  • 👉 Learn how to solve multi-step linear inequalities having parenthesis. An inequality is a statement in which one value is not equal to the other value. An inequality is linear when the highest exponent in its variable(s) is 1. (i.e. there is no exponent in its variable(s)). A multi-step linear inequality is an inequality in which multiple steps of operations are to be performed to obtain the solution(s).
To solve a linear inequality having parenthesis, we first use distribution property to remove the parenthesis. Next, we use inverse operations (addition/subtraction) to combine like terms and then, we also use inverse operations (multiplication/division) to isolate the variable. (recall that multiplication/division with a negative number changes the orientation of the inequality sign).

I literally spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to solve a simple problem like the one shown in this video. I have better knowledge now thank you!!

Thank you!! This helped me and my son with his homeschool math. We are going to watch them all as they match up with his assignments as this helps make things way more clear! I loved seeing the problem solved two ways side by side as well.

He helped me understand this and it was easy to understand because I already have basic knowledge of this, but i am thankful he wasn't my math teacher in class. He talks super fast and made me feel watching that id hate to have to ask a question in his class. lol.

ahh sorry to hear that, yes at times I talk fast, depends if the video I am making is introductory or a review, also I love answering questions from students

So to the question your student asked but don’t think you understood, why did you multiply by 4 and not the reciprocal of 4 over 3? I had the same question. When do you multiply by the reciprocal and when do you just multiply by the denominator. Or am I missing something

I'm guessing you teach high school because I hear your students giving you a lot of shit in your videos. lol. I'll be honest I had this same mentality as a student in high school--- But now I am a mom, military spouse, and 30yr old adult re-entering college.... And I just wanted to say that your videos have helped me GREATLY in completing homework and preparing for tests. I just wanted you to know that since I can imagine you feel underappreciated by your students from time to time. ;) K-12 Teachers don't make enough for the crap they have to put up with.

    One question I have:
    Let's say you have this problem ..... 3/4 (6k+-3) > 4/5 (3k+2)
You said something about NOT distributing among multiplication.... So that means in THIS problem above, I WOULD NOT multiply the whole thing by 20? I would instead multiply the left side by 4 and the right side by 5? Is that correct? Or am I wrong and you indeed multiply the whole thing by 20?
