a pass for the lead in any F1 race in recent memory. Formula One TV pictures usually show a battle for 7th place...
They should make it a show case race at start of the season with points just for a free for all quaifying session, 1.5 hours of open qualifying with a load of tyre and unlimited laps. But its not just Monoco that the problem there are a list of races these days where it is there are no passing spots or at best 1-2 half chance spots. Too many street circuits shoe horned into the calander, these days the money so big, they should only award long term contracts to F1 build circuits for MODERN F1 cars and make every race a race.
The car owner who spent the most money won the Monaco joke of a race. Won in time trial to on the track. Big bucks spent on the best people, facilities and equipment, worked like a charm. Winning and bragging rights.for a year is everything
Indy cars should be the car of choice in Monaco
Perhaps have the drivers collect coins and powerups as they go round with the option to throw out a limited number of banana skins and stuff.
There only 2 things that can save the Monaco GP.
1: doing this race stop the rule that allows the teams to change tires during a red flag
2: for this race only, make a rule that says it’s mandatory to use 3 compounds during the race so it forces the teams to have a minimum of 2 pit stops
No need for special Monaco rules. Just limit tyres to a maximum of 75% of the full race distance on any one set.
This can be solved easily: make cars stop twice mandatory for different tires and this venue could actually produce an exiting race.
It’s not the fact the circuit is necessarily bad, it’s the fact the cars are absolutely massive, throw 20 Ford F150’s on the circuit and it would be the same size, also F1 needs to bring back refueling, not having refueling has been a bane in F1’s strategy issues for years
Take out the chicane after the tunnel. Add DRS zone. Go back to 3 litre normally aspirated engines!
Only allow racing on soft tires (and wets/inters) at Monaco. Then what happened this past weekend wouldn't matter, as they would still need to pit... because there is no way a soft is making it the entire race.
For Monaco, the cars should be required to utilize the softest tyres only. After 78 laps, each team will need at least 2 or 3 stops.
Indeed. Compare and contrast with the wildly exciting Indianapolis 500 race, even though it was delayed for four hours. In both cases, I long for the old times, when there were very few rules about what kind of propulsion and aero packages you could bring to the tracks. Flying cars would, for example, definitely be able to pass in Monaco, as long as they avoided the tunnel roof. More pit stops, and a race dominated by rubber science, don't appeal. The changes need to permit some form of overtaking, or the on-track result will remain a parade.
