28....college drop out... still living with my parents, never married; I've taken over my disabled dads lawn mowing business for years and never set any goals for myself. I've been severely depressed for half a year now, thinking how it all could've been better if i hadn't been avoidant and indecisive. I'm convinced my life is over. I want to pursue something in music but don't have the skills. Also might want to be a photographer but don't know where to start. Desperately want to travel but don't have the finances. Don't do what i did.
Please see a therapist. You are worthy to have a wonderful life. Take an adult class. Do something you enjoy. Get out and walk with a group. Take pictures go to exibitions.. life is about living. The first times it'll be more difficult to do.. but it will get easier.
I have lost interest in my hobbies, I have nothing I'm passionate about anymore, and I have no clue what to do anymore. I'm 26 and I have spent the last 4 years basically in my room doing nothing productive. I've hit a point where I don't want to get better because I'm just getting older and further behind in life. I'll be dead before I'm 30.
Don’t say that bout you man. Stay strong. Keep fighting for your ultimate dreams and goals in life. You can do it. You are not alone in this fight bro!
30 is a wonderful age to rediscover yourself. Get out of your room.. volunteer at a shelter or habitat for humanity. By giving you will find a new fulfillment and joy you didn't know.
@@mikelasjo6507 oh ok. Let me go to the job store and pick one up. You realize capitalism works because some people have low paying jobs right? Not everyone can win in this game. You just proved my point
@@catherinew.9658 I worked fast food in college so I can empathize with low paying jobs. I got a degree in a competitive job field and quickly found a liveable wage paying job. Get a college degree, get an apprenticeship, go to a trade school, go to the military, open a business etc etc. Opportunities are available for people willing to work. Thanks for the comment. I do hope that you are talking with someone. Treatment resistant MDD often responds well to TMS or even ECT. Sounds scary, but I have seen it work wonders on many people. We do hope that you will continue to seek help! -- Dr. B
It may be good to qualify that your first 100 tries at something will suck in HINDSIGHT if what you're trying is something you are passionate about. Especially for those that want to produce art, you shouldn't put anything out at all if you don't perceive SOME value in it (avoiding perfectionism of course).
I spend most of the day trying to figure out the direction I need to take for the rest of my life, that I lost sight of what I need to do to even come close to figuring that out...... DOING..... Thanks guys, subscribed.
The unnecessary snide remark from the left guy about the other, 'watching too much TV' interrupted the flow. A) The point his TV watching references yield, are with relevanceto that which contributes to the topic (B) "Watching" is what you're relying on people to do by posting this video and (C) Unlike today's diverse media resources most rely on to exist, his/my generation had the digital media tools exclusively of TV or movies to take away from. Rude brat!
Thanks for the comment, though I believe you may have missed the irony... Dr. Marshall (the guy on the right) actually watches very little TV, so the guy on the left (the "Rude Brat", me) was joking with him about that. We do that pretty often on the podcast.
It IS possible to overcome FTL! I'm living proof; I moved out of my parents' (RIP to both) house at the age of 43 (it's never too late, either). With each passing year, it became easier. Just remain employed (if you already are; if you don't, by all means, get a job, and keep it!) and keep earning and saving your money. I've been steadily employed for 35 years, and I'm 59 years old now.
Graduated college with a professional degree. Have full time salary job. I don’t make 200,000 dollars a year so that means financially I’m stuck, because the inflation is insane and tons of people are moving here! The restrictive zoning codes can’t keep up with the demand. Damn my job is to make these buildings! They take like three years from drawing board to ready to live in.

Don't say that! Keep your head up, and empower yourself. The more you do it, the better you'll feel
In the beginning he mentioned "The Defining Decade" by Meg Jay.
I have the book but I’m now 33 haven’t read it yet. Do you think it’s worth reading still? I mean since it’s about the 20s
So what about all the careers that don't pay enough? This comes across as boomer generation privilege
Thank you for saying this! People ignore this reality.
It's a valid question however one would counter with the obvious "find a better paying job"

Very nice talk, I enjoyed listening
I have treatment resistant MDD and I will not live past 42. It is my promise to myself.

Venkatesh Rao has hinted that TV is an anti-depressent, and to get off it you have to get fixed up first.
