I was at this game, I am a member od te Brush Arcs Marching Band. We were blown away by this band and were shocked when we learned about George Park's death. Our condolences go out to the Parks family and the UMASS marching band
My 16th birthday was the same day as this amazing director left this earth. I may not have been under his tutelage but i see the impact and effect that he has had on these young people and alumni alike. May he rest in paradise
God Bless You, George! You may be gone, but will NEVER be forgotten! I am personally grateful to have had the prviledge of marching on the same field with George nearly 30 years ago, and was forever inspired by his energy, enthusiam, and love of music and performance. Thank you, bigticket233, for sharing this most poignant video of George's "final curtain"-- "His way" was unforgettably awesome!
Thank you again for posting this. I can't believe it's been a year. This is only the second time I've muscled my way through it, and even though I'm watching it from a different angle, I see it as I was on the field. We miss him every day. Most importantly, thank you so much for all of your support. We cannot thank you enough. With Pride, Rachael UMMB '08-current
I am the founding president of KKP at UMASS and a graduate of 1971. I was driving up to Ann Arbor to meet Dr. Jenkins and George for lunch when Dr. Jenkins called me to tell me about George's passing. I almost ran off the road when I heard. I w as on the phone with him earlier in the week for over an hour talking about the band and going to UM and returning to where it all began. George and I started out as enemies because I knew he was going to convert the band from high step to drum and bugle corps and I was violently opposed to that. However he won me and numerous other alums over and we became great friends. In reality change was a good thing. My only regret is that I didn't have a chance to ma rich under him. There are very few people that I have met in my 67 years on this earth that have had the impact on my life that George and Dr. Jenkins have had. But to paraphrase a song if there's marching band in heaven than heaven has a helluva band.
any one else get the shivers when they sang
"...the end is near and so i face the final curtain
i've lived a life thats full.."?
