Great video Gabriel - it's great hearing your experience and perspective from making this change. Single purpose devices like the ones you've adopted have definitely made a big comeback, and I think it's for the very reasons you've outlined here. It's important to find ways to take back your attention and find strategies to be intentional in the smart world.
I cant belive you have such few subscribers and such top tier content and production quality. Please make more of this life advice and philosophical type content, I love the introspection, and it is lovely having those kinds of reflective serence spaces on UA-cam. Sending admiration all the way from Aus. :)
Thank you, I really appreciate it! I'm glad you enjoyed it and it's a big confidence boost seeing something so positive on a slightly different piece of content for me!
Awesome video mate. Been feeling the weight of social media on my day-to-day for a few months. I always use “but I want/need to post on instagram for my business” as an excuse to keep it all. But of course - because I get sucked in to the useless content on social media, my good intentions quickly disappear, and I don’t have enough time to make the content I actually want to make, and instead just feel the comparison and anxiety building up. I don’t feel like I have the time or energy to create the way I want to … and yet I manage to find 2-4 hours a day to spend on my phone scrolling aimlessly. Going to implement your tips today, be strict with myself, and see how it goes.
This is so real....and in a world of self-promotion, this rhetoric of the hustle to build a 'personal brand' (that it is what will save you and take you out of the rat race) I am caught in this loop too. Going to watch the rest of the video and see what advice he gives!!
Thank you! Ahh can totally identify with my old habits, the feed and the algorithm pulling a fast one as per ususal. But you've got this, good luck and let me know how you get on!!
Appreciate the video and sharing your experience! While watching it I uninstalled my one phone doomscrolling app. I like your idea of keeping the viewing of social media to those times I sit down at my actual computer. Brings back the old days of dialup, when going online was a deliberate thing, and not always-on. I also love the idea of having separate dedicated items for things, like the pocket gaming device (thankfully I still have my DS) and a journal. I need to get some kind of combination notepad sleeve and pen holder because I tend to lose pens faster than I can buy them whenever I try to keep a notepad and pen on me.
Yes I can, coming soon! Going to break down journalling for creativity and mental health and how it helps me on a day to day basis and how the notebook is setup to support that!
I did all this as soon as i was forced to swap to a smart phone when 3g finally went away in 2022. (It was smart phone or numpad texting and hell no to numpad texting) I went into it as phone, text, photos, and reading. I already had a handheld emulator because it's a much more pleasant way to emulate Pokemon than sitting at my computer. I watch UA-cam and listen to podcasts thru browser, but my whole goal was to not add complexity to my digital back up routine, so using the browser reaches that goal through tab and bookmark syncing. All this said, I think more people need to try these techniques focusing mainly on hopping off of social media more and for much longer periods of time. If that means reading on your phone instead of scrolling, that's fine. It's more about moving away from the algorithms meant to hook us and eat our time than not using your phone as the tool it is. (I personally think having a phone and a Kindle is silly, but to each their own.)
wow interesting, thanks for sharing! haha I personally couldn't live without my kindle, I like the way it really reinforces the barrier between reading and getting sucked into anything on my phone, but agree on everything else
Good ideas shared here - I learned everything I know about digital minimalism from Marie Kondo. I strongly recommend reading her book if you haven't already, shes more human than Cal Newport
As someone who spends far too much time scrolling social media, this video is very inspiring. Keep up good work dude
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

Thank you for the kind comment and great perspective! It always feels great to be more present

Can you do follow up video of the notebook setup that you have? This was great video!

Loved your approach - really made me think.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

interesting! I will add it to the reading list!
Surely you can’t convert the basement to a bedroom? It has no window
I'm not 100% sure what that means, but I'll try and take it onboard
@@gabrielbailey802 I mean you can’t legally rent a room as a bedroom if it doesn’t have a window.
The ultimate digital minimalist does not upload them videos on UA-cam 😉
ahah you got me!
