Welcome to Peterson Family Farm. On this UA-cam channel, we plan to show viewers what happens on a real life family farm in Kansas. From working with animals, to planting seeds, to harvesting grain, to putting up hay, to fixing equipment, you'll get to see what farming is like! Our farm is a 5th generation farm started in 1882 by our great great grandparents. We grow wheat, corn, soybeans, milo, sunflowers, and forages and we feed about 1,000 head of cattle. To learn more about it, watch our channel intro video here: • Welcome to Our New You...

Hi Peterson Family! We are a family farm in central Iowa and we got our first snow storm of the year as well! We got a few inches of snow as well as -20 degree weather! 🥶 We are mainly crop farmers but we do have some livestock. It can be a challenge to keep the waterers thawed out! Thank-you for sharing a little bit of your Christmas with us! Looking forward to more videos!

I’ve lived in Michigan all of my 65 years and the only thing to say about being colder then someone else is, the colder it is the faster you die. Keep bundled up.

Temp variations are always fun! We had 40's in NE NY a few weeks ago. Just in time to back the hay trailer to the barn. Only hub deep though! Just warm enough to wash off everything before the 10 degree weather started.

It's been about 15 to 20 degrees here in Michigan for a week now . Our cows are out on corn stalks now as well . We have 3 inches of snow and it's very windy here . I've been working outside in that weather tending to cattle and cleaning ditches with our excavator. A guy has to layer up and try not to sweat. It's not too bad after a while you get used to the cold being born and raised in southern Michigan I'm used to snow and cold the last few years haven't been that cold or snowy. This year I think we have had maybe 6 inches of snow normally by now we would have had a couple of feet. Great video keep up the good work!

I see your farm is next to the Missouri Pacific right of way at the Hallville stop. Are some of your fence placements, the remains of the cattle loading pens at Hallville? You have rich Swedish history in your area. Could you do a quick piece on the Assaria, Bridgeport, Lindsborg area.

Loved seeing a snippet of your family Christmas and the play! Brighton really stole the show playing Jesus! The heavier the rig, the better for ridding dead trees! A new owner of a house next door took his front end loader excavator and knocked down the all the trees surrounding his small house even though none had died. I hated to see that happen because they provided shade in the summer for both the house he'd bought and my yard. He planned to rent out the house and be the landlord. He even tried to get me to take out my lilac bushes which were the border between his property and mine. I told him no as they too helped shade my yard as the sun in summer dries my lawn very fast. Last summer it was 118, 115, 111 in one week and other days over 100 for quite awhile. Love to see how happy your cows seemed with what they were eating in the cold weather you had.

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting.
You new-used payloader is a nice one. Lots of power there. You will find a lot of use for that piece of equipment.
Temp’s here in Iowa go up and down also. One day seven above and two days later it is in the high 30’s. Wow. Hard to change with the temp changes.
Remember opening up water sources for cattle myself years ago. A necessary check each morning when it gets cold. Years ago we had a old fashion water tank heater that we feed corn cobs for fuel. There are some memories. Wow.
Nice to hear all of you singing Christmas carols together. What Christmas is all about. Thanks for that refreshing event.
About it for now I guess. You all take care and be careful. May god watch over all of you. Thanks for everything.
    The Iowa farm boy.

A cold wind can end your day early, while a calm day is a productive day. Excellent farm dog coverage!

Cold is relative :) Here in southern Indiana, the weather is more variable than most places I've been, which suits me just fine. However, a friend and part-time neighbor was shivering while wearing jeans and a coat at 75F in July. He sort-of laughed when I sent him a picture of my dashboard thermometer while in his driveway the next March where it was -19F. It's 30F here today, expecting to be 20F tomorrow mid-day and 6F tomorrow night, but it was 60F two or three days ago, and they're projecting 50F or so in a couple of days. I've got some pictures I shot several years ago now while standing outside in jeans and a t-shirt at -30F in an area where I don't think the wind can stop blowing. The leeward side of my Mom's house had snow drifts over six feet deep, where the windward side had grass blades poking through a very thin coating of powder :) Plenty of built-in insulation and extremely high blood pressure had at least one day where they came in handy :)

@Noah What gets most newcomers here is the variability in our weather, especially when we get people in from either coast where the seawater tends to average out the changes. This past summer was one prime example where we got 10.5" of rain in 90 minutes one night and a farmer friend 50 miles east of here was still in drought conditions. While it isn't often colder than -20F here, it happens, as does being above 100F, sometimes only about a month apart. I can't say anything about Kansas as I've only been in that state for about four hours while driving across the country, but most people I've talked to here that come from elsewhere have noted the very high variable weather here where we can have highs during the summer that vary by over 40F in the same week. I do have to admit that most of my non-Hoosier friends are from one coast or the other, so they, especially the Californians, have a very disproportionate view of how much change in the daily weather is too much :)

Hello Peterson Brothers! Doesn’t it touch your hearts when the cattle come to your voice? We are publishing a video of another cattle drive tonight! We got 2 inches of snow in northeast Kansas! It was great to see grandpa with the precious little one! Also, thank you for letting us in on a little of your Christmas! Blessings to all of you in 2022!
