- I am sorry for the delay in videos but we had a unfortunate break in by a trusted coworker caught on camera that the cops could not do anything about. On the bright side we were able to relocate and get some major progress done and safely moved on from this horrible experience. On my van build, I first installed a really good alarm system. No one can touch it without a warning. If they continue its a horn circus. Moreover, I put motion detector lights on the sides and rear. Whenever anyone comes near my van the whole thing lights up. I am talking about approximately one foot long ones from Amazon that have a solar panel built in. I mounted them with 3M wide tape on the back and Butyl tape all around; therefore, no screws/holes and they are stuck on really good, i.e., hard to get off. Finally, I installed solar powered motion detector lights on the building next to my van and put up fake cameras all over with signs that area is monitored by cameras. Protection first ... build second. Laslty, it's almost always someone you know.
I can't stand a thief. Unfortunately there is probably little you can do to stop them. 6000$ is a lot of money to watch walk away, but I'm glad y'all are still going forward with your build

Sorry to hear about the break in. But glad it's not breaking your spirit. I really appreciate your series. No one has really done a step van in detail before and since I want to convert one myself, this is very helpful. Keep up the great work.

Ok, look up how to place an electrical shock system on Ur door handles for those that like to break in. I'll try to find video for U later, but a guy on UA-cam does this for his work van. Works good, can be used in tandem with truck alarm. :). Shock the crap out of ppl trying to real in Ur van.
Secondly, think about placing cable wire , mounted on steel frame around Ur windows, so U can still get light in, but keep out bodies from entering windows.
Three, get an electronic magnet lock on Ur front sliding door, like what one of the other guys with a step van does. Can be turned on and off with remote. Holds at 700 lbs.
I'm sure there's some other things you could do like paint bombs, stink bombs, etc. Make the thieves pay with pain. An instant hot steam connected to alarm and door could give a nice burn on their skin. :).

Any plans on a full finished tour of the srepvan build....I was thinking the same thing as thr person below that said their really isn't step by step build series on a stepvan, was glad to see it done here, even if it was a bit sped up at the near end. About your electrical grid, have you you thought about (if it's not already...it wasn't mentioned) wiring your batteries to the alternator so that when you drive it will charge from that as well? Just a suggestion, I love what I see from the build already, hoping for another video of a tour maybe
glad to see you beefed up the security. windows are a bad idea. where did you get that lock mechanism for the front door (next to the starter batteries)? nice shower! nice kitchen! looks great!

So my father is currently living in the van in Florida, as soon as he comes back I plan on doing a updated video.

Hi! I'm curious...did you finish the project? I've been looking at stepvans and I'd like to see how this turned out!
Project is finished, currently being lived in for its second winter season in Florida. Will be able to capture some updates in May when it comes back up north!

That's ridiculous. Can the police legally refuse to follow through on charging a criminal if they already know who did it? If they DO have that discretion, it seems ripe for abuse. If they happen to not like you for some reason, they could just allow you to be robbed, maybe even killed. Scary.
