Loved every second of these histories! And the second camera got me drunk without drinking! Thank you for highlighting where we can find more of our community history ❤
loved it, discovered so many things !! i'm French so i'm sad u didn't talk about Bambi (famous Le Carousel's drag artist) or Les Gazolines, or maybe Les Mirabelles, which were some theatrical and political drag activists in the 1970's in France. Also, i'd loved to hear u talking about camp, its origins (Susan Sonntag's Notes On Camp, its influence on drag culture...) but y'all made such an interesting presentation !! it was soooooooooo cool !! loved it ❤️❤️ PS : Miss Malice is so funny ! love to see her PS 2 : Love u Sasha, i'm a huge fan, so glad to see u perform in March in Paris !!! ✨❤️
Ahh, yes!!!! So much to cover! We did briefly mention Le Carousel and Coccinelle in Part 1, but would have been so great to talk about Bambi and Les Mirabelles too!! So glad you watched and enjoyed ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great video! I worked at Lee's Mardi Gras , Lee G Brewster's 'boutique' and mail-order business, for 2 years when I first moved to the NYC in the late 80's. Lee was 'retired' as a performer at that point, but he had some amazing stories!
I've always loved that, in English theatre, the ultimate career high often said to have played "The Dane, The Thane and The Dame". Those are the roles of Hamlet, Macbeth and Mother Goose. Once you have achieved those roles, which are usually reserved for the best actors (used gender neutrally), you're 'a true thespian'. There's a version for traditionally female roles but I cannot recall them, other than Lady Macbeth. It's not uncommon for casting to be gender non-specific in theatres nowadays. Talent is the important factor. 🖤
drop the bibliography ! also i interned at the ArQuives - canada's 2slgbtq archives --> definitely fraught with the drama, beauty, and many open sources!
Sasha IS my absolute crush. Add Miss Malice? Be still my beating heart! Beauty, brains, & queer history with cocktails? 🫠 The gorgeous, intellectual serotonin boost our souls need and absolutely DEMAND.
I missed a mention to the 70’s Radical Faeries as a response to counterculture in the 60’s and 70’s through the fringe of drugs, community, and nonconformity. Blessings to you both ❤
This was such an amazing deep dive in a lot of queer history I didn't know much about outside of the ballroom scene. A lot of which I wasn't taught in school. I'd love another one of these really diving into the origins and the journey of said scene 🙇
I have done my own research and joined a drag amino to be more involved and break ignorance surrounding drag and the homosexual community. Thanks for the history and I’ll continue to do research and share on my amino
I want this weekly! Who's with me? If kids can get an appropriate story hour then why cant drunk gays like me? *hikup* I would drink along to hourS of this shit who needs ruplz guess dress anygay? More please!
Obviously drag has such a rich and long history and it’s hard to mention everything but systems like CONTINENTAL not even getting a blimp of a mention in this is kinda insane. I mean it’s literally the system that was created in response to the negligence of trans women in the drag and pageant world, and turned into what is arguably the most prestigious coveted title in all of drag pageantry. All love and respect of course! But continental could literally be talked about for hours!!!
I'd listen to a whole podcast of this history. What a fun history lesson!
So much vocal fry in one video, and I love it haha
Hot girl shit!
NOT "I'll say 'dyke' so you don't get cancelled again" ☠☠☠☠☠☠☠☠

Thank you for mentioning ArQuives. I was wondering if a resource like this existed! Drag: bringing people together!
Murray Hill in the HBO series Somebody Somewhere was phenomenal!
Sasha IS my absolute crush. Add Miss Malice? Be still my beating heart! Beauty, brains, & queer history with cocktails? 🫠 The gorgeous, intellectual serotonin boost our souls need and absolutely DEMAND.
I love every minute of Part 1 and 2! Thank you, Sasha and Miss Malice, for teaching me soooo much!

I love hearing about this history. Thank u for sharing.
Fun fact -James Cagney started out as a female impersonator in vaudeville.
I would pay endless money to see Sasha do a lipsync to Talking About a Revolution by Tracy Chapman. It would be amazing to see what she could do.
Love this!!!
That was so fun and important ❤️
I can’t believe Dame Edna didn’t get a mention. She was RuPaul before RuPaul
This is awesome!!!

Was it intentional that the Murray Hill section of the video is labeled "Marie Hill," or was that like some sort of AI voice to text error?
💝💝💝
“Threatened?”
Go betch!
Thank you for this 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
Why was her world tour cancelled?
Not cancelled! Moved to March ‘24

You should probably mention that you got inspired to do this video by Justin Vivian Bond. And include them in your history lesson?
