What a humble man, for having won the Nobel prize and being president of Royal society. The key takeaway here I think is to never give up following your dreams!

What a great human being this man is. He pursued knowledge to really learn. He did have one important advantage in having a mind prepared to learn about nature together with the necessary discipline to stay the course from a tender age. I wish that there’s a lot more people like him all around the world!

Nice one. We had the honour to shoot an interview with him last week at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge (we just published the first part). We were hoping for an old-style Royal Society room, but actually the MRC turned out to be an excellent location. Apart from his scientific achievements he is really a pleasant person to talk to.

Hope you still speak Tamil fluently. I did listen to BBC Desert Island Discs - (Spotify) So thrilled that you included Carnatic music. Hope your son is prospering in Cello music explorations. Best wishes,

M K Stalin felicitated Nobel Laureate Venkataraman Ramakrishnan. Stalin hosted a grand ceremony on the scale of celebrating Ilaya Raja, Leonel, or a politician like Velu because he had never celebrated a Nobel Laureate. Nevertheless, he wanted to appreciate science in a way never attempted in Tamil Nadu by anybody or the more knowledgeable, English-speaking J Jayalalitha.
How did Venkataraman Ramakrishnan feel when a great and popular politician whose father is Kalainar or an artist in literature or litterateur par excellence felicitated him? What was the atmosphere like? What was it like being in the august and imposing presence of one of the walking colossi of Tamil Nadu politics ever since the Dravidian revolution? Was it a proud and glorious moment when a great litterateur par excellence's son himself felicitated him? How would the Hindu newspaper describe such an electrifying moment and atmosphere? Can the Hindu newspaper tell us what hung in the air? Interestingly and intriguingly, what was the audience like? What was it like being at the center of attraction of such a unique audience who were in awe of a scientist even though they have known and seen only celebrities like Illaya Raja, Lionel, or politician Velu?
    Was it a God's Gift?

India doesn't have a good base in pure sciences unlike in engineering or medicine. Students taking up B.Sc are looked down upon and discouraged. Not to mention that only 0.6% of the GDP is spent on education/research.

During his Rajya Sabha TV the interviewer used the word white while referring to the earlier heads of the Royal Society. Surely poor understanding of global agenda. To use the word white for race is erroneous. There is no white race. The Mongol race (the pure Mongols of Mongolia) can be lighter than many Europeans. The narrator should have used the word non-European. Most Indians belong to the Aryan Race and this race without doubt is indigenous to the northwestern region of the Indian
subcontinent and Central Asia. A true Aryan does not look up or look down on anyone. Most Europeans are also Aryans. Sanskrit-Avestan is the mother of most European languages. Color can change due to climate. Southern Europeans (though pure Aryans) are dark like the Punjabis who are also Aryans. Punjab also has a harsh climate. I am a Dogra from Jammu, many Jammu people are pretty light. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is also a pure Aryan and is married to a fine lady (Jewish) of the Semitic Race. Indians by large are not racist but are proud to belong to the Aryan Race.
